Subject: Why most people will cry

Lets consider the fact that ODST is an open world game.

What does this mean to us?

It means that on the day ODST comes out, there are going to be many of us who will go home, boot up the game, play for a bit, then sit down and cry.

Why, you ask?

Ive already stated the answer.

ODST is an open world game. Most people dont realize what this means. This means that people will have to learn restraint. The average Halo 3 player burns through ammo and vehicles like diahrea does toliet paper. They know, that either theres going to be ammo and new warthogs at the next checkpoint, or you can always jump off the nearst cliff and respawn next to your friend (who you only invited over so that you have a walking ammo bin) with a newly refreshed clip of ammo. Or, you could always borrow the marines' guns, they arent that useful anyway.

This mindset simply wont work In ODST. With out regular ammo and vehicle drops, players will quickly shoot away their ammo for their precious AutoMag and be rapidly finding them selfs up a river with out a gun.

For those players who havent already throw their Limited Edition ODST Controlers against the wall, they find themselves in a very hard place, having to chose between the vicious bullet hose SMG, or the highly deadly AutoMag. Myself, Id go with the AutoMag, Maximum stopping power with minimum ammo expense. I mean, You could always toss one in a corner you know you can come back to, but I dont know how well Bungie's constant instance mechanics work, you might find a surprise when you return to retreive your gun.

For those who choose to adapt, they will find themselves becoming very familar with the covenant weapondry. Salvaging these alien weapons will become a new art for some. Finding ammo for your human weapons will turn into an event to celibrate, probably followed by a raging rampage through covenant partols.

Even more important will be vehicles. And Halo 3 vehicles arent exactly durable. With a huge world to explore, that mongoose will become more imporant than that girl friend you thought you had. Protecting it may become your purpose in life. In fact I wouldnt be surprised if Vehicles became a new venue for self pleasure, if you know what I mean. Wink Wink nudge nudge? Dont think I didnt see you lookin at that centerfold scorpion. Ahh yeaa White Boy.

So mabey you ought to go boot Campaign right now, turn a few skulls on, and practice with that plasma pistol. Huh? Yea, thats what I thought.

Why? Just why?

I thought it was an accurate comparison, even if a bit vulgar. Then again, when have the forums ever been not vulgar?

Some players may have a problem, but those would have been bottom of the barrel types anyways.

Ammunition is not a problem when you're planning to beat everything to death.

I wonder how long that'll last, lol. Also, here is my strategy:

Reserve M6C/SOCOM ammo
When M7S ammo is depleted pick up a Type-25 DER/Jiralhanae Varient
If I find a good headshot, use the M6C/SOCOM
If I find another M7S, swap out the Type-25 DER/Jiralhanae Varient for it

Im not saying its a problem, in fact like it. I just think it will be interesting to see how people adapt.

Check Out my FileShare.
I was once on Bungie Faves. (Feb.7-15)
I'd like to know why I can't see the signatures of others of myself on the forum. I have made favs once, 7777 campaign kills, and I helped bring modders down when they were at their strongest

YES!!!! A Halo without little kids screwing it up!
I mean after the first month, I don't think I'll go back to the regular Halo 3

A7X FAN.

I'll like it, I don't like to burn through ammunition. It feels more fun to conserve and survive.

Yup. Even on Halo 3, I saved ammo where possible, because I never knew where the next ammunition supply would be (for the first few runs through, now it's all familiar).

I have a feeling I'm going to like ODST.

Haha, I highly doubt that.

  • 06.17.2009 9:22 AM PDT

I love open world games. If there are enough brutes running around with spikers, I don't think that ammo will be a problem. I plan on doing a lot of free roaming. Thats the best part of open world games. You can pretty much do whatever you want.

  • 06.17.2009 9:23 AM PDT

Does anyone even look at these?

This is why ammo management is a large factor in ODST.

  • 06.17.2009 9:27 AM PDT

Screw the Rules i have Money!

My plan, Adapt and survive and yea take anything that isn't nailed down

I'm pretty sure more than 75% of Halo players have also played a tactical shooter in their time of playing video games. Don't treat Halo fans like their mindless kids who shoot things that move...as much as its true.
