Resistance Is Futile...

So I was just on GameStop's website as was looking at the ODST Special Edd. for $99. I wanted to go ahead and preorder it so I can get the reach beta and play as the sarge. So I also didnt want it to ship because didnt feel like waiting. I would rather do store pickup so that it what I chose when I checked out.

It then stated because I am doing in-store pickup that even though I have to give a credit card number online that it will not be charged at all. I have to pay at the store when I pick it up. The only reason they take the credit card number online is if I don't show up to pick up the game then they will charge the card a $5 restock fee.

The Debit Card number I gave them didn't even have a whole dollar on it. (payday in a few days). My bank does not allow transaction's unless money in the bank.. basically they want cover anything. so I know for a FACT they did not charge me one dime. BUT I still preordered it.. I got a order confirmation number and everything. So does game stop normal let you preOrder games without even paying anything on it at all? When I preOrdered Gear of War 2 & Fear2 at BestBuy they made me pay $5 or $10 up front....

Just wanted t make sure this is normal... It just seems like if you really don't have to pay a dime to preorder the game then why the hell wouldn't everyone do it? Especially with the 2 benefits you get for doing it...

Help me out and let me know , Thanks guys...

(KEEP IT CLEAN)

An in-store deposit is used to ensure you come back and pay it off, or else they get your money for making them order a copy. If you've already pre-ordered you can't just not pick it up, as you will lose the deposit. This is why stores encourage (if not enforce) game deposits.

The reason your credit card wasn't charged is because ODST hasn't been released yet.

If you do not pick up your pre-ordered copy of ODST when it comes out (currently slated for the 22nd of September), then they will charge your card $5 to send it back, as you have wasted their time and money in ordering it.

I know if the UK that this is the norm, Over here they dont like charging you till it is released and they have it sending to you, hust incase something goes wrong. They dont like have to refund as it would cost them to do so. Transaction fee (say 0.20) refund fee (0.20) now look at this as at preorder numbers. 0.40 x 4,000 (all numbers are a guess) thats 1,600 they have lost.

I have had it before that when i have preorder something then something has happened and the web site has not been able to conplete the transaction, but due to no money had been taken no refund was needed. And over here they dont normally take a re-stoke fee.

Cool, I just wanted to make sure that I did actually re order it. I defiantly want the invite for reach beta and to play as the sarge.... Didn't want anything to go wrong.. You can bet I will be there right when the store opens, lol

» Sincerely, Dan

It depends on the retailer, but yes your situation sounds normal. Oh the other hand, I went through Best Buy and paid in full ahead of time for a future in-store pickup.
