Bringing you lame jokes, social awkwardness and the occasional good idea since 2008

No, not confirmed by bungie, but just use your common sense. No brutes in combat in Halo CE or and of the books until later, no Brutes in Reach.

  • 06.17.2009 4:28 PM PDT

i would like to see them still but not the main troop replaceing the elites it would be nice to see both elites and brutes working together fighting you.

  • 06.17.2009 4:28 PM PDT

I don't care if I don't see a single brute in campaign, so long as they leave their weapons, specifically the spikers and the brute shots lying in neat abandoned piles across all the multiplayer maps.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

I also hope so. I'd really like to see at least one or two encounters with Brutes, and furthermore, see them operate under the command of the Elites. In Halo 2 they didn't really fight together.

Still never mentioned in the Fall of Reach. I'm gonna assume that the prophets didn't trust such heavy responsability on the brutes.

The Fall of Reach might be the most bloodiest battle of all UNSC - Covenant battles, lots of Spartans fell, lots of Elites and Covenant ships were drestroyed, not to mention Reach was the planet fortress of the UNSC

Well if you want to know what Halo REACH will probably be about, check out Halo: First Strike (Halo: TFoR doesn't show the fall of the planet, it happens 30 mins after that book ends)

There were 11 Spartans on the surface of Reach who we don't know the story of, and Spartan-259 and -320 are mosy likely members from that team. They weren't at the UH, and weren't with Fred and co. before they left for the Covenant station... so they can fight whoever they want.

This made me chuckle quite a bit. Anyways, I haven't read the novels, but I'm going to assume the brutes didn't become part of the covenant until after the destruction of the first Halo.

They were one of the first species we encountered according to one of the newer novels. They were just always in the background (and so were Elites, who the Chief didn't encounter until Reach was invaded)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Spartan II program started with 150 candidates, narrowed down to 75, narrowed down to even less, narrowed down more as the war progressed... blah blah blah...

But regardless, they started with 150 candidates. Why would you give numbers to candidates that are higher than 150? Especially that much higher?

Obviously Spartan 259 and 320 were part of the 2nd class of Spartan IIs, the ones that Mendez had to go leave to train. A convinient way of dodging the canon and creating an original story.

Mendez went to train the Spartan-IIIs, and the S-III call signs are different than S-II call signs (and the S-III are still teenage children, not as large as S-IIs).

I think that either bungie will take something from ILB (which, IMO, will just be stupid and confusing, since they have so much to work with on the Spartans on the surface of Reach), or they will say that there were 320+ children surveyed, from those, the best 150 were chosen as candidates, and from that, only 75 were inducted into training due to budget restraints (150 seems like a pretty small number to start out with for a multi billion dollar project, they had to have narrowed it down from something)

  • 06.17.2009 9:52 PM PDT

Ah, he went to train the Spartan IIIs? Didn't realize that, haven't read Ghosts of Onyx.

But yeah, they started with a huge list, Dr Hasley and a much younger not-captain Keyes went around narrowing the list down to 150 candidates in the program, through the early training half of them were weeded out and such.

It really depends on if the Spartan III project had been started before the fall of Reach. Personally I think it wouldn't, the spartan project was Hasley's thing, and while she was around, she wouldn't let Ackerson take over, it was only when she vanished was he able to take control of the project.

(spoilers below)

The S-III project began in 2531, one of the S-IIs and Mendez trained them. They were throw-away-soldiers, used only on high risk missions.

All of the companies were wiped out, but a company of 315 (Gamma Company) may have been in existence around the time Reach fell, but it is unknown when exactly they graduated; and if they were, they may not have been headed to Reach, but to some behind-enemy-lines mission like the companies of S-IIIs before them.

Ackerson managed to get his project funded by ONI because he rivaled Halsey's (she didn't know about it until Reach fell) expensive Spartan-IIs by producing numerous Spartan-IIIs for a fraction of the cost.

It's possible that they were going to be part of OPERATION HYPODERMIC, chich was probably based out of Reach Gamma Station... maybe they were going to go on a mission similar to the ones that the Spartan-IIs were aboard the Pillar of Autumn for.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

The Brutes during the events of The Fall Of Reach, Halo 1, and First Strike were not used in combat becuase of their failure at Harvest. Brutes were not used as the Covenants main military force untill Halo 2.

They could have still served as auxillary troops on Reach... I would love to see some Brutes in this game. The ones from First Strike, which would literally be terrifying to fight. Not the ones from Halo 2 and 3.

They kinda do overlap with the elites a bit though... hopefully the Elites get their own badass like behavior that further seperates them from the group based berserker close quarter mastery-ness of the brutes.
