Their trailers cause so much stir and hype and we all process it so much. There probably sitting there laughing at most of these ridiculous theories. Just like in the forum for ODST before the full prepare to drop trailer came out.
Everyone. This game will have something to do with reach and spartans. I'm sure of it.

  • 06.17.2009 8:46 PM PDT

EXACTLY!!!! Everyone is over thinking it. There's all these stupid essay like posts that are a bagillion words that are to complicated. The problem is everyone is twisting the trailer into what they want to believe and how they want the game to be and are not looking at the obvious facts. That and the banner has caused more commotion then the trailer.

Read this.

The third paragraph explains my theory.

The trailer itself is pretty easy to understand. So much so that people are forced towards outlandish things like time travel to try to break new ground.

Personally I liked the dragon thread, that one was easily solved, but I still want to ride Yoshis in Reach.

I'm also lost as to why people have trouble believing its Sam, Kelly,John,Fred, and Linda. Like the only one possibly wrong is Sam, if you read the books you glance at it and are like oh yea I see. But people fight everything I suppose

as one of the cool people who actually read one of the halo books, The Fall of Reach is, as many know the battle where all but one of the spartans fell. Reach was a military stronghold, surrounded by a Covenant armarda, though defended by 20 super mac guns in orbit. most of the spartans fell defending the super mac powerstations, on the planet surface. there was one who went to destroy a gutted ship with the location of earth on a computer with the master chief, but she was killed by a jackal.

therefore, i would be amazed if this game did not focus around this last battle, particularly since Reach was one of the last inner colonies to fall. it is even a possibility that the master chief will feature prominently, perhaps with the final level being an action escape from his elite infested orbital platform.

maybe the halo 3 mythic map orbital will be this instatation. the view of the planet below is consistent with the book's description of Reach, and also the artwork for the game. any thoughts?

You apparently didn't read the other books. Because um alot more lived. Now there on Onyx. Alot is only relative to him thinking there's only one left. I don't remember the exact amount still alive after GoO

Suggestion is read First Strike, it links Halo:CE to Halo 2 and also tells you how the Spartans survived reach.

Because that is an assumption all on it's own, and a poor one if you've read the books. Your talking about taking the trailer for what it is, and not overcomplicating, ok lets simplify. We see Reach under seige, what do we know, that MC and Linda weren't on the planet. That being said, why would they be on the banner? There needs to be an explanation, and when an explanation is needed, but not provided, theories pop up. Not everyone likes to take the easy way, there is no right or wrong. Though there certainly are theories that are rediclous, there are also some really good ones.

True, and I like how you look at it. But people forget that they participated in Reach's defense to destroy a NAV database. Technically they were in the battle even if there weren't on planet. They just left when PoA Jumped to escape being destroyed. And my theory is that it is them. Linda the Sniper, then the first sentence in First Strike is " spartan *** Fredrick twirled his combat knife" or something like that so I would think the one would be Fred, Then John was the leader of the group, and the leader of Blue team which consisted of those mentioned. Then Kelly the fastest spartan would have no weapons for she is a would be a scout and they lost there weapons when they had to abandon ship when the driver of the pelican was killed and they had to jump. Then there's Sam who was stated in the book to be a head taller then John and was a heavy weapons expert. I dont see how its a poor assumption if I read the books... ( just defending myself :p )

There is no need, I was not attacking your theory, simply stating that many question theories out of their curiosity born from their appreciation and understanding of the story. Personally since I feel Reach will cover more than just the ground engagement on Reach, I agree that John and Linda are most likely the center and sniper soldiers depicted. Sam was dead long before that engagement, so it most likely isn't him, but who knows. My true want for this game is to cover engagements from the beginning of the Spartans training all the way through the loss of Reach.

does anyone have any idea where these people are getting these time travel theories

im serious they are so stupid, they see a game taking place in the past and they asume that it is time travel its called a prequel for a reason.

i thought i was the only one who thought these theories were stupid
im glad to meet some people who actually agree with me : D
anywas if Halo:Reach was based on a stupid time travel theory the game play would be really dull ps: Bungie doesn't like time travel

Yeah... Agreed. Overthinking from a teaser is probably one of the dumbest things you can do. Use basic knowledge and common sense to piece something together. Or else you're just going to end up reading into it so deep, that you're going to confuse yourself and or put ridiculous far fetched thoughts into your head.

Although I think these time travel theories are the stupidest things... Bungie does like time travel, thats kinda how marathon ended I believe...

But I still think its stupid people think it's time travel, whoever actually read the books are / would be MUCH more excited for a prequel and showing all the stuff before the halo installations were discovered. at least I am : ]

im 100% with you
i would much rather have a prequel than any other halo game at the time
i mean i dont want to play in the past as someone from the future, it wouldn't make since saying on how there would then be 2 master chiefs long story short if there are two of anything that are form different times than bad stuff happen ect: playing as a time traveling chief fighting a covenant army suddenly the elite you are about to kill and flash then there are 50 elites 25 brutes 12 jackals 6 grunts and 2 hunters surrounding you
paradoxes dont last long

I'm not sure if everyone knows this but reach was one of the halo books. I wouldn't be surprised if it is based off the book. Back at one point when there were over 100 spartans.

yeah but the book is based off a pre established event that happens right before combat evolved plus according to the halo wars timeline there where even 300 spartans (for a reason) just most didn't survive the robotic implants

300 looked at, 150 cut for money reasons I think, and training facilities, then it was to like 40 battle ready Spartans after argumentation I think?
