there are only 3 confirmed Spartan-II's still alive, other than John (MC)
Kelly, Linda and Fred.
However, I do believe that there will be at least one more introduced to be alive at some point in reach, because neither of those three survivors ever hung solo with four marines. (The Banner) As far as the book goes, there seem to be about 10-14 Spartans that we know nothing about on Reach. We assume that they are dead because they were sent to protect the generators that gave power to the Orbital MAC cannons protecting Reach. As we jknow, the generators got destroyed, and this eventually led to the fall of Reach. We dont know for sure exactly what happened to them and for all we know they could still be alive.
Also there has been wide speculation about there being another class of Spartan IIs. As improbable as this might be, you cant really shoot the theory down because it could be done. Finally you get the Spartan IIIs from Gamma company that we know nothing about.
The games contradict all the other sources... or most of the, I would forget about the books at least don't get surprised if the story is different, personally I hope so... If they make a game of already maked story, the game would be boring....The games don't contradict the novels and vice versa. Bungie practically wrote the Halo novels, why would they not be considered canon?
I'm just saying, they will change the story, I HOPE !!!
(and yes some things on the book are never mentioned in the games, is like they don't exist, like the other spartans... John is not the only one alive, but in the game he is the LAST SPARTAN.... so, the games and the books are different)
