Exactly. How can it take the fun out of the fight? Nobody is making you play the forged maps.

i really really wish they would put forge into fire fight. seriously, that would be so freakin fun. If people think it will "take the fun out of fire fight", then go back to playing halo 3 or odst campaign. seriously. don't blame your lack of fun on an EXTRA feature bungie could put into ODST. Just leave it alone if you don't want to play it.

A custom Firefight mode, aside from the additional development efforts, would require Bungie to setup new servers / storage space required to manage such.

And what's the point. You'll forge a space which offers your squad a advantage. Each time you Forge / play you will learn new ways to further this advantage. At some point you will have created a map where you have all the advantages and the enemy has none. At which point, there is no point.

Forge adds no value to Firefight. It is a waste of development efforts and time. I would much rather Bungie focused on new efforts than aiding such a pointless exercise.

By your argument, forge shouldn't exist at all.

Well thought out, but it seems like you didn't properly read the OP... The second you were to edit a map, it wouldn't count for -blam!-. Forged maps would not show up on record, and it would be like you never played the game.

I would put missle pods flame thowers and tanks. mostly missle pods to take out phantoms and other vehicles

Eventually the covenants sheer numbers will overwhelm you, no matter what weapons you have.

Well, it would lengthen the life span of Firefight considerably and open up countless opportunities for fans. Since the wave count is never ending, I think your squad would enjoy having a custom created advantage in the long run. Even if you have all the advantages and the Covenant have none, it will still be a very rough fight. The Covenant aren't wusses, you know. Forge in Firefight does add value! Imagine Halo 3 without Forge. It is not a waste of development efforts and time and I bet it could be easily added since the template for items would be no where as large. This pointless exercise would be a welcome addition to Halo 3: O.D.S.T. in many people's eyes.

I read the OP's initial post. I disagree.

Even if Bungie were to disable the ability to earn achievements, medals and or score while playing on a custom Firefight map by way of Forge, there still, in my mind, is not point to adding such a feature.

Fast forward 6 months into your version of the future and you will find 100 thousand maps, available for download, which all perform the same feat (my map will allow you and your team to reach level ???).

Which brings me back to my point: there is no point. I would have fun for a couple days. No doubt about it. Wouldn't take long, I would think, for even the most avid forger to grow tired of such a futile exercise.

This may be random but, after playing Cod Waw zombies. I realized that after you play on the same old map over and over again it eventually gets boring. By adding forge to firefight people would be able to re-design the layout and have fun every time, like it was their first time playing it.

As for the existence of Forge: I am a fan.

Forge, for H3 custom gameplay, is nearly endless fun. If the OP were to suggest the ability to Forge the existing Firefight maps for the purpose of custom gameplay (which did not include leveling up against the AI), then I would have voiced my support.

People could forge areas to keep the Covenant out, then it would mess with the AI and ruin the game when they can't get to you.

Here is why it isnt possible.

Its confirmed that it isnt in ODST.

  • 06.22.2009 11:43 AM PDT

That is the point of this... To just play on custom maps with you teammates and AI

I understand what folks are asking for. My point is: there is no point to forging when facing AI beyond the novelty of being able to do so. Fun for a few days. Where is the re-playability? Ok, we've made it to wave 200 using a ground based fort, now lets do the same with a skybased fort...

Also, people would use forge to break the engine. They would forge blocks in the path of the drop ships... Spawn coils to drop on enemy spawn locations... They would do everything but play the game as it was intended. Why would Bungie build/enable such a feature?

Calculus calms my troubled mind

I don't undersand why you guys are so strongly against forge in firefight. If you played a forged map to get to level X it wouldn't count for anything. You wouldn't be able to earn achievments/XP/ ranks on custom games. If somebody did make a stupid map where there is no possibility you can lose, you could play it or decide not to play the map.

Iam enjoying Halo Reach and revisiting some past Bungie games, iam a big fan of Bungie and their online community.

I have to agree its apossibility and althogh its slim it would be very good if you could forge maps for firefight.

Are you kidding me? This is what will increase the replayability. Have you ever played horde mode on GoW2 or CoDW@W zombies? The games are great. But playing on the same maps getting to more or less the same level again and again gets really boring. And I am a patient person.

You are looking at this in the wrong way. If people want to ruin the game for themselves by blocking off AI spawns, let them. It will not affect you. Sure, lets get to level 1000 with an invincible fort.

But at some point those people will realize that making maps like those on Foundry or Sandbox that are balanced and challenging are much better.

I am not asking for a total map editor. But what if I placed a rocket here? Or a wall there? What if I moved this existing box over here?

These small changes keep the experience fresh and increase the replayability of the maps.

And remember, nobody has to make or play level 1000 maps.

Forge adds no value to Firefight.

how so? just because you don't have the mental capacity to think of a way this feature can help, doesn't mean its impossible. I also don't see how a feature that you don't have to use can possibly hurt gameplay.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY THE STUPID MAPS, GET IT INTO YOUR THICK SKULLS!!!

I would just aim fusion coils at the phantoms with the man cannons. Woo for defenses.
