Am I the only one that thinks Natal is absolutely stupid? I realize its M$'s way of trying to horn in on Nintendo's action but the Wii is not that bad. You can still play Wii sitting down or with just a regular controller. I fear that Natal will be a part of Reach, and if it is, I don't know if I'll buy it.
The idea is kinda novel though, no controller and you use your body to do everything but, for an FPS, that's the worst idea ever. Its one of those, ya sure the idea behind is good, the product itself seems ok but in the end it sucks and causes more trouble and frustration then is needed... kind of like a ShamWow. A videogame shouldn't require you to stand up and look/act like an idiot in front of a TV when all you want to do is sit down after a long day of work and relax. \What do you guys think of Natal?
I honestly think that it would ruin Halo if it gets incorporated in, I just don't think there is any good way to make it work with an FPS.

  • 06.16.2009 9:39 PM PDT

Natal seems like it would be great for parties and stuff, but it doesn't find its home with Halo. Keep the two seperate

  • 06.16.2009 9:40 PM PDT

It won't be incorporated into Halo Reach. If it was going to be, Microsoft would have played it up.

  • 06.16.2009 9:41 PM PDT

oh death was never enemy of ours

natal is a new form of gaming, Reach is a new game 99% sure they wont have anything in common.

Well they have no release date, heck even a release window for Natal, and since Halo is like the flagship game for the 360, I'd almost bet that M$ would just about DEMAND that it get incorporated. Since Reach is just now being developed they'd have time to add it. Thats why Natal was announced now so developers could get a hold of it and use it for their games... I just hope not Halo.

I assure you, there is no possible way that Halo: Reach will have Project Natal incorporated into it in any way.

I think that Bungie well knows that something like that would not go well with the gaming world. Also, it would take a long period of time to harness and create a game like another Halo with that kind of technology.

I hate to see all these dumb Project Natal threads in the Halo: Reach forum.

and how!

Why is everyone assuming Halo: Reach will use 100% Natal? Seriously.

If Halo: Reach uses Natal in any amount, it will be for interacting with AI on a deeper level, not for gameplay.

The guys at Bungie are well aware that Halo would not be Halo without using a controller.

Was there any slight inkling that it WOULD be?

Does this mean that because it isn't said that Domino's pizza isn't made with 15% vasoline that it might be?

Allow me to give you an example. When Nintendo announced that the Wii would have Free Wi-Fi, to play up that feature, they said something along the lines of "Imagine a new super smash bros brawl that you could play over the internet". Even though they hadn't even planned to make a super smash bros game at that moment.

I'm sure they would have said someting like "Imagine playing Halo with such a control, now you really can accurately headshot those noobs" if they were going to implement it.

Natal was announced at E3 so that developers could get their hands on it and start incorporating it into their games.
Halo: Reach is just now in development.
Halo is the 360's flagship game, if M$ wanted to show off their new tech, what better game then the most successful series the have?

You are either very stubborn or actually know nothing about Natal.

Lionhead studios have developed an environment that uses Natal and enables people to talk to and interact with "Milo", a character that recognizes voice inflection and facial expressions, responding accordingly.

If Halo: Reach was to use Natal to a small extent, players could possibly converse with their A.I. allies, being able to have random small talk [could be hysterical for IWHBYD] as well as combat chatter.

For example: Telling your allies to stay back while you scout ahead, or tell them to only fire when the enemy spots them.

Pretty much. You are.

Natal is a huge technological leap. It's the one of the most important revolutions in interface technology since the mouse. Natal is NOT like the motion control technology on the other consoles, it's much more. You'll understand this in time.

Natal will not change the way a lot of current games are played. Halo will probably still use the same controller you're used to. What it WILL do is allow new types of games and change the way we interface with technology.

There will always be a someone who thinks it's cool to disparage anything new or different. Don't be that guy. If Natal comes out and it doesn't work then feel free to criticize. If a game comes out that uses the technology badly then criticize. But criticizing a technology that you don't understand that shows every evidence of working and being revolutionary just makes you a douche bag.

Halo: Reach has been in development for quite some time now, and Natal is just now being able to function and it still has many kinks [Did you see the way the avatar was flopping around during the E3 presentation?]

Those two things do not mesh together.

EDIT: Project: Natal currently has no release date and is only being tested by selected private companies. [Like Lionhead] Halo 3: ODST comes with a multiplayer beta for the game. If Reach used Natal, how exactly would we play the demo?

here's an idea.

Let's not consider that they would implement it fully, and still use a controller.

Now, instead of thinking of all the crap that would come with the full blown implementation, think of the small, individual actions you could perform through Natal that would require massive button combinations in a controller only game.

Also, Shamwow works more or less as advertised. I have two.

use your imagination on what natal can do.

So, you want to stay in controller land forever, or do you want to get to the point that Virtual reality is possible, where every movement is actually just impulses from your brain to your body intercepted by a computer and relayed onto a game screen?

thought so.

Well technically, it's just an invitation, but it is highly unlikely that a game that's been in development for as long as Reach has (I'm gonna assume that they started production way before they released a trailer :/ ) is going to incorporate something very new such as natal. Aside from some very late idea to use natal with the game menus, I can't see it being used in Reach. If it did for that matter, I'd hate it. Halo Reach != House of Dead, Area 51 or whatever other arcade shooter you prefer.

Honestly I think that Natal would be good for nothing more then a cheesy party gimmick...
and I think it would ruin Halo.
Some things may be incorporated and I really hope we have the option to not use it.

Regarding the first half of your post, no. I don't. Not even a little bit. Sure, there Natal is being used for simple childish games, it is an example. You could reskin all the models in the Halo 3 engine and make Master Chief an anime styled cowboy with a bubble around him that uses squirt guns that fire candy canes at hundreds of different sized paper mario's. That has nothing to do with the technology being stupid or not.

To the last part, you clearly did not acknowledge my entire post. Once again, we do not have any access to Natal and we will not for more than a year. How are we going to play a beta version of a game that uses Natal if we don't have Natal?

And no, don't try saying they won't have it in the beta and will in the final game. The point of a beta is to test the engine and gameplay to make sure they work well and are enjoyable.
