Subject: Halo 3: ODST is $60 because...

1. It has an entirely new campaign that is revolutionary for the Halo series.
2. Three new multiplayer maps worth $10
3. Firefight mode that has its own maps
4. An entire multiplayer mode with 24 maps for those who don't have Halo 3
5. Forge and Theater on every one of those maps and the latter in Campaign
6. Invitation to the Halo: Reach beta
7. YOU CAN HAZ RECONZ!!!! (if you get the achievements)

Looking at all these features in one game, we can see that Halo 3: ODST is closer to being its own game than an expansion of Halo 3. In fact, the crossover multiplayer mode is the only thing that Halo 3 owners can complain about in terms of the full-game price tag. And let's face it, plenty of games have retailed for full price without an online multiplayer mode, or even without something akin to Firefight, Forge and Theater, such as Fallout 3 and The Force Unleashed.

From the perspective of someone who doesn't have Halo 3, it is tremendous value for money, and any attempt to offer it at a discount price to owners of Halo 3 would result in massive amounts of cheating.

Just my two cents...

ROBOHOG IS VERY BRILLIANT AND STUFF.

From the perspective of some people on these forums, it is the end of the world and will result in much raping and pillaging and "Judgement day is upon us" rubbish. Of course, people with at least some common sense know that it isn't, but you try explaining it to those that feel like we're five minutes away from Armageddon.

If the campaign is longer then eight hours, then my money is theirs.

I'm sure it will be on higher difficulties. In fact, due to the stealth elements and discoveries you make, even if it's technically the same length then it should take longer to complete.

Why Hello There ;D

Thread for you.

I am going to lube your butt hole with nacho cheese and -blam!- you with a crowbar.

They said in an older game informer that it is shorter than H3. That and it has a 2 year old MP that I most of us already have makes it 60 US for half a game.

That's a thread for the crybabies who don't understand the concept of profit.

In my opinion,
The campaign is worth $30 (An old, good game with only story mode you used to be able to buy would be worth $20. So the updated graphics and more optional gameplay are worth an extra 10).
New map pack, worth $10.
Firefight worth $10.
Theater is nothing relatively new now that it's in two games, so I'd total the cost about $50-$55.

If ODST's open-world environment in the campaign proves highly replayable and not redundant, then I would call the price fair at $60.

  • 06.18.2009 2:29 AM PDT

Most people are just mad because of the $20 price increase at E3.

Ok, lets see what all we get.

Disc 1
Halo 3: OSDT campaign (which is slated to last about 5 hours tops)

NEW Firefight mode (that totally wasn't ripped off Gears of Wars 2's Horde Mode)

Theater Mode

Ok, that seems like a nice expansion for $40.

-"Now on to disc 2."
-"Wait, why is there a disc 2? Wouldn't it make more sense to put them one a single disc."
-"Nope, cause now we get to jack up the price $20"
-"Wait, WHY?!?!"
-"Because we're the greedy M$ Corporation."

Disc 2
Halo 3 Multiplayer/Forge/Theater

All of Halo 3's downloadable maps (that we already payed $30 for)

The 3 New Mythic maps that you can only get early (You mean like you did with Halo Wars and everyone was pissed)

Other
These are things that any normal person would look at and say they should either be free, or shouldn't be advertising them as extra content. These items in no way, shape or form should have ever determined the price in the least.

The "Other Videmasters" to unlock Recon (We shouldn't have to pay anyways seeing as how we were shown Recon along with the other Armors BEFORE Halo 3 came out

The "Invitation" to the Halo: Reach multiplayer Beta. (Wait, why wasn't the Halo 3 Beta, that we downloaded with Crackdown called an "invitation?" Is it because Microsoft knew about this and wanted it to seem like we should have to pay for it? Yes, yes it is.)

1. It is entirely new.. Based on the same engine (which is less work) but it is new to Halo nonetheless.. We don't know how long it is though. Last time I heard it was a good 4-6 hours depending on difficulty and that would be shorten drastically if played in Co-op

2. That's awesome!

3.How many maps? Firefight is awesome though, since it has an almost limitless replay value. I'm surprised MS/Bungie didn't hold on to that and sell it as another expansion.. They could've gotten way more money like that.. I mean who wouldn't buy that?.....

4. Aww that's nice. Bungie giving all those map packs for free! Wait.. Who didn't buy the maps? And who is gona buy ODST when they don't have Halo 3 to begin with?

5. What? I'm no expert but can't they just copy paste that.. I mean maybe they didn't even copy paste... It IS the same engine, so... That's not even a reason.

Why won't people stop trying to justify it? They did overprice. That doesn't change my mind though, I'm still going to buy the game.. but please stop trying to justify it.. It makes us look like fan boys..

Hey now, you totally forgot about the super awesome "invitation only" Halo: Reach multiplayer beta and the ability to unlock Recon. Now isn't that worth $5... psh $20 extra. It seems to me Bungie is cutting US the deal here.

And don't forget your free Srg. Johnson "skin" when preordering. You know come to think of it, we are kinda ripping off Bungie. So if we add in the extra controller and the price the game AND the Johnson skin preorder, we have a $120 price tag of what we should be paying. Thank you Bungie for making this game so original, unique, and fairly priced.

Fallout 3 didn't need any of that though. If you tried to find everything, there's atleast 60 hours of gameplay there.

Or Bioshock, but those games had a good campaign as opposed to Halo 3's which was awful. The only thing that saved it was Multiplayer and Forge. Fallout 3 and Bioshock relied on a good story and nice environments. Not 6 hour campaigns like ODST and Halo 3.

bioshock 2 now has MP....and its developed by a separate dev team than the SP

that means it will have a full great SP and full MP

and it is...60$

the same price as ODST

what a joke

$60 is too much to pay, besides I already own about half the content they are selling with ODST, why should I pay for it again? Bungie is not thinking of the people who have been loyal to them. Bungie and Microsoft are only thinking in terms of profits. So I am thinking in terms of a consumer who is looking out for my own best interest. Yes, it's a good deal for someone who does not have Halo 3, but it's a rip-off if you already own Halo 3 and have already bought all the maps. (Yes, I paid for the Heroic Maps.)

Yep, Halo is their cash cow, and they won't give a damn about the fans until something is noticeably wrong with Halo; ie Windows Vista.
