Brilliant! Make 2 versions.. 1 for those who dont have live and one for those who do. 1 version has 1 disc with campaign, firefight, and code for maps for $40 or something.. and the other has everything for $60. ITS SETTLED!

Anyone who argues against that is a blind fanboy.

That's a perfect idea.

Yeah. It's too late for that. Even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be cost-effective at all.

But we need 2 versions.. one with one disc (campaign + firefight + dlc code for maps) and one with 2 discs with everything

You seem to be missing a huge point. This is the next Halo game. People and their dumb moms and parents and EVERYONE is going to buy this. creating two different versions, one with HALF the content, would be a very bad idea and just be sad for all the people who recieve the -blam!-ed down version from relatives or people who buy it on accident and find out later, and also for people who dont have xblive, they wont get the 3 new maps.

AND, they'd have to also make a third limited edition. Talk about even more confusing for all the people who dont regularily follow such things.

Not to mention people like me who beat the crap out of Halo 3 single player at friends house but dont actually own the game... dont say its all besides the point, because it IS THE POINT. You either buy it as it is, or be left out of the ODST fun.

Just cough up 60 bucks. Most people seem perfectly willing to.

And what purpose does that serve? Is the Halo 3 disc you have now, not the exact same thing as the bonus disc that comes with ODST? And.. helmet? Really?
The New Halo 3 disc does not bring a code like Halo Wars, it has all the maps installed into the game. Only thing it doesn't bring is Halo 3 campaign. It's more useful for people who have messed up Halo 3 disc and need another one.

I might need that disc. Kinda low on memory, was it 1.8GB left? Anyway I can delete the maps and get some Bytes back for other things *wink wink*

PPPPPP--POWER!

Personally I think having two discs is going to be nice, especially for those of us who do not have constant access to XBL. Now I can finally get my hands on all of the maps that have been released for Halo 3 to date.

Ahh I love it. I love the posts that say the exact same thing as someone else on a previous page.. i.e. telling me the maps are on the disc and not a code to dl. I know. I know. I know. We all know. So.. yeah.. ANYWAYS.. The 2 version thing seems to be the best idea. And to the guy who said most people in here disagree with me.. OF COURSE THEY DO. The people who agree with me dont get on here and argue about it. Most people on here want an argument.. I provide a means to an end. So keep it goin..

The best thing we can hope for is a price drop at this point.. were still 3 months out. If thats not enough time to create 2 versions (which essentially means.. take 1 disc out of the 2 disc set) then I dont know what is.

you're doing the same thing. 1 vs many. many tends to be right. The 2 version thing seems to be the best idea. yes. for the consumer. when you make a product, you need to make money. not lose money on your own dang product. it isn't happening. get over it. And to the guy who said most people in here disagree with me.. OF COURSE THEY DO. The people who agree with me dont get on here and argue about it. Most people on here want an argument.. no. you keep it going. you have gotten your answer many times by many sources. and you STILL deny the correctness of them, as well as say some other stupid things, just to keep this flame war going. there are MANY times this could have eneded. Hell, it should have ended. and yet you just keep bumping it back to the top, just to keep your flame war going. even after people have answered your question.
don't like it, whine to MS. not us, not Bungie. we're two parties that can't do jack about it. MS can. but won't
don't buy it, or get the hell over it.

Do NOT send me Recruitment Letters, doing so will get you blocked faster than you can say "Huh?"

There are people who don't own Halo 3. The disc is just an add on that lets everyone experince multilayer instead of only those who bought Halo 3.

How many people do you think that are going to buy ODST dont already own Halo 3. I want an estimate here.. 3.. maybe 4 people?

Unlike the general concensus that there appears to be here, I completely agree with the OP. However, it's not really buying the same thing that irks me as much as having to switch discs whenever I want to switch to Campaign or Multiplayer. Plus, the original Halo 3 disc will have everything except for the 3 new Mythic Maps (Longshore, Heretic, etc), thus making the original Halo 3 multiplayer obsolete. I've also been wondering if all of our Forged maps will carry over to the ODST multiplayer disc (which isn't likely).

Sounds good, but the problem with that is getting Microsoft to go through with it, which is very unlikely...

I believe that it's a very smart idea on Bungie's Behalf. If you have scratched disk or you just lost your disk and weep everyday over it, then you have a brand spanking new one waiting for you in ODST.

But what about the people that ACTUALLY TAKE CARE OF THEIR DISCS???

  • 06.19.2009 6:41 PM PDT

You seem to be assuming that the second disc is what is driving up the cost. Microsoft is who determined the high price of the ODST. The actual adding of a second disc probably only added a negligible amount to the production cost.

Like I said, it's not even the price that's ticking me off, it's these points:

- We have to switch discs when we want to play either Campaign or Matchmaking
- You will NOT be able to get the 3 new Mythic Maps (Longshore, Heretic, etc) onto your original Halo 3 disc
- The above point makes the original Halo 3 disc obsolete unless you want to play Campaign, as you will not have all the required maps for Matchmaking
- Your forged maps from the original Halo 3 disc WILL NOT BE ON THE MULTIPLAYER ODST DISC!!!

OP, if you and I are on the same page here, you should put this list in the Topic Post.

Know what? Halo 3 ODST looks like an $80 game with only Campaign and Firefight to me. The fact that it has Halo 3's full multiplayer experience for a lower price means we're truly loved.

Shut up and dish out the cash. If you can't afford it, your money should go to something better than a video game (food, bills, etc.).

Agreed. 2 versions. 1 for those who dont own Halo 3 (or theirs is broken/scratched) and a second version with just the campaign/firefight/maps.. both priced accordingly.
