Subject: Do us a favor Bungie. Halo:Reach BETA

DON'T LISTEN TO COMPLAINTS! Only listen to things like bugs in the game. The Halo 3 Beta was perfect but you listened to the outcry of dorks who wanted the tripmine to be like a teddy bear. Bungie when I get into a warthog and a tripmine is under it TURN IT INTO A TEDDY BEAR PLEASE! The beta for Halo 3 was awesome but all the bad kids came on Bungie and complained about every little thing that made them die. OMG the Spikers are toooo powerful OMG the needler is toooo powerful OMG the SMG is toooo Powerful OMG the "insert every weapon in the game" is tooooo powerful.

Don't use this Beta to get feedback for game tweaks you "Bungie" the developer can make a really good game if you don't look to Beta Feedback. We aren't the developers Bungie.... You are.

True to a certain extent. I preferred the Beta spartan laser more, the power drain was much more intimidating, and so was the trip mine.

However, I believe that Bungie should pay attention to it's fans. If a significant enough number of them believe that a certain gameplay mechanic should be tweaked, Bungie is most probably going to consider tweaking it to please the fans, and make the game more enjoyable.

Good things have come from fans asking for change. There was this thread on the in game field of vision having a too small angle in Halo 2, and people requested that Bungie increased the field of vision, which they did, and I find it much better. The needler was also improved on quite alot, which made it better, so was the plasma pistol, which was changed so that the 'noob combo' would stop being used too frequently.

I feel that even though the main purpose of a large scale Beta is to test if the servers can take such a load and if matchmaking can function properly, another positive side effect of a public beta is that you let your potential customers have a look at the game and give feedback on it, and allow you to improve your game.

I was mainly upset about the tripmine. I was barely ever killed because of it. It was easy to hear and it was perfect that it killed instead of just damaging. Nothing is better than placing a min then about 2 min. later you're respawning from a death and medals start popping up TRIPLE KILL!

But that's what a mine is supposed to do: blow the heck out of whatever steps on it.

meh. Never really liked the H3 beta. I spent all my time invulnerability grenade bouncing around the outside of Valhalla, trying to findd safe spots that guardians cant get to.

The Spartan laser was on the beta?

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

They should have polls in the 'The Voting Booth' forum.

I never played the Halo 3 beta but I remember one of the vid docs talking about the trip mine being this awesome tool of destruction that could stick to vehicles and it being a great last resort weapon if you saw a warthog or something speeding at you, throwing it last second, and taking you both out. And then when I played the game it didn't do any of that.

  • 06.20.2009 10:58 AM PDT

Perception is everything.

HEY! I would love to have an exploding teddy bear thank you...but yes on the power of the beta tripmine.

The changed the trip mine's power later before releasing the game. In the beta it would kill anything that ran over it.

I remember that as well. It was CLASSIC. The trip mine made me PUMPED! Now it isn't even on Valhalla I don't think.

Hi, I'm your average gamer, I'm far too retarded to see the orange glowing Warthog. Its not fair I should have to use my eyes in a FPS to survive, remove the tripmine its too strong.

  • 06.20.2009 12:45 PM PDT

What spectagon are you in?

yes,yes and yes. Beta trip mine FTW.

  • 06.20.2009 12:52 PM PDT

Disclaimer: I have never played the Halo 3 Beta, please don't yell at me if I use evidence from what I have heard from people.

...Perhaps do you think that they nerfed the trip mine because they didn't want it to be used as a short range rocket launcher? I don't know about you guys, but on Rat's nest I never use the tripmine to kill vehicles, I carry it with me as a short ranged grenade that can travel through bubble shields and destroy shields of pursuers around corners. Killing their shields is enough, but if it was and instant kill, it would be pretty powerful.

It was very much useful. It was perfect. It was louder (i think) so if you were dumb enough to not hear it you deserved to die. I would never use it to suicide in front of a warthog like in the one video (Halo 3 Multiplayer Vidoc I believe). You have to look at it both ways to if you drop a mine down don't you want the kill if someone runs it over? I know if you're the "runner overer" you don't wanna die but hey you should have watched out.

And to everyone else this thread isn't about how awesome the Beta tripmine was it's about Bungie not listening to the nubcakes of the community to make things super weak. I hate how long some weapons take to kill stuff.

Halo 2 was way more frantic and fast paced because the weapons killed easier. I hope to see a good balance of competitive and fast paced action in Reach and I don't want it ruined by people that get dominated in the Beta then come on b.net and complain that the weapons are toooo good. Everyone and their mom have played Halo by now so we all know the controls Bungie needs to turn down the noob friendliness in Reach.

The Carbine in the beta was overpowered. It was a death machine of amazing talent. The tripmine was possibly one of the most fun things ever so I'll totally agree on that end. I didn't care that I got betrayals, and I didn't care when I was betrayed it was just funny and entertaining.

  • 06.20.2009 7:07 PM PDT

Throwing the tripmine where the other team's mancannon shot to was great. =D

Interesting, I don't recall anybody wanting the tripmine to be a stuffed animal. Interesting.

  • 06.20.2009 8:23 PM PDT

Confound these ponies, they drive me to insomnia.

Also, Applejack ftw.

He meant that as a joke to the power of it.

It shouldn't take twenty tripmines to kill a tank. No, really. I did tests. I'd like to see the plasma pistol become a weapon again. and have the charge shots actually KILL.
But, yeah. Bungie should just listen to the bugs. From what I hear, the beta was how halo shouldhave been.
