They didn't tell us what it was it could have been anything. Frankie gets scared easy incase you didn't know.

They'd be screwed. When an object is sealed and dropped into water, it will not open without equalized pressure... The force of the water on the pod would hold the blast door in place because the water is trying to fill the the space where the pod is. The ODST would be stuck in a nightmare just sitting in a single steel box waiting for the time where his oxygen levels would run out and suffer the long and quiet death of suffocation. But he wouldn't wait, he'd struggle and rip out his very soul just to get out of his grave and only ensure he died a quicker and more painful death... as said in halo 2: the silent grave... sitting there, waiting for the light to never come...

Do you guys actually believe that the UNSC, 500 years in the future, haven't postulated and fixed this problem?

Actually, 543 years....

Thank you, since it would take that extra 43 years to discover how to sink-proof an object.

All they would need to do is make the capsule airtight, which it obviously is, and heavier on the side the soldier's back is while keeping that weight even. That way it would float, and then the soldier would be able to eject.

Because Bungie said so.....

what would really uck is if theuy landed in the ocean and went around 5000 meters under :(

I want my steaks Luke...

Doesn't matter how advanced they are, to some extent, physics will always come back and bite them in the *blam*. Lets see, two tons of hurtling steel plummeting, plus a hight that surpasses the atmosphere, plus the amount of time that allows from acceleration... there's no telling how far down the pod will go into the water. With an increase in pressure the farther down you go... My theory could very possibly be right...

Couldn't the occupant simply open the pod then swim to the surface?

I want them to be screwed.

Clearly you don't understand that water with an unbroken surface tension is as hard as concrete. The pod would hit it, and completely lose all momentum, then since they're smart enough to develop pods than can float, because it's the year 2552, they can eject. It's very simple. Boats can float, they way more than a drop pod, a -blam!- ton more.

Guys wat are you talking about? Water is just a myth.

WIN.

  • 06.17.2009 7:01 PM PDT

i think there would be a manuel handle that u can pull or something you would just have to do it before the water pressure would totally screw u and it wouldnt open and i believe the helmet would have an oxygen thing so you would have enough time to swim up but thats what i would imagine

I'm sure they've thought of situations like this... I mean the drop pods probably hit where expected 99% of the time do to planned drops and limited mobility. But also, in the ODST section on drop pods, it talks about how the success of an orbital drop is based on the whole, not the individual. So casualties are expected, for the most part.

Hi! It's me!!! Wait what? You don't know me? Oh just see what I can do. XP

Water+Metal= rust+Sea monster+Water (Which is just a fancy word for Acid)= DEAD ODST TROOPER!

Stuffz....

honestly, even if he survived, what good was he in the middle of the ocean??

If things happened and they did become trapped in the bottom of the ocean they have 3 choices (Two of which you have named TheOffroadDude): wait and struggle. But I believe the ODST drop pods have weapons in them, do they not? And the ODST has his/her SMG and Magnum, also. He/she would suffer a quicker death, obviously, but not exactly as painful as it would seem.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I'm sure there is some sort of device that enables a floating mechanism to bring the pod to the top.

  • 06.17.2009 8:22 PM PDT

The ejection mechanism would break the lid open, and ODST suits are spaceproof... at least those with fingers are, that is.

He'd be fine. It'd probably burst open, then float to the surface. Also ODST pods have a reserve fuel tank that allows the pod to "jump" in case they land wrong or something.
