people seriously it is starting to get old with the "reach is halo 4" stuff. Reach happens right before halo 1. Since I'm one the few people that has taken the time to read the halo plot in multiple game guides plus the halo wars timeline I know it's a fact that Reach is a direct prelude. I only post this up here because people need to pay attention to plots and not sound stupid when saying that reach will involve time travel or reach is after halo 3. I do hav more than enough proof. Thanks to all the people who actually pay attention to plots (I'm not flaming anyone)

you are a complete dumbass.

You are right that there isn't any time travel, but since when did GAME GUIDES have ANYTHING to do with story?

Read the books, and then come back.

Also, it is possible that this ISN't a prequel. People instantly see the word reach and assume it follows the book to the letter.

This could be a different story altogether, but takes place (at least in part) at the same time as reach. It may stretch on long before or after The Fall of Reach.

  • 06.18.2009 3:49 PM PDT

"One of the few people" you and every one else. Nobody thinks its Halo 4. Even the stupid time travel theories don't think its Halo 4.

Just because you have read the game guides you think you know everything? How about you read the books first. This doesn't have to be a prequal to Halo: CE. It could take place many years before CE.

I'm quite sure someone high up in Bungie said it was set before the events of Halo: CE, which makes it a prequel. As you say however, it doesn't necessarily follow the book.....

yes, but still, it can still take place alongside in some part or another.

but yeah, I really hope it is a new story. it is backed by the fact that those pictured people are DEFINITELY not spartans, with the exception of maybe the one on the left.

and you therefore have ZERO knowledge on the subject.

the game boxes don't know anything, and the Halo Wars timeline was just "totally" in depth.

Ok, then where is John from, what was his first mission, how many spartans are their, etc....

The main theories in conflict are if the game leads up to the events of the fall of Reach, or if the game is about the fall of Reach.

The Halo wars time line and story isn't accurate.

Thank you for not having to say something like YOUR STUPID IT IS PRETTY ACCURATE. But anyway I will be honest and say I didn't read the books or know much about Halo before CE and its just that I heard it from other people.

still just as useless.

1 paragraph of background story doesn't cover the subject.

You think just because you read a instruction manual that you know everything (or almost everything about) the Halo story.

i agree completely. This game is way more probable to take place DURING AND AFTER HALO 1. The battle of reach lasted only a few hours (two maybe) before the pillar of autumn jumped out of the system, but then continued for days after that.

So more likely, this is going to be at the same time as halo 1 and will NOT follow the events of tFoR, or there wouldn't be any new storytelling

  • 06.18.2009 4:18 PM PDT

the battle lasts i think from early morning to mid morning. not sure of the times dont know where my book is. And also to the OP. Game guides dont tell story and timelines only tell so much. If you dont have adequate knowledge supporting your theory you only sound dumb. time travel is possible, as shown in dead or alive 4 and the I love bees sefment for halo 2s release. Both of which are canon, at least i beilive so. the reach of the halo 3 ending and that of the trialier are before and after, and seeing how its only about half a year i think between the two games it is possible that you could ending up seeing the MC idk i probably ranting now.

hey whatever floats your boat I just think the whole prelude thing seemed obvious anyways I've no officially moved on

Don't get cocky now!

For all we know Bungie will use the books as guidelines. I'm sure they will make up more plotlines and events that weren't in the book for good gameplay's sake and for expanding the story.

One thing is for sure there's probably a lot of references in the book to events that could make other plotlines to expand the store that weren't gone into with much detail.
One such example is when Cortana broke into section 3 files on page 269 of "The Fall of Reach" (paragraph 2).

Look it up and tell me if you think it's an example of opportunity for in game plot that wasnt touched upon in the novel.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the figures in the pic are all spartans... I don't remember a group of 5 Marines or ODST's mentioned in the Fall of Reach who were main characters like Sam, Kelly, John, Fred, and Linda who would match up to the silouttes of that pic. Clearly they're Spartans. If you think otherwise, you're thinking way too hard. Did you also notice the picture laid into the planet like you're standing on Reach? clearly theres covenant cruisers / destroyers in the "sky" in the planet in the background like they're ready to start glassin'.
