Subject: Just to Clear things up a bit

"Living in the past is a luxury none of us can afford..."
"I know what the ladies like..."

I've been reading some theories around from people who are claiming ridiculous things and infering retarded -blam!-...so if you've read the books and know the halo story you'll agree with me when I say

1. There were no Spartan IIIs on Reach when it fell. During the battle of Reach the Spartan IIIs (Delta Company) were on Onyx.

2. There was never another class of Spartan IIs trained. Before Mendez could even train a new class of Spartan IIs the war with the Covenant began and shortly after he was charged with training Spartan IIIs. Therefore the Spartan heard in the teaser trailer is not in the Second Class of Spartan IIs.

3. The planet seen at the end of Halo 3 is not Reach. At the end of the game cortana says it'll be years before anyone gets the distress signal she sends out, this obviously means they're far from ANYBODY. Reach is part of the close "inner planets" of the UNSC. This means Master Chief is light years away from any human and the planet seen at the end must be half way across the Galaxy.

4. We won't be fighting brutes in Halo Reach. Again...if you've read the books...you'll know that the first time the SPARTANS saw Brutes was on Unyeilding Hierophant which happened after Reach.

5. Time travel is out of the question. Even Bungie seems to think so. This is an interview with Joseph Staten (JS) that I found on a website (HSP)

HSP: 'Time travel' has been decried by some readers as one of the more hackneyed plot devices in story telling. The events of Sep 7, 2552 at Reach provide ample possibility of that device being employed in Halo 2. What comments do you have in regards to time travel, Halo 2, and storytelling in general? [Or, paraphrased] Time travel is a little corny, don't you think?

JS: Absolutely.

Wow and I hadn't seen how many people are posting about time travel.

as true as this thread is, it won't deter the idiots out there.

to branch off #3, both planets have a different colored sun.

But let's not expect Bungie to follow the books exactly.

"Living in the past is a luxury none of us can afford..."

Well I remember seeing somewhere on the Halo 3 extra disc...where bungie was acctually ahead of the stories being written. They would tell the author what to write and the author would just put it into well a book form. lol. So basicly it was bungie who wrote the stories but not the books

They said in an interview that the books are just as much a part of the Halo story as the games are.

Exactly what I said lol

The fact that theres even an argument about that theory is a testament to the sadly low number of people who actually read the books.

Another thing... Is it just me? Or are -all- of the "time travel theorists" really bad at grammar? They all look like they texted their threads out on a cell phone somehow, probably in the middle of high school geometry class.

"Living in the past is a luxury none of us can afford..."

LMAO Not saying I'm a master at grammer (I really don't care about using it in online forums) but with some of these people you can't even understand what they're saying lol. Yeah it's sad to see how many people acctually appreciate the story Bungie has crafted. I mean alot of these people started playing the trilogy when halo 3 came out and they go as far as to infer things about a story they don't even know.

  • 06.17.2009 12:16 PM PDT

I wasnt referring to your grammar lol. Sorry bout that. Theres actually a thread somewhere around here where a guy literally used text lingo, i.e. things like "ur" "u" "dood" and all without any periods, commas, or capital letters. Just a giant 200-word sentence.

Hahahha. Yeah I see what your saying.

  • 06.17.2009 12:37 PM PDT

Monkey see, Monkey shoot.

Terry Pratchet - The Best.

I agree with everything, apart from the fact about the Spartan lll's.

I remember from the Onxy book, that not all of the Spartan lll's were on Onxy when it was activated, and were located somewhere else in UNSC space. I'll have to re-read to be sure.

That said I am slightly doubtful they would be on Reach if anywhere else.

Anyway, what people don't know is that the Chief was Near Reach when it fell. They could use that as an excuse to play as the bloody chief rather then a complex time travel theory.

Feel free to correct my memory.

"Living in the past is a luxury none of us can afford..."

Acctually Deltal Company ( the only Spartan IIIs alive at the time) were all on Onyx at the time awaiting to "graduate" lol. Which is what was about to happen when the battle of Onyx took place on October of the same year.

  • 06.17.2009 12:43 PM PDT

I see what your saying..

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher regard those who think alike than those who think differently.

كل نفس ذائقة الموت

I agree with everything wholeheartedly save for point number 2.

I'm not outright disagreeing, I'm just whitholding judgement for the time being.

Oh, and the book thing. The games, books, comics and most ad campaigns faithfully follow the Halo Bible. All Halo canon is written into that source material and all the books follow it except where the authors create some fiction worthy of inclusion in the Halo Bible, in which case it's written in.

Lol Joseph Staten has been in Bungie for a long time and was the writer of Contact Harvest. He had alot to do with the story and therefor has a lot of say

Just gotta clear one thing up with you to ensure your post is entirely factual.

In Contact Harvest, one of the first meetings between the Covenant and the UNSC was with a Brute Cheftain.

This made me laugh from how ironic your post is. Dr. Halsey actually said time travel was possible through slipstream space in FS.

Gamma Company. And there may have been some there, just the S-IIs in First Strike didn't see them.

2. There was never another class of Spartan IIs trained. Before Mendez could even train a new class of Spartan IIs the war with the Covenant began and shortly after he was charged with training Spartan IIIs. Therefore the Spartan heard in the teaser trailer is not in the Second Class of Spartan IIs.Frankie called ILB canon, and the Class IIs are from ILB... so they are real. I think that S-259 is a Class I though.

3. The planet seen at the end of Halo 3 is not Reach. Again...if you've read the books...you'll know that the first time the SPARTANS saw Brutes was on Unyeilding Hierophant which happened after Reach. But S-259 may have seen them on Reach, he didn't encounter Fred after the Spartans split up at the generators.

Well S 1's do exist, Sarg A.Johnson is thought to be one if you belive certain theorys. (I do)

And IloveBees was created by outside publisher, the basic details were agreed with bungie before they made it, so I wouldn't say Ilovebees is 100% cannon, but would still base theorys on it.

4. We won't be fighting brutes in Halo Reach. Wait one second, Brutes are all over the Haloverse, but they were invented halfway through the plot meaning that they are not evident in all the books, anyway they may be part of the invasion force.
