FRUSTRATED with lack of user friendly system on Bungie.net? BUNGIE please take notes from some other, OLDER websites.
If any of you ever visit or post in TheForce.net you can see how a forum in supposed to work. On your profile you can see a list of every post you ever made and re-enter the thread. You can also visit threads that have been posted in by people on your friends list. also, there is a search option that lets you search for a forum you read but didn't post in. Lastly, moderators don't allow multiple threads on one topic. They will always close a thread and leave a link to the original thread on the related topic. They also constantly monitor threads for verbal abuse and flamers often banning or suspending people for breaking the rules.
WOULD any of you like to see bungie.net implement some of these features on this website? IF so PLEASE leave some related suggestions or BUMP!
The reason I even decided to post this is because I have seen at least 15 different threads about the banshee on team rifles ascension( sometimes 4 on a single page of the thread listing.) And I believe the discussions could be allot better if they weren't allowed to go on in all these multiple threads. AND because you can find other topics easier if the thread listing wasn't filled to the brim with threads about the same freakin thing!

You're recommending that people bump? You DO know that's a rule violation right there? and the moderators of these other forums would be (as you said) "banning or suspending".

Here's some advice. Good advice, really.

First off, if you have ideas or suggestions for this site, there is a whole forum dedicated to just that. It's called The Septagon.

Secondly, the moderators of this forum DO pay attention. We don't micro-manage, but we do pay attention.

I am more than willing to move this thread from Zanzibar (dedicated to Halo 2 MP discussions) to the correct forum (The Septagon) where it can be seen, read and possibly responded to by the Bungie.net team.

It seems to me that if more people read the forum rules and other stickies near the top of every forum, they would know the rules (about bumping) and where to properly post threads, or look for answers to their questions or concerns.

Oh well, let's get this thing moved. Hopefully the "thread moved" notice (that has the link to where this was relocated) won't make people think that this was locked. It's not been locked. Just moved to where it should have been in the first place. But I would guess that many people are going to mistakenly assume and think that you have been "silenced by the man". *sigh*

Sorry, was just a little frustrated. Also, By bumping I meant that they leave a relavent response so the post wouldn't die, I didn't mean for people to just say bump like some other threadstarters ask. Should have been more clear on that.
ALSO. I guess I was just being plain lazy by forgetting about the septagon and posting in zanzibar.
BTW thanks for moving it, you could have deleted it and I would never have been the wiser.
YES you are doing your job , BY speaking of the mods on the other site and what they do , I never meant to imply that you don't do it yourself, just that they have a much larger staff Paid and volunteers to dish out on their threads.Once again I should have clarified but was being lazy. But anyway.. the reason for the whole thing is to put out suggestions so that others might agree or disagree for whatever reasons. And thanks for not being to harsh on me for my laziness.

So what you're saying is moderators never ban people from Bungie.net? Here's a wake-up call: they DO. Frequently. Unfortunately, the moderators spend most of their time dealing with actual spam (and there is a lot of it every day) than things such as multiple threads; and rightly so.

--->READ<--- yes read my posts and tell me where I said that moderators (key word) "never" ban people. Here's a wake-up call: I didn't. I "never" even said anything that resembles that. What I did mention was things that another site may do a (should I say slightly) better job of than bugie.net. And since the main gripe of my thread is multiple threads (ironic) that comment was just thrown in there with other suggestions so I wouldn't have to start one single thread on what I thought was a topic of minimal importance.
NEVER.. that is a word like infinity. When someones words are taken out of context it is easy to throw in those (how should I put this) words with extreme connotations without quoting me on it. Next time quote me where I said something before your reply is based on a NONEXISTANT line that you inferred out of context. SO.. thats "what i'm saying". sorry for your misinterpretation.
Your other points are well put and well taken.

From the way you laid out your post, that's what you seemed to be saying. You were making a list of things that should be done if, in your eyes, the Forum were to be run "properly". So the suggestion was there that the Bungie.net mods do not ban people. So, you see, it was in context.

Although this is a great place for information and visiting stats, Bungie.net has one the poorest major forums going. It is very hard to navigate and is not user friendly. Gamespy's setup is much easier to cruise around in.

  • 05.18.2005 12:55 PM PDT

Bottom line: users.
Bungie.net has more traffic in the main forums and in the hundreds/thousands of member managed forums than at a large fraction of all forums in existence combined.

  • 05.18.2005 1:42 PM PDT

I believe it boils down to the user base. Bungie.net users are here because they like Bungie's games, mostly the Halo series, which attracts a wide range of people. Unfortunately, the more people you get, from a broader more mainstream group, the more stupid little problems there will be, such as spamming, flaming, misposting, and creating duplicate threads.

I think Half of the Bungie.net forum posters don't actually read other threads. Believe it or not, a significant portion of them don't even read the frontpage news.

Don't forget all of the private chapter/group forums in the 7thColumn. Of course some did thought the threaded forums were better they have been redone last year to match these forums.

Wow thats one hell of a backflip. You need to clean up the way you post and where you post it. Your quote: " Laziness" shows a lack of respect for what you are implying here. You were being lazy, very lazy.

This'll all end in tears, I know it. If you really don't like the forums that much, then you don't have to post. You're not obligated to. The reason that you post is because you WANT TO. If you really hate it, just post on some different forum.

I bet there's not as many people that visit that site as this one.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

This site may have its flaws and the mods may not keep up on everything, but who are you to tell them how to run there site. Im more frustarted with getting error messages every 5 minutes. The fact is that bungie has well over a million members and very fiew mods to watch us. Yes this is there fault for not having more of a orce to clean up, but what can ya do. I cant tell they ae doing what they can with what they got.

Krypton,
you have no idea how much the mods here bust their butts. I myself got out of line in the forums once. Just once mind you, and I was banned for 7 days within MINUTES. They devote their time giving us answers, easing our minds, and extinguishing flames on a level that is far exceeded then what should be expected. Do you honestly think they like hearing the same gripe over and over. How many times a day do these people who spend countless hours providing us with joy and entertainment, have to hear some yahoo say they suck.

Of coarse if they hadn't made the best FPS ever, then this suck-ass forum wouldn't excist.
Dam you Bungie.............Shame on you

I'm not that active, but never dead.

That website is has a horrable front page. It looks like something like Yahoo, too much white, and too much information crammed onto the front page.

Oh, and the Old Coolness was far better than that site's forum organization. Trust me. Besides, Bungie.net seems to be slowly working it's back to something like it was before.

For a final note, you need to remember what Bungie.net was, VS what it had to become. Before Halo 2, (Heck even before Halo 1) Bungie.net was a site that was dedicated to hardcore Bungie fans. Back before the web became so mainstream. I think that Bungie.net only had about 10,000 users back then, and it was the glorious nirvana of forum-going. Now, Bungie.net has what half a million members? That's a big jump.

Besides, the heart of the 7th Column is the Chapters/groups. There you will find what you are looking for.

Let's get one thing straight: This forum is garbage compared to the traditional format. The mods here are a-holes to everyone, and the board is filled with a bunch of dorks, trons, and nerds who ask the same questions every day.

The mods here are a-holes to everyone,
Funny. They never have to me. Maybe because I respect them as human beings.

and the board is filled with a bunch of dorks, trons, and nerds who ask the same questions every day.
That's what chapters are for.

In my opinion, the Mods are helpful to those who seek it. If you chose to seek flames instead of help, then you need to take that up with your traditional format buddies. Once again IMO.
