Destinypedia - The Wiki for Bungie's Destiny

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Recently, the Bungie.net forums have been the target of multiple posts involving phishing scam websites. These posts typically involve a user posting something along the lines of:Hey, check this out, sign-up to receive early access to the Halo: Reach beta! (or Microsoft is having a contest to win free Microsoft Points, or an XBox giveaway, or Recon Armor). Just click this link.

These websites that are posted are SCAM WEBSITES designed to steal users' account information. They typically look exactly like a real XBox Live website and may even contain links to real XBox Live websites. Many of these websites have "XBox," "Live," or "Microsoft" in the URL.

Ideally, it would not be necessary to warn you about these websites, and many of you are intelligent and able to spot these scam websites immediately. However, many, many of our forum users have fallen victim to these scam websites and had their account information -- including credit card information -- stolen (frequently, these accounts are also used to post the scam website again).

Please take note of the following:

1. Do not enter your Windows Live password on any website except https://login.live.com. Look for the "lock" icon showing that the website is secure before entering your password, and look for "https" in front of the url.

2. Posting any link to a scam or phishing website, INCLUDING "QUOTING" OR CUTTING-AND-PASTING, is grounds for instant permanent ban from Bungie.net. No matter how long you have been a member here, site admins and moderators must and will assume that your account has been compromised and will permanently ban you.

3. If you see another user post a link to a scam or phishing website, you may reply to the post to warn other users if nobody has yet done so. If another user has already warned people not to click on the link, please also click on the "REPORT" button for that post.

Please send a private message to any administrator or forum ninja if you have further questions. Thanks for helping to "Keep it Clean!"
