Disclaimer: Okay, if you guys do not want to read the entire OP, please, at least read the very last quote box.

This is kind of a FAQ thread. My reasons are NOT in itallics.

You could make it easy for yourself by spawning a bunch of weapons boxes, etc.
Does it really matter? After all, it is a custom game, and nobody will respect someone who cheats to get to level 10000.

The AI have set paths and you could block them
From the pictures I have seen, enemies are dropped off by phantoms. This means that we cannot stop them from entering the level. And unnlike zombie mode, these enemies have weapons and can shoot you from a distance.

About the AI paths, they do not need to have set paths, all they need is a code that gives them this command:

Find the player, and kill them while avoiding obstacles

While I am no programmer, I do know that this type of coding is possible and has been done in other games for campaign, etc.

What is the point? Why not just wait for a DLC
The point is to allow us to altar our enviroments a little so we can a different experience every time we play the game. Sure, it doesn't beat getting a whole new map, but it at least helps us not to get bored while we wait for Bungie to design, test, and release DLC.

Basically, this will just increase the playability of ODST fire fight.
People could cheat to get fire fight related achievements
Not if Bungie makes it impossible to get achievements while in a custom game....

This is the most important thing
People will block off the AI, and cheat

As stated in the first reason, this is a CUSTOM GAME. Why does it matter what people do in a custom game? It is their problem if they want to ruin the game for themselves, not our, and not Bungies.

My very first reason kind of makes that statement null and void.

Sorry.

I had a "If you could Forge a Firefight map..." thread, and everybody just said they would put boxes where the Phantom dropped the Covenant off. =S

  • 06.20.2009 1:36 PM PDT

~~Christian

it would also take the fun out of firefight.... since there would be no surprises in the covy spawning

Thank you sir, that was an epic rendition of this topic.

and how!

It would be fun for a little while, but it would remove the challenge of it.

Not to mention that Forge is not available on the ODST disc, but only on the Halo 3 disc included in the case.

  • 06.20.2009 1:39 PM PDT

I think the idea would work.

Maybe they could make spawn areas blocked off by an unremovable box that never spawns? People could still make a wall around it, though.

Forge would be fun, but it would be so easily abused.

Your wasting you're time you could be doing something else besides reading my signature...

Yes we should be able to make custom firefights, and it wouldn't be tracked for score.
I can see how it's good and bad though to allow it.

  • 06.20.2009 1:40 PM PDT

You guys aren't getting the point:

Short of making it really easy for yourself, you just altar you enirovment

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

I was thinking about this but I dont think so. You could just build a huge wall where you spawn with just enough space to see and shoot through. The enemy AI would not be good enough to consistently shoot through tiny gaps with that sort of accuracy.

I did read your whole post.

And there are some good things about it.
You could spawn more weapons, turrets, move -blam!- around to benefit yourself, spawn a few walls but that's about it. If you add to much you over power the enemy and completely change the way the game was meant to be played. Yes you could spawn a tank and see how long your squad could protect it and survive. You could build a little house/ armory and protect it with turrets and other types of defenses and see how long your group can hold out. Or you could even construct a giant tower and laugh as the covenant try to jump up and hopelessly attack you while you shoot RPG's down upon them.

Yes it would all be fun.
But then people would start building block off maps for easy kills and so on and so forth.

  • 06.20.2009 1:55 PM PDT

And this is allowing the game to be just that, a game.

What do easy kills matter if they are done in a custom game and on a cheat map? Nobody will respect the person so it is their loss.

And it will get them no where since they cannot unlock achievements or benefit in any way other than just killing for a long time.

Mmmmm, Cheese....

Me if there was forge I would just make some towers, so the ai is practically assaulting your tower!

Sounds like a bunch of Justin Bieber wannabes in here. I bet you all wear skinny jeans too.

Bungie has already stated that quite a hefty amount of achievements are in Firefight, so honestly I think it would be a horrendous idea.

If you have read my OP, then you would see that achievments would not be availabe on forged maps.

The reason it is important that they didn't block the AI off is that achievements are linked to FireFight, and people would start using forge objects to cheat for achievements, and cheating is against the rules, no matter what for.

Bottom line, Forge is confirmed not to be in FireFight.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME GROUP INVITATIONS

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

It won't be available for ODST, but maybe REACH. There should be two types of firefight --

Public (matchmaking, default, adds to your stats)
Private (like custom games, can tweak gameplay, and forge gameplay. does not add to stats)

I've been playing Halo since 2002. My earliest memories include hiding at the shotgun window on Damnation and killing my dad with grenades while playing co-op on Pillar of Autumn.

How come Bungie can't just block off achievements for custom maps, say, If i were playing a a forged FireFight map, and I wanted to get, say, the "T-BAGATHON" achievement... Then it would be impossible to earn achievements. Like GTA 4's cheats.

P.S. I made up the "T-BAGATHON" achievement.

  • 06.20.2009 4:26 PM PDT

Does anyone read original posts any more? Or do they just enjoy making themselves look stupid? The OP has already said why it is possible, with the exception of the fact forge is on the other disk.

  • 06.20.2009 4:27 PM PDT

Well, maybe Bungie doesn´t want some guys forging a room with no door and just with a few holes to shoot, all spawns in the room and a stupid ammuont of weapons inside.
Or maybe because Bungie told us that some of the Coveys will not be dropped from the phantom, some of them will just spawn, so if you put a crate or something blocking the Covenant spawn point the result will be: Brutes, grunts trapped somewhere making the guys unable to pass to the next round.
