Subject: Getting a Level 50 In Halo:Reach

im Just trying to get more xp on my lone wolves 50 before reach comes out,Thats really the only time I put effort in. Other then that I mess around in social with friends... I use to play pretty seriously, that time has passed....

Getting a 50 in Halo 2 was pretty much impossible.. maybe a small handfull of people did it legit.. the rest modded... getting a 50 in halo 2 was an amazing feat.

Getting a 50 in Halo 3 is still impressive, but not near to the extent as one in halo 2.. the system was dumbed down so that more people could obtain a higher rank...

So what im wondering is, will they dumb it down even more on this new Halo? or will they make it harder to rank up again like in Halo 2? Or will they just keep it the same.. Your thoughts ?

Obviously Halo 2 wasn't intended to be impossible, and they won't make it's child's-play either.

I'll say the same. But is this really something that you ask yourself when faced with a game that's coming out fall 2010?

I'm not holding my breath or anything, Just curious on peoples thoughts about it.

With any luck there won't be any visible levels in Reach at all.

The writing's on the wall. The playlists ranks, double EXP weekends and no EXP playlists are telling you that Bungie knows H3's ranking system is a failure. I wouldn't expect visible ranks, ranked playlists or EXP in every playlist for Reach.

If there are skill levels attached to ranks in Reach, the same as in H3, I promise you I will refuse to earn any skill level that would promote me above Sergeant. I'm sick of all the BS surrounding ranks in Halo games.

BTW, that 30 in halo 2 is nice, good job

Wow your going to suck if the max level actually ends up being 100... lol

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I want them harder again, I'm a 45, and I feel like an average joe player. I mean, considdering 5 levels away from the top makes me feel AVERAGE, it is definitely too easy.

They have been dumping down halo in every singly aspect except the need of teamwork since halo:ce.

They should make the levelsystem a mix of halo 2's and 3's, it shouldn't be damn near impossibility to get a 50, but their shouldn't be so many generals (50s) in Reach. I'd say half the people that got a 50 right now should be 45 at maximum, that would be a good levelsystem.
And please quit that true skill crap, just logical system that needs a certain number of wins to level up, and a certain number of loses to level down, like halo 2s. Just make it a little easier to level up and a little harder to level down.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

To be completely honest with you, I sincerely hope that they decide to hide TrueSkill in Reach. The expansion of rankings in Halo 3 has only divided its community.

The only thing that would change is that you wouldn't get trash talked before the game because of your low level, but after the game for playing bad.
You really think this would change much?

  • 06.17.2009 12:38 PM PDT

Whatever they do, you can bet they will be trying to find ways to thwart boosters and cheaters.

My idea is that they should -not- display the ranks in game. The only reason people cheat to get a 50 is to see that number on their screen so that they can taunt everyone else and say "I'm better than you".

I dont believe you have the right to say "I'm better" until you are standing over my dead corpse.

Trash talking is unavoidable. You can stop people from trying to reinforce their ego's. The point of hiding the number is to discourage cheating. Why boost your way to a 50 when you wont be able to show it to people?

I wonder if the Online experiance will be different compared to the last few Halo games. Just a wonder.

Yeah but Xenon, many people like to play this game competitively. They play their Viva Pinata or Banjo Kazooie or whatever other games they have when they want to have fun and play relaxed. But then when they want to amp up the competition, they put in Halo. That competition will be sliced in half without a ranking system or some sort of true skill. Along with the fact that good players will get matched with bad ones, making the bad players more upset then second accounters did.

  • 06.17.2009 12:45 PM PDT

the rank up system is the same in halo 3 as it was in halo 2, the only difference that made it harder in halo 2 is that whenever you made up into the mid to high 30s, almost every game you played was either someone bridging for host, stand-bying, or just straight up modding. these things are a lot less common in halo 3 so all the level 35 got their chance to rank up.

Yeah they should get rid of ranks in halo and while they're at it lets get rid of playoffs and scoring all together in sports.

Slartin, im 100% certain they arnt the same

to get to level 20 in halo 3 can be done in 3 games lol, sometimes less.. (if playing with a higher rank)

To get to a level 20 in halo 2 can take upwards to 50 games...

Yeah it can be done in three games because your boosting with a 50, how many times, when you were new to halo 2, did you play with a level 50? none. it was probably a 35 tops and you probably didnt win most cause you were getting modded.

yeah its not called boosting if you play with a level 50... that is legit playing, since you have to be really good to hold your own, otherwise u just get torn up by the other 50's and your team loses.

Its actually a quick way to get your new account away from the low ranks so they dont complain as much.

People have expanded the definition of boosting to the extreme.

2 types of boosting, rank and exp

rank boosting: when you or someone else makes a negative exp account, goes on a bad account, plays doubles or whatever with good account so it'll rank up faster (system thinks he is carrying a bad player)

exp boosting: when you keep getting exp without truly earing it. I.e 8 of your friends play rumble pit and they all dont do anything on purpose, to earn them all an exp.

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

I really don't care about the ranks themselves. I just want a system that can consistently give me fair matches. I don't even play most default playlists anymore because half the time when I'm going in with my friends, all of whom are 50's as well, we just match up against low level 40 players and its not even fun.

I wouldn't be against hiding true skill. One of the things I would look forward to is seeing less idiots post about how good they are because they are a 50 when 98% of the time they made a new account and neg exp boosted in doubles. You also wouldn't hear idiots saying "OMG we totally have this" only to get destroyed by people who are way lower ranked than them because they boosted for their 50.

The good players no how good they are and don't need any number to tell them that.

Its embarrassing being associated with a lot people who post on these forums or just suck at Halo and somehow got a 50 and flaunt it. IMO, make the ranking system like H2, but make it a little easier to rank up so more than a handful of people can reach 50, but not too easy where they are being given out like candy. Whether its hidden or not, its too easy to reach the highest level in H3.

oh i know, its sad the amount of 50's that had to negative exp boost in doubles...truly sad

An interesting concept is a prestige mode while keeping your highest skills and getting matched up against people of the same caliber.
