Subject: Just finished Halo:CE campaign for the first time

I wasn't gaming when this stuff first came out (I started with Halo 3) so I recently bought Halo 1 and the other night, I finished playing through the campaign.

Am I crazy or was that a lot harder than Halo 3? I played on normal and it was tougher than I thought it would be. Yeesh! The Flood were a big pain in the butt. One melee hit and the shields go down.

Also, I was horrible at driving the warthog. I'm used to controlling my movement by power-sliding all over the place like in Halo 3 and I couldn't figure out a way to do that in this game. My banshee flying skills were miserable as well.

It is a real shame that we can't get some multiplayer matches going over XBL. I messed around on some of the maps and they look fun.

Same.

I completed it today and I totally know what you're saying, I had the same problems as you with the driving and flying. I couldn't even do normal by my self, I had to get my brother to help with split screen.

:P

Too bad there's no online play - we could have a banshee dog fight. It would last 2 hours and the score would be 0-0...

:-)

I loved being able to hover with the Banshee and back up with it. Playing Halo 2 for the first time I was the same way with the Banshee but for different reasons ha. Is it me or did the campaign seem longer in Halo: CE then Halo 3 as well?

I think it seemed longer because on some missions you had to go back through the whole level, I think Two Betrayals was one of them.

Absolutely longer - no quick kills, and you've got to wait around for the shield. But they're geographically longer overall as well.
I've done some timing....Ark, the longest level on 3, is actually shorter than several CE levels.

Campaign was the main focus in Halo: CE. That's why it's longer, and better.

It's not necessarily harder, just more challenging. Whereas in Halo 3, you just pour lead into everything and it dies quickly, in Halo: CE, you need to play tactically. Potshots only work on Grunts.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I played through all three from last Saturday to today (Reach got me fired up), and CE is the most challenging of all of them. With the exception of the opening level in Halo2 (which was more ridiculous than difficult) neither of the sequals are overly hard. However CE, is quite the challenge, even on normal for the unitiated.

I miss the CE LAN days, since XBL it's hard to get everyone together, many of us have increased out responsibilities since highschool.

Yeah, what is up with that? I did not enjoy all the backtracking. It got a little repetitive. I guess that's what I get for not playing it when it was fresh and new. The graphics and level design were probably cutting edge.

I hated how enemies were so dumbed down combat wise in Halo 2/3. In Halo: CE it's like the elites actually wanted to stay alive; they'd dodge from side to side, hide behind cover, actually strafe around your cover to try and kill you.

They dumbed it down so more of the Mass Market would pick it up. And unfortunately, moving to a shield-based system and changing enemy AI drastically reduced the challenge leve.

Halo 1 is far superior to Halo 2 and 3. If you can, I would suggest getting some friends into the game and having a Halo 1 LAN party. They are unbelievably fun.

Suck it Red!

Halo: CE's campaign is harder and longer than Halo 3's. Not sure about Halo 2's though. I am almost done with beating the game on heroic by myself and there is a lot of backtracking, especially in Two Betrayals the last level I need to beat on heroic you go back a lot.

Four shots, four kills, reload, repeat. This is the work of a sniper.

I personally didn't know that there were still people in the world that hadn't played Halo: CE yet. It's.... it's just scary. But anyway, yes I still play Halo 1. Actually, to to a break in at my former house, the first Halo is the only one I have anymore. But once I get monies I'll replace my lost 360 and the other 2 Halo games. and then I'll sit down and beat all 3 of them back to back, with the aid of Coke and 89 cent burritos.

Did you mean the drug or Coca Cola? Cuz you don't need no drugs or Coke or ANYTHING when you play halo. Its the best drug ever.

That's why I'm looking forward to ODST. They don't have to worry about Multiplayer. :)

I don't know if I'd get my hopes up because I wouldn't really trust Bungie after H2 and H3. They're games are going to be restricted to rentals. I mean every time I put Halo 3 in my 360 I get a little depressed over how dissapointing it is and how bad it really is.

You'd be surprised by the number of people on the Halo 3 forum that have not played Halo 1. There are tons of people who think they are hard core Halo fans that have never played Halo 1.

True Story!
Halo CE is the only reason why I bought an XBOX and to this day it has never seen another game. These so called self described experts of Halo 3 would have a really tough time playing Halo CE.
