Actually, the term Silencer is misleading, it should be called a suppressor, if you are familiar with firearms, you would know that Suppressors are used to hide the muzzle flash, and does not make the gun quieter, this is how modern firearms work, such as a Suppressed MP5. This also means that enemies in the area surrounding the firing of such a weapon would be alerted to the presence of a enemy combatant, but not the location.
I am aware that this could have changed within the 500 years time difference, but if you watch gameplay, the sound made by the gun is not quieter then the normal gun.
So please dont get you knowledge of weapons from CoD 4 and get it from real life.
you do know how a suppressor works right? combine that with the reason why a gun makes a bang and you'd know that they do in fact work at silencing a gun.
If you only want to eliminate the flash they have equipment to do just that they call them "Flash Suppressors."
silly internet kidz, They dont actually know everything.

This is so wrong. Yes, the technical term is a supressor but it is used to hides muzzle flash and to reduce muzzle crack. I have used supressors a lot and can tell you for a fact that most weapons will be reduced in sound to just the noise of the bolt cycling and the next round chanbering. This can be a pretty loud noise but it is nothing compared to the crack of a bullet leaving the muzzle..
Also, if a supressor is merely to hide muzzle flash then why make them for air weapons on which they are highly effecient?
It should also be noted that supressors are ilegal in the States so anyone from there who is not in the military/police or ex of these really doesn't know what they are talking about.
I agree Im not sure how they know all of this when they most likely haven't had the chance to even use one.
