Because it makes them feel better about paying $60 for a game worth $30-$40.

I could not have said it better my friend.

True Underdog you have some good points, but I feel that you have missed an important thing. Is the game itself worth 60$?

Well you said that the open world campaign and Firefight have plenty of replay value. Not taking the fact that you haven't played the game into consideration, I'm going to disagree with that one. I don't think that an open world game will lure in the current halo population. The current halo 3 gamers want a challenge. Since the game is based on the same engine, the characters have the same AI. For example, the brutes are still going to rampage when they lose their armor, and they are going to jump from side to side when confronted. Yes, we do have less health and we're more vulnerable, but taking out the AI isn't going to change. How you take your approach is what's going to change, which isn't much.

I predict that most current halo 3 gamers aren't going to be attracted by this open world campaign for reply value. They want to play smart people (other gamers) for a challenge. They also want ranks, not some meta game that gives you points for every kill you take.
I'm trying to not turn this into a thread about the price, which it seems like you are very well doing.

Please stick to the three points I listed:
Unlocking Recon
Halo Reach Beta
Unlocking Johnson

*Luaghs* You caught me! And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids.
I just don't want this to turn into a flame war, like all the other threads have been.

Recon armor was not gifted or bestowed upon me. I earned it through blood, sweat, and tears. Road to Recon complete, on to the next challenge. Halo 3: 1750/1750, ODST: 1000/1000, Reach: 1400/1400.

When they say ODST has been turned into a full game I'm assuming it has no less than an 8 hour champaign. I hear from so many people on the Xbox forums that they haven't really expaneded the champaign from the original 5 hour seperate expansion length that I'm kinda wondering if it's true or not, and MS is just upping the price due to all the other stuff their throwing in as well.

It's more for the second disc, I think.

You're all basically getting Johnson for free by putting down $5 ahead of time.
So, I don't think that even factors into any sort of pricing issue.

People still try to add that in though. Like you get all of this and Johnson.

I want my steaks Luke...

You are indeed right... those reasons are completely moronic and unreasonable.
No one realizes that they are adding all the extras in so they can sell it as a normal game.
When I say extras though, I and Bungie aren't referring to the skins, or recon, or the reach beta.

If no one realizes ODST is a complete game yet, they should shut up and leave the forums for good. ODST has everything a normal game does. It has an entirely new story, theater mode, and it has an extra survival mode thats completely new to the Halo series. They even included a whole disk dedicated to halo 3's multiplayer, matchmaking, and forge... Halo 3 ODST has more content then Halo 3 had itself.

People need to grow up and realize that it is most certainly a game, and just as any game, it has the basic $60 price tag... and if they don't like it, who says they have to buy it?

But in all seriousness towards the topic, people are taking everything the wrong way. Bungie is simply putting all these tidbits of the game you mentioned out in the spotlight so more gamers will become interested and buy ODST.

What happened is that all these things got on the wrong side of the public view and detracted attention away from the whole package. So now we basically have fools running all over the forums thinking they'll be paying 30 to 40 dollars extra because of some gimmick...

Your all wrong. It turns out if you pre-order a controller you get Halo:Reach and an invitation to the Halo 3: ODST beta, and a collectors edition Johnson cigar.

Well they don't need to mention the fact that it's a game by itself. It also come withmabey 15-23 dollars worth of maps theres a lot of reasons and if your talking about LE then its the discounted controller

My ROFLsniper goes POW!

Why are so many people whining about the price. thats a great price. it basicly includes 2.5 games. im thrilled that its only 60$ if bungie was as greedy as most game makers they would have made it 80$ considering the huge amount of content that it comes with. A new campaign/firefight, Reach beta, and halo 3 multiplayer + 10$ worth of maps. so i think the price is awesome no matter what some people say. =] And besides they need to make at least a small prophit. do you think theyre gonna just give it out for 20 bucks when they put 2 discs plus a load of other stuff? that would just be stupid. they contribute enormously to their fans in the first place. they gotta think about themselves to!

I guess that's a nice way of putting all of those things; a gimmick.

If you had read the original post, then you would know this is in know way about the price of the game. And the Reach Beta is worthless so you can't "add that in" (name of the thread, if you hadn't been lazy and read it you would know that) to the overall price of ODST.

At the end of the day, any object in the world is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Life lesson learned So if people think that these 'gimmicks' are worth paying for, then I don't see why they can't use them to justify THEIR PURCHASE.
