Subject: Random Speculation

I'm not sure why I'm posting this but just seemed interesting. Near the star of the trailer you see this:
Before

And near the end you see what seems to be a star...but what if that is just whatever is in the first pic blowing up or getting destroyed which means Reach doesn't have an orange sun and it COULD be the planet at the Legendary ending of Halo 3. (Not saying it is) Here is the star/explosion:
After

Remember this is just a speculation and most likely not true. Just thought I would point it out.

Can you tell me the theory?

  • 06.19.2009 2:31 PM PDT

"We sleep peaceably in our beds, because rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those that wish to do us harm."

"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of all those who threaten them."

I don't think so. Looking at the Second picture you can see some sort of blue nebula above the red/orange star in the first one you can't.

Well of course you can't see it the picture after is zoomed out a lot so you can see above it but on the first it is zoomed right in so you can't see that far above it.

There was a popular theory out there that Master Chief ends up at the Marathon planet in that cut scene which is where the old Marathon game picks up.

I never played Marathon but im much more inclined to believe that theory than any of these crackpot time travel theories. The evidence against time travel vastly outweighs the sketchy speculation people keep using to support it.

  • 06.19.2009 2:47 PM PDT

I don't believe the whole time travel thing either. I'm just saying the planet COULD be reach on the legendary ending because one of the things against the whole idea was the orange star.

I still dont think it could be Reach because Reach is supposed to be one of the inner core human worlds. Its a stronghold defensive point for Earth. At the end of Halo 3, Cortana tells Chief that it will take a long time for their distress signal to reach anyone. That and the fact that they didnt quite make it through the portal and were left behind.

Colors in a teaser trailer are no match for solid storyline evidence.

Except that Marathon happened way after 2552/3 so your theory would involve time travel too.

and also Maby that Chief is the Cyborg in Marathon!

No sarcasim there!

The Marathon theory isn't my theory lol. I never played that game. I was just explaining what I heard of it on the forums.

I'm just gonna leave it that Bungie created the Halo 3 Legendary scene as a way to keep Master Chief in their back pocket to whip out for future stories. Time travel into the past to a point where there was already a Master Chief is just too weird and complicated. It doesn't fit Bungies MO.

That's not called time travel, thats called progression. He IS frozen after all. And Cortana's 7 year lifespan would be up, explaining her disappearance.

Eric Nylund (author of most of the Halo books) made it so that the complexity of A.I. would continually expand as they learn more and more. Eventually they become too complex and essentially go insane with a form of computers Alzheimer's disease.

In my opinion, that's why she was so sad at the end of Halo 3, she knew that she would die before he awoke.

Woohoo quote tree. Anyway, someone referenced an interview in another thread about how Nylund's works are canon (part of the official Halo story) but small details may still be changed by Bungie. Things like the fact that theres a battle for Reach and the planet is "glassed" are solid. However, details like Chiefs immunity to Flood infection (in the books) may be changed in the games.

This means that for now, the life span of A.I. is true, but is subject to change by Bungie if they feel like it.

Don't give up hope. :]
