GT = I Am The Anchor

I've been seeing a lot of threads based around the upcoming vidmasters and Recon armor, and I'm sorry to add another one but I feel like I have different thoughts than the majority.

When IWHBYD was found, within 48 hours Hayabusa became a common sight. When the new achievements were added, katanas became more easily attained.

Many think that once ODST is released, Recon will be multiple times in every lobby and every game until it become old really fast.

I wouldn't be so fast to jump to that conclusion.

The requirements to get Recon are already more challenging than those to get Hayabusa and Security/Katana.

As the game stands, one can easily log onto the internet and find instructions to find all of the skulls. Also, with 1750 achievements, Security is something one will gain over repeated play.

Recon differs in this respect.

So far the known vidmaster achievements are:

Lightswitch
Brainpan
7 on 7
Annual

Out of the 4, Lightswitch is the only one that can be attained by repeated play, and anyone who spends enough time in one playlist will get it.

Out of the 4 Brainpan is the only one that requires the player to collect something, much like the Hayabusa requirements.

7 on 7 requires the player to sit down on a specific date and get 7 exp in a playlist on that given date, requiring timing and availability. Bungie was nice enough add a playlist in on these dates to help people out.

For Annual, the player needs to organize a group of 3 other players (which can be tough for some people), and sit down for a few hours and complete a campaign mission with ridiculous rules.

I know everyone already knows that information, but what I'm trying to say is that the vidmasters vary so much in what they require:

Lightswitch = Perserverance
Brainpan = Searching & Collecting
7 on 7 = Timing & Availability
Annual = Organization & Patience

We also have no idea what the next 3 are going to be. Perhaps one of them is to get all 1750 achievement points on ODST. Who knows? But I am, in fact, willing to at least two of them will have nothing in common with the above mentioned.

I think the variety of the vidmasters and the drastic difficulty changes to attain them are intentional, so it's not as easy as googling "Halo 3 vidmasters guide" and getting them all in a day.

The point I want to make is that, I don't think we will be seeing numerous players suited up in Recon the day ODST drops. It may take weeks or months before a decent sized group of people unlock it for it to be noticeable on a large scale.

So before you jump to conclusions about the predicted "overuse of Recon", take consideration that the unknown vidmasters could require almost anything and may take more time to complete than initially thought.

I died once...I respawned 5 seconds later, seeking revenge!!!

I think the new vidmasters are going to be even harder them those so I believe your right when saying won't spread like wild fire. In a few months after the release however, it'll be a different story

I believe I heard Annual was the hardest.

Maybe, I don't know. I just see this trend where the individual player has to put in work to get something that isn't even worth any points, and for each one, a different approach is required. A lot different than standing on the light bridge while your friend jumps through some rings for you.

This is true, but I did say they have varied in difficulty so far. I'm concentrating more on the variety of how they are approached, and how that opens up many possibilities for the ones we don't know yet.

I hope that when odst releases they have another "secretive armor" the irony would have me laughing for days. All the kiddies would say yaaaaahhh I haz me recon then Bungie would pull out 'armor X' to reward gamers that go the extra mile. That would be EPIC

Mythical Group

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

Well, they better be hard. Because annual was too easy, and I'm a noob. :)

  • 06.16.2009 6:19 PM PDT

yeah I beat it solo legendary with the iron skull on, first try in less than 30 minutes. It should have been LASO at least

wasnt there a statistic for how many people had the annual acheivment? i think it was only like 5% of the Halo 3 population. I'm in that 5%, though i wont wear the recon head or shoulders, just the body.

How so? It could be a Firefight character exclusive to Bungie Employees....

  • 06.16.2009 7:07 PM PDT

True, true. But trust me, the sad sad day will come when people call recon 'noob' armor.

It wouldn't surprise me, however you have to keep in mind how large of a game Halo 3 is. There are plenty of second accounters that ignore achievements, and they make up a rather large population of Halo 3. So only using main accounts of people who actually play Halo 3, I'll place it closer to 50%.

Alright, I'd rather this stay on topic or die.

I don't really care how easy it is to get brainpan, or if a new armor exists, the point of this topic was to explore the intentional variety of the vidmaster achievements, and it's impact on how many people will actually unlock recon at the same time.

In my opinion, the appearance of recon in matchmaking will be a gradual incline over the months following the release of ODST, not an instant spike.

  • 06.16.2009 7:12 PM PDT

You just got Shakespeared!

I actually got annual,lightswitch and 7 0n 7, within 8days lol.

Really, you think that people will call it noob armor? you need two buy 2 games and be really good at them to get this armor so I don't ever think it will be "noob" armor, mabye not as cool/rare but definitly not noob armor.

I didnt even like the Hayabusa armor. and recon isn't that awesome. I like security or the MK IV as my top 2 picks sooo i wont be working to hard to get recon

  • 06.16.2009 7:21 PM PDT

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I will never change my armor, maybe for Recon shoulders but that's about it.

But I will tell you this...

Thousands of people will unlock Recon in the first day, or so... And it will be seen everywhere, trust me... I don't think you truly fathom how obsessed a large number of people are for this armor.

OMG
Master Chief w/o his Helmet!

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

It will spread pretty quickly, despite the OP's and everyone elses longings to look unique. In fact it will spread because of that.

One interesting thing it will reveal however is who got on the naughty list for xp boosting ect.
