I think dual wielding needs to be removed. It has left us with a bunch of crappy half weapons. Why do we need a bunch of half weapons when we spawn with a good weapon. The range on all of the dual wieldable weapons in pathetic too. I think it has destroyed most of the weapons in the game. In Halo: Combat Evolved you could kill someone with the Plasma Pistol by just shooting and the plasma weapons were worth using for something other than a shield drainer.

If you think it should stay give a reason why.

For anyone who disagrees, I ask you to do one thing. Go play Halo 2, with the dualwieldable Needler. Then go play H3 and see how much better the Needler got when they removed the dual wielding function. DW breaks a weapon sandbox... anything that is dual wieldable becomes spray-and-pray halfguns which can't shoot farther than you can spit.

While I am quite fond of the Plasma Rifle/SMG combo. I will agree that there doesn't need to be DWable weapons in Reach. Hell, ODST has dropped DWing so it wouldn't be completely out of line to say that it's possible this will be the same for Reach.

Can anyone explain why dual wielding should stay?

I watch this on loop when I'm bored.

It gives us the option if we want to dual wield or not.

Dual wielding can be very effective if used correctly, although Bungie still needs to get the balancing right as they completely nerfed the Spiker in the gap between the beta and the full game and the SMG is too strong.

But if it's a feature in the game, we don't have an option of the weapon not being a half-gun. In order for DW to be added, weapons need to be mad half as effective as they would be if single-wieldable. Compare the H2 Needler compared to the H1 or H3 Needler. Now do the same for all dual wieldable weapons and their single wieldable counterparts in Halo 1...

Brace for carnage, sweet sweet halo carnage :)

heck no. I love duel wielding and it allows me to mix things up a bit when i play.

  • 06.19.2009 4:21 PM PDT

Yes if they aent going to bother fixing it because it is worthless doing now and just pollutes the game with crappy weapons that are crappier then the weapon you spawn with even when they are dual wielded.

Like i said, Bungie needs to get the balancing right.

BTW, the H3 Needler is overpowered, it only takes 9 needles to make them asplode.

It doesn't give us an option to do it or not, we have to do it or we can only use a quarter of the guns. Half the weapons in the game have been severely nerfed for the sake of "OMG I haz two guns it looks kewl!!!!". It was much better when all guns had their own uses. Most guns now only are good for using with another gun. The range of all weapons has been lowered, grenades aren't so important and melee is overused.

The only way to balance it right while still allowing the option of dual wielding would be to make everything as strong as they were in H1, but when you pick up a second gun, their power is cut in half. And that's not very realistic... but it would sure be better than the dual wielding in H2/3.

I don't consider the H3 Needler overpowered because you can outstrafe it. Maybe they could make it shoot slower, or make the needle shards much bigger and darker, so you can out-strafe it easier.

Do you have a gun pointed at your head when your holding an SMG or something? Then no, you are not forced to dual wield, it's your choice.

The SMG is a very effective weapon and can easily outgun an AR at close range.

I guess that would be a decent compromise. Then I could actually use the Plasma Rifle/Pistol like they were weapons and people would still have their crappy dualwield combos.

Dual wielding didn't break the game. It just gives a player a different way to play the game. You don't have to pick up the weapons. Get the gun you want and use it. Oh noes my BRs gones?! God forbid I have to find another weapon and learn to use it effectively! I want my 3 shot pistol!!!! Not this, pick up a plasma rifle and dual wield with a pistol crap. :/

Can DW be in Reach because of canon, though? That is the question. I say no, so dual wielder haters rejoice! lol

The Halo 3 BR took the purpose out of all other weapons, you spawn with a weapon that is overall better than all the others. I mean you can kill someone faster with a BR than with a machine gun. Seriously wtf? Bungie should make the BR a bit weaker. It's my favorite weapon and all, but I mean it takes the purpose out of all the other weapons.
Or they could remove dual wielding and make everything more powerful, so that the BR only trumps everything else if the user has more skill with it.

I don't care about the BR or pistol dualwielding is just a crappy gameplay element. Bungie said they think Halo is about melee, guns and grenades. With dual wielding you turn the game into guns guns and guns.

  • 06.19.2009 5:04 PM PDT

BR only. Problem solved. :)

Edit: To Insane Brandon, that might have been the case in H2, but in H3 do you honestly see a lot of people dual wielding?

Even if the BR is toned down it will still dominate because of everything else being half a gun with the range of a pencil sharpener.

Don't even bring the Needler into this. It was ok in Halo CE. Then too weak in Halo 2 and you needed to dual wield it. Then people complained about it being too weak and Bungie brought up its power WAAAY too much in Halo 3. You only have to shoot like 3 needles and theres an explosion. Really cheap.
