I was wondering, my 15" monitor's specs say it can only display 1024x768 at 60 hz, but i can get it all the way up to 1280x768 at 60 hz, and to 1280x1024 @ 47 hz interlaced (believe me i wont use it there... refresh way too low)

if i use 1152x864 @ 60 hz on my monitor, can it overheat or something? it seems to be running smoothly at the moment

It will damage the tube of the monitor or decrease its life span. But at 60 hz, you should not go higher then that or else the tube can't handle flickering every images at the resolution.

heat becomes a problem for a monitor if you block the vents (stack of paper on top or something like that). Using resolutions higher than recommended is not good for a moniter, it might damage the scanning thingie or something like that.
