in the cinematic a few Spartans are heard through the radio.
"this is sierra 320"
"this is sierra 259"

the spartan II's were only numbered up to 150. the spartan -III's on the other hand were numbered in the +300's.
so i believe we will be playing as a spartan III, with the stealth suits and the silenced weapons, maybe bungie decided to make odst a trial to see what stealthy halo would be like so they get feedback before they leap into a new direction.

any thoughts?

Loyalty is all I have.

probably not. Just saying its far more likely that we are playing as a second wave of Spartan II's than III's. Just because they're not as popular or well known. Plus there were no Spartan III's at Reach ( that we know of)

Spartan-IIIs have a letter in addition to a three-digit call number, i.e. Ash-G099.

No, S-IIIs have different numbering schemes. They would have been Sierra-G320 Sierra-G259 (G stands for Gamma Company). However, I do think we may see some S-IIIs in REACH.

If you remember right, in 2531, Kurt is kidnapped after ONI fakes damage done to his jetpack when he nears an FTL generator. He jettisons into space, away from Blue Team, and is later recovered by Circumference, an ONI vessel that is most likely used to transport S-IIIs, or simply to scout out areas for their future attacks.

After the Gammas graduate, it is quite apparent that Kurt disproves of putting the children through any type of pain via augmentations, he even went against Ackerson's orders for what to apply a few times. He is told that the Deltas' training is put on hold indefinitely, and then Onyx is attacked late October.

Reach falls in early September, around the time that the Gammas would have been graduating, or nearing their graduation. If Ackerson wanted to train the Deltas with his own specifications in mind, he may have scrubbed Kurt as the trainer.

Ackerson had knowledge of the Cote d'Azure crystal, which had coordinates to Reach. The Covenant would soon find the world, so Ackerson may have figured to take advantage of this horrible situation. Do you know how he acquired S-IIIs? He took child-refugees from glassed worlds, and their anger at their loss helped get them through their training.

Blue Team in 2552 was sent from the Pillar of Autumn to Gamma Station, to destroy a nav database on Circumference. That ship again? Maybe it was at Reach to pick up candidates for the S-III Deltas, or to transport the Gammas on their mission, possibly one like the Pillar of Autumn's (to capture a Prophet), since they were both leaving from Reach.

Why do I think James was kidnapped? His disappearance is very similar to Kurts' as James was a unique Spartan like Kurt (Kurt saw bad things coming, James never gave up.) and they were both set off into space by a malfunction with their jetpack near the Circumference.

James' jetpack was shot by a Needler round, but its possible that ONI planned on this as a cover for a remote malfunction, like the FTL generator was for Kurt's malfunction.

If the Gammas already graduated and were on Reach readying for their mission, when Gamma Station was overrun, they may have gotten stuck on the planet.

Either way, I think that something is going on since the two Spartans went MIA near the Circumference.

James' dissappearance may have been similar to Kurt's but James was in a combat situation, not a recon one. Also I'm not even sure if SIII's would have been on Reach seeing as most died trying to capture that Covenant factory in Ghosts Of Onyx, yet more died on Onyx and the rest (as far as i am aware) were placed in the Shield World...I mean there may have been mored made but i'm not entirely sure, my memory is a little fuzzy.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

There were 330 Gammas, 15 remained on Onyx to train, 315 shipped out some time earlier after graduating, probably on their mission.

Do note that Ackerson hates the S-II program...why should he send his S-III's to Reach to help the S-II's + in one of the books can't remember which he said: Reach is Gone! everyone is dead!
So I don't think that we'll see any S-III's

$.50 in store credit.

I saw an IGN video anout Readh and the guy said that the Halo books mentioned a second wave of Spartan IIs that you never learned much about. This could be them.

There are three known classes of Spartan-IIIs, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. They're letters of the Greek alphabet, not the NATO phonetic alphabet.

The only mention made in the books about a second wave of Spartans II is that Dr. Hasley stopped the program.
