Subject: Reach's Storyline: The Verdict

There seems to be two main theories circulating about Reach's storyline.

1. Events will follow the experiences of the SPARTANS left on Reach before Halo 1. No curveballs.
2. The chief has, through some effect of the portal at the end of H3, time travelled back to Reach and must now save his Spartan friends.

Let's set things right for a second.

There is absolutely NO WAY that scenario 2 will occur. In fact, I strongly doubt that our beloved MC will even make an appearence in the game (except, maybe, at the end when they get rescued) . This would simply screw up the timeline of the Halo universe way too much. It is far more likely that we will follow the original team of Reach survivors as they fight their way out of there. I know that there is a lot of so-called "evidence" that the chief has time-travelled (planets look similar, etc.), and it is not unfathomable that the effects of the portal in combination with the Ark's activation could cause a breach in the time-space continuum, but I strongly believe that this is simply not the case.

Regardless of what I or anyone else thinks, the fact is we don't know ANYTHING about Halo: Reach right now, and it is far too early to dream up misled theories regarding the storyline. Whatever Bungie has in store for us, it will certainly be enjoyable and unexpected. There is no way that we will be able to predict all of the events in Reach (unless, of course, they refuse to deviate at all from the book). We never saw the Flood coming in H1, we never saw the arbiter or human/elite alliance coming in H2, and we didn't see the lost-in-space ending coming in H3. Why should we expect anything different from Reach (or, off topic, from ODST)? Until Bungie releases more information, we simply cannot make any educated guesses as to Reach's story.

So just be patient. All will be revealed in time...

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

right on... all they got is theorys.. not facts.. the only facts we know are

FPS

halo universe

battle of reach

it's called reach

there are some spartans

the covenant are attacking(wich includes the arbiter)

the UNSC is defending and possibly fleeing

the pillar of autom made an emrgency jump to a random destination to lead the covenant away from earth..(wich ends up being the location of instaltion 04)

in wich the arbiter follows the humans and also finds instalation 04

the fight is still going on at reach at this time and the details are unknown ecept that reach gets glassed. in some areas and eventuly the whole planet.

but details of the fighting on the ground is completely unkown to us.

agreed, although he could, play a part like in odst, where you which characters to gain a diiferent view of events. That is lame thinking though, playing the MC would be pointless.. and just milking at character. I want NEW.

Explain to me how a slipstream rupture closing can cause someone to go back in time. Considering the thousands of other slipspace portals that have been used in the games (albeit smaller) that never went back in time, I don't see how this one could.

Maybe it will fallow a certain group of spartans, including a younger 117, but they will all be a big part of the story, thats probably who's on the title picture. But hopefully it will be loads of spartans on screen, which would be awesome. And were're gonna fight elites. Can't wait.

That's what I'm saying. It doesn't seem possible.

The going back in time plot twist is like a bad movie from the 80's, I am sure Bungie wouldn't stoop to that level just to bring back Master Chief. I agree with you guys, but here's an idea: squad-based Spartan gameplay, but better than Rainbow Six. If that is the case, I do like how the squad controls were done in Republic Commando way back when.

O M G That would be awesome. A whole squad of spartans would wreck, though. It'd be too easy.

Or would it?

Well if you count in the situation from the Battle for Reach... no, it wouldn't be too easy. They'd be up against thousands of soldiers. Remember the nuclear football incident from Reach? Yeah, like that would be hard. Massive scale battles would be the best.
