it says.. " The game also points towards another important relationship in the Halo universe-between Master Chief and Cortana who would work to ultimately to finish the fight during the events of Halo 3. " I don't know where they get this from... anybody have a clue?

It's all BS. If the trailer shows the invasion of Reach, why would the game be about Halo: The Fall of Reach? Reach only gets invaded in the last couple chapters. If you had all of that jumping through characters and time, the storyline would be a POS because it would be too hard to follow, and the gameplay would be incredibly inconsistent mission-to-mission.

The trailer shows the fall of the planet Reach. The game will probably start at the end of TFoR when Reach is invaded, and it will probably stretch into the beginning few chapters of FS which pick up where TFoR leaves off (the planet doesn't fall until in First Strike, 30 mins after the PoA leaves the system). Since S-259 and -320 (from the trailer) weren't with Fred, Kelly, etc. in CASTLE base, it would thus be safe to assume we are playing as new Spartans.

Not new in the sense of from a new Class, but new as in they have never been named before. There were 11 Spartans of Team Beta on Reach, all healthy, left to defend the orbital generators while the other Spartans went on their missions. It's possible that 5 of them got away, and we will experience a largely new story (while still seeing some stuff from TFoR and FS).

I do believe you are right, (its been a while since i read the books, but) doesn't one of the books go over the entire part about the spartans left behind to defend the generators?

Yeah, the beginning of First Strike picks up where Fall of Reach left off.

They didn't name the 11 who stayed at the generators, Fred split his Spartans up and the story follows him into CASTLE base.

Well, if you recall from the opening scene in Halo: CE, Cortana is fully aware of MC. This is shown by her interaction with Captain Keyes to thaw him out.

Even in the opening scene of Halo 3, a relationship between the two before Halo: CE was on display. Cortana says, "I got to choose, do you know that?". This means that she got to choose the Spartan whose armor would house her. Keep in mind this is not just MC, but all the Spartans of the Spartan-II program. In this way, like in Halo: CE and Halo 2, she guides the Spartan through his mission and such. She chose Master Chief because of "luck" as she explains in the intro to Halo 3. So it is possible that this relationship could be established in the storyline by this game, depending on how closely they want to follow the novel.
