He stole it from me.

ok, johnsons been through:
*the first covenant invasion of a planet, managing to bring hundreds of surviovors home
*he fought through halo, the flood.
*managed to make it off halo alive, then make it BACK to earth.
*fought through delta halo
*escaped covenant captivity, then SAVED THE UNIVERSE.
i know he died in the end, but think about it, alot of the UNSC colonels haven't done half that. don't you think sometime in the post-halo 2 era, he would have been promoted, at least once to Lieutenant or something?
And before you say "this has nothing to do with odst!" Johnsons in firefight so suck it!

I used to wonder this too. But I finally came to conclusion that he didn't get promoted because he simply didn't want to be part of the officer ranks. I guess it was because he preferred being in the field kicking ass rather than commanding people to kick ass from a ship.

seh looks like a alen anyway

They did promote him to a Sergeant Major, between H2 and h3.

  • 06.18.2009 7:37 PM PDT

first of all it's sergeant, not sargeant.

i do agree that he should have been general by the time halo 3 started.

  • 06.18.2009 7:38 PM PDT

Noobs can't handle AR/Pistol Spawns.

huh, never thought of that. Either he doesn't want the promotions or command is stupid.

Yeah, but he was a Staff Sergeant from atleast the Battle of Harvest to the First Battle of Earth. That's a long time.

There's always an insult for me:
You lose: You're a bk, bad, etc.
You win: You're a tryhard, cheater.

By being a Sargeant means he was directly in the action.

How many generals at the Pentagon have you seen on the streets in Iraq? or even in the bases?

Listen to Warpigs.

He's also the only human with a chance against the chief...especially since I shot him multiple times in the head with my sniper in halo 2 and he just took it and killed me.

Nice post

It's because "Sergeant Johnson" sounds more badass than "Lieutenant Johnson"

Why does Bungie put us through such avid anticipation?

Hes a sergeant major. Did you know that Sergeant majors command entire ground combat operations?

They didn't promote him because they wanted to win the war. That would be like them making the chief a general.

But he isn't a general.

Sergent Major is actually a high rank for enlisted. The highest, actually. You can deny promotions, which is logical for some, since officers tend to see less action due to their higher "prestige" over others in the military.

What I mean is, that the army would want to save a General, over a Sergent, because of his importance.

ya know, im proud to be an inverted player, its like we're a rare breed or something

Do NOT send me Recruitment Letters, doing so will get you blocked faster than you can say "Huh?"

The Sergeant Major has been through a lot, that is true. However so have the Spartens. if you think about it, it makes perfect sense Johnson is his rank. He is low enough to be ordered around and kept in the field; however he is high enough that he can lead missions and what not.

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

You get medals for kicking ass; not so much promotions.
