What if an ODST drop pod landed in the water instead of on dry land? Could the occupant get out? Would it float? Or would the occupant just be screwed? Your thoughts...

That's what I was thinking.

Donuts > all other food

Couldn't the occupant simply open the pod then swim to the surface?

  • 06.17.2009 3:31 PM PDT

Well they have oxygen to survive the vacuum of space, and so do the odst suits, so if they could swim they'd be safe.

But the occupant has a lot of heavy metal armor on and flying in at a high rate of speed could make them go far down into the water before they could get out.

Guys wat are you talking about? Water is just a myth.

Heavy armor+Water=Drown

Any problem on Earth can be solved with the careful application of explosives. The trick is to not be around when they go off....

E-mail; save a stamp fire a mailman...

im sure drop pods float seeing how they have a giant opening of air in the middle, besides 500 years in the future don't you think drop pod engineers would have thought of this very situation?

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?

Dyor' Docuree (2nd in command of the powerhouse, The Sangheili Army)

now "what if" the ODST pod had built-in propellers that allowed the pod to "swim" to dry land, like a submarine.

JK, they'd probably drown.

I'd imagine it would do something like this.

Hitting water at that speed is like hitting concrete. It will lose all momentum before it starts to sink, therefore possibly providing the occupant with enough time to eject before sinking.

Except an HEV isn't slowed down even remotely close to the speed of the shuttle cap.

Well I understand you mean heavy=sink but that is why we have thought of bouyancy instruments like air the easyist to think of plus I am sure ships are heavier than the armor so ya the ODSTs are safe

I want my steaks Luke...

They'd be screwed. When an object is sealed and dropped into water, it will not open without equalized pressure... The force of the water on the pod would hold the blast door in place because the water is trying to fill the the space where the pod is. The ODST would be stuck in a nightmare just sitting in a single steel box waiting for the time where his oxygen levels would run out and suffer the long and quiet death of suffocation. But he wouldn't wait, he'd struggle and rip out his very soul just to get out of his grave and only ensure he died a quicker and more painful death... as said in halo 2: the silent grave... sitting there, waiting for the light to never come...

Well it's air tight. He would sink to as low as possible... Then... Well... It depends how deep he is...

  • 06.17.2009 6:26 PM PDT

Maybe Soffish save ODST.

I was in 5th grade. I popped in the Halo CE disc into the massive, clunky first generation Microsoft Xbox, and wrapped my small hands around the controller that was almost too big for me. Little did I know what I was getting into.

10+ years later, I still look up to my childhood hero, Master Chief, while everyone talks about He Man and Spongebob haha

I'm sure the ejection force of the HEV door would overpower the force of the water pressing against the pod.
