For years we have had the same difficulty for all Halo games: Easy, Normal, Heroic, Legendary. When Halo 3 came legendary difficulty was drastically lowered. I don't know if it was because of new achievements or what but what I'd like to see in Halo: Reach is not only a new and improved legendary mode but a realistic mode. By realistic I mean that damage is realistic to the weapons been used. For ex. plasma weapons could kill in a few hits depending on which part of the body they come in contact with. The damage would be realistic for not only the player but for all AI's but if skulls were added on it could increase the difficulty for the player or players. I made the poll to see what you guys think about this. Please, feel free to improve or change what I made and please don't flame others for their opinions.

I think the reason Legendary may have been less difficult is because of the added difficulty the skulls added.

if you want realistic, then your soldier would die after one hit with a plasma weapon.

And if not DIE, then black out and slip into shock.

I said realistic damage, nothing about realistic reactions which I don't see Bungie doing any time soon (any game for that matter).

Mythical Group

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

I think this would be pretty cool of an idea, actually. I mean, we'd still have shield and abnormal weapons, but, more realistic. lol

So you get shot in the leg and you're limping around for the rest of the game?

I would honestly hate an idea like this.

If you think surviving getting shot with plasma is realistic, you don't know the definition of the word.

To some degree you have to pick how resistant and unrealistic a game would be. Bungie's done a great job so far.

I think you should re-read my OP and look a the part where I mention Getting shot in certain areas depends if you die or not or how much damage you take. Again I don't see Bungie adding in realistic reactions for the player anytime soon. Maybe the AI's.
And I don't mean make the whole game realistic just make a new realistic difficulty for campaign.

Fav. Games: Halo, Marathon, Gears of War, Guitar Hero, CoD4, Rockband, Super Smash Bros(all 3), Legend of Zelda, and alot more that isn't right off the top of my head. ^-^

The gameplay works already........why fix it?

Play G.R.A.W. or CoD is you want a more realistic type of shooter. I want my super human cyborgs(I know, they arn't really cyborgs, I read the books) indestructible thank you very much.

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

Most Bungie members agree that Heroic is the most halo-realistic.

I disagree, because Legendary seems to come closest to the difficulty mentioned in the novels. I do remember the Master Chief struggling against a single black elite on the bridge of a covenant ship. This is only a small example of how difficult the game can actually be. You are a super soldier, not an invincible soldier.

As for the realistic setting, I believe the reason Legendary seems dumbed down, is yes because of the skulls, but also because of the addition of four player co-op. Not to mention, the realism you are asking for is present in how the plasma weapons already works. The only difference between the novels and the game is that once the shield is depleted you are not as resistant to plasma fire as you are in the game. James, anyone?

I think the game difficulty is fine as is.

I get where what you guys are getting at but I think a realistic difficulty would be great and challenging, plus in co-op your team would have to keep on their toes so they don't die and maybe funnier situations would happen while running for your in-game life. Though I don't see Bungie adding this, I think it would be a fun, new experience to have.

*Silloin kun näyttää siltä että ei ole mitään hätää niin tulee hälytyskellojen soida
*Neuvostoliiton hajoaminen oli vain showta
*Saksa on löytänyt uuden tavan vallata Eurooppa ilman yhtäkään panssarivaunua

The problem is that a game can never be too hard for everyone.

I know, but they could still up the difficulty so it isn't so easy. If they would've done that for H3 they wouldn't have needed some of their skulls and could've made them have a different effect.

  • 06.19.2009 2:42 PM PDT

I don't think it will happen. Bungie likes their skull idea too much.

  • 06.19.2009 2:44 PM PDT

Wait, you actually checked this?

Will you be my friend?

For a realistic difficulty, it will depend on who/what we play as. If we play as Spartans, it'll depend on whether or not we play in the suits that have shielding or not. If we do have shields, how much they hold up against will be really up to Bungie, as the books are never really consistent on how much damage a shield can take before failing. The Flood has Chief's shields being drained completely from one or two hits from a plasma rifle, whereas others have the shields taking a fair amount of damage.

A good area to put the shields would be 7-8, maybe even up to 10 hits from a plasma rifle. This may sound like a lot to some hardcore players out there, but you have to remember that you rarely face just a single, plasma-weapon-wielding enemy.

Also it would come down to how much work they put onto hit registration, mainly whether or not a shot hits the armor or the kevlar-ish underlayer. The armor itself (MJOLNIR, not SPI) can take a beating from plasma, it's the underlayer that can't stand up to it. On the upside, a realistic setting would make the Chief and pretty much any Spartan-II nigh impervious to human small-arms.

Maybe on the higher difficulties there could be fall damage. I also want to see the AI get really smart and use team strategies. Use equipment intelligently. I really want the AI to get smarter not stronger when I play single player games.
