Subject: what is a fair price for h3: odst

well its hard to judge what people think about it on general gaming forums bcuz everyone hates halo there anyways

True.
In today's industry, you're either pro Halo or anti Halo. Very rarely do you get guys that are indifferent.

Well fine then, if Gears of War 2 weren't the first people to use that idea then tell me. Please?

Galaga
Galaxian
Space Invaders
Centipede
etc.

lol in a way I'm messing with you and in a way its true
Actually it came from Marathon, you're not really messing with me when those are the points of the game, but I get what you're saying.

And here's a post from another thread that pretty much sums it up nicely.

1. It has an entirely new campaign that is revolutionary for the Halo series.
2. Three new multiplayer maps worth $10
3. Firefight mode that has its own maps
4. An entire multiplayer mode with 24 maps for those who don't have Halo 3
5. Forge and Theater on every one of those maps and the latter in Campaign

1. It is entirely new.. Based on the same engine (which is less work) but it is new to Halo nonetheless.. We don't know how long it is though. Last time I heard it was a good 4-6 hours depending on difficulty and that would be shorten drastically if played in Co-op

2. That's awesome!

3.How many maps? Firefight is awesome though, since it has an almost limitless replay value. I'm surprised MS/Bungie didn't hold on to that and sell it as another expansion.. They could've gotten way more money like that.. I mean who wouldn't buy that?.....

4. Aww that's nice. Bungie giving all those map packs for free! Wait.. Who didn't buy the maps? And who is gona buy ODST when they don't have Halo 3 to begin with?

5. What? I'm no expert but can't they just copy paste that.. I mean maybe they didn't even copy paste... It IS the same engine, so... That's not even a reason.

Why won't people stop trying to justify it? They did overprice. That doesn't change my mind though, I'm still going to buy the game.. but please stop trying to justify it.. It makes us look like fan boys..
Hey now, you totally forgot about the super awesome "invitation only" Halo: Reach multiplayer beta and the ability to unlock Recon. Now isn't that worth $5... psh $20 extra. It seems to me Bungie is cutting US the deal here.

WE GET DA RECONZ?? OGM BEE-AR-BEE I R GUNA PR3ORDAR! HOW DOES I DONAT MONIEZ TO MICRO$OFT? I N33DZ TO GEIV DEM MONEIZ 4 TEH RECONZ!!!
And don't forget your free Srg. Johnson "skin" when preordering. You know come to think of it, we are kinda ripping off Bungie. So if we add in the extra controller and the price the game AND the Johnson skin preorder, we have a $120 price tag of what we should be paying. Thank you Bungie for making this game so original, unique, and fairly priced.

I'm good with $60 (U.S.) I can (and have) saved up and afford it with more to spare. My job supplys me with enough to buy it and not have to worry about the rest of my budget.

About firefight:
If you had watched the newest press review, you would have known that Firefight was originally planned for Halo 3, but it got laid aside due to more pressing content. Gears 2 came out in 08, Halo 3 came out in 07. I think we know who came first.

Just because it wasn't included in the shipping game doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The Bungie guys had LAN multiplayer for ONI in their office for a while, even though the shipping game did not. (Reference: 10/37/08 Bungie Podcast)

  • 06.18.2009 6:25 AM PDT

wow if bungie just called it ODST and considered this a stand-alone title there would not be an argument.

  • 06.18.2009 7:30 AM PDT

(Bungie > 343i)

$59.99

  • 06.18.2009 8:21 AM PDT

My troll sense is tingling.

*put smallest finger on edge of lips, camera zooms in* 1 MILLION dollars!

There is no universally fair price, especially with this installment. Someone without the map packs and without Halo 3 entirely (two different groups of customers, I mean) are at a major selling advantage over those who have Halo 3, and arguably Halo 3 and Xbox Live.

As far as Microsoft's pricing, they picked a smart price. $60 for a Halo expansion is something they know they can pull. They're totally right -- no one wants to, but a lot of people are going to. Enough people are going to. I know I'm going to.

I don't mind the deception that this was "just an expansion" that became a whole game of its own. And no, not because it's Halo and I'm a fanboy (seems to be the conclusion). That's just how I roll, personally. I totally understand why everyone else feels about it, and I don't advocate my emotions as the more reasonable. But I'm going to buy it at $60, and I think $60 is totally fair and within reason. I sort of considered the expansion, 'cause that is technically a better deal, coming with a wireless controller for the $40 extra.

Let's see: Halo 3=$60 $30 Campaign, $30 Multiplayer. -$10 each for age
ODST:
$25 worth of DLC
$20 Campaign
$20 Multiplayer

Yeah, $60 seems fair to me.

$20 for multiplayer you already have on another disk? why pay again for multiplayer you already have? (assuming the new maps are counted in the DLC portion of your breakdown)

I may be an idiot but what am I?

£10-£15 most, i already have the maps so why do i want them again?

8 hrs and anew mode isnt worth £60

  • 06.18.2009 8:52 AM PDT

Look, if you haven't bought Halo 3, don't yet.

Halo 3 multiplayer- $40

Legendary Map Pack- $8

Mythic Map Pack 1- $10

Mythic Map Pack 2- $10

Halo 3:ODST- NEGATIVE $8

IF you don't have Halo 3, and you want to buy ODST, don't buy Halo 3, just wait until ODST comes out and buy it, then go rent Halo 3.

Microsoft is ripping of the fans, and giving a better deal to the newer players.

It should be more than $60, just feel lucky.

think about this, you pay $40 for ODST campaign and firefight. then you pay $20 for all the maps, multiplayer, halo reach beta and i think they are upgrading forge( not totally sure)

That still doesn't make it existent. And Halo CE had Xbox Live even though it didn't ship with it.

The Beta doesn't count as part of the price, when we bought Crackdown we didn't have to pay for the Halo 3 Beta.
