Subject: Why should it follow the book?

Something I have seen is that people want the story for this game to follow the story in the book.

I personally do not agree. Sure, the story will be like the books, but why should Bungie restrict themselves to a book?

This game is the greatest oppurtinity for them to make the best game ever. We as fans should not badger them to follow a book. Quite the opposite. We should encourage them to be as creative as possible.

Sincerely,
Inkognito.

Eh, the opening could be like the book (as told by Cheehwawa in his unofficial Halo: Reach story) and then follow a completely different story. Peace.

I'm sure they have ways of creating new and interesting experiences. It will be set in the same time as the book, but you most certainetly won't be a member of any the spartans you hear about. There were originally 150 spartans in the program. The Sierra numbers we hear are both higher than 150, so its impossible that those spartans are from the same batch as the original spartan IIs.

and how!

It should stick to the canon created by the books and other games, but it should not follow the story of Master Chief. It should follow the 12 or so Spartans that were on Reach that we know nothing about other than they supposedly died defending the Generators.

As far as I know, it follows the Reach's downfall, something that hasn't fully been explored in any book.

I don't think anyone is asking Bungie to recreate the book for the campaign in this game.

Most people expect Bungie to expand on the events detailed in the book. Remember that the events in the books and the events in the games all follow the Halo Bible, which is the source of all canonical information in the Halo universe. The books are referenced here as a source of information when people attempt to speculate on the mysteries surrounding the new game.

You are misinterpreting the discussions around here if you believe that people want or expect Halo: Reach to be a retelling of the events in The Fall of Reach. The fact is that the events in the book are canon and the game will not contradict those details. More than likely, though, the game will involve us in deferent events than the book.
