Subject: ONI Building: A Coverup for the Ark Portal?

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

Perhaps the reason why the ONI building is so important is that it is actually the location of ONI's excavation of the portal to the Ark. I can see there being a large shaft that leads underground to the excavation site, and ONI not wanting the Covenant to learn about this mysterious artifact. It would make sense, as there is nothing to suggest otherwise. This could be Dare's mission. She would have to blow the building up, which would cover any archeological sites up with rubble.

Support

-The denotation "Alpha Base" may imply this was the first Forerunner artifact found. This is very likely, as it is located on Earth, which would mean Humans could have found it before they achieved Faster than Light capabilities.

-The ONI base was located on the water, and in halo 3, specifically on the level "The Storm" it is obvious that the location was at one point covered in water as evidenced by the Boat that had washed ashore.

-ONI would not have uncovered the the entire portal just scratched the surface.

-For those who argue that this is not possible because the portal is located in Voi, firstly, no it wasn't, and even if it were, you have to remember that by the time of Halo, Mombasa has greatly expanded. The current city of Mombasa is known as Old Mombasa in Halo, while New Mombasa stretched for miles upon miles. And besides, if you notice in the ending cutscene of "The Storm", not only is there a great distance between yourself and the portal, but the portal itself is huge enough to encompass tens of miles.

Do NOT send me Recruitment Letters, doing so will get you blocked faster than you can say "Huh?"

No. Truth had to dig pretty far down to get to the portal, and he knew where it was. If humanity had known the aritfact was there then we would have known why Truth was landing were he did.

Truth got there the same time as master Chief, and the portal had already been dug up. I'm not saying ONI had totally uncovered it, merely a small portion of it.

And don't forget how ONI is usually secretive about these things.

Or maybe ONI new where the portal was, and the ODST squad along with Dare were sent to stop the Covenant from finding out where the portal was?

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

Voi is actually pretty far from Mombasa. I found a map and on it, you can find Voi, Mombasa, and Zanzibar. (Mombasa is east of Voi, and Zanzibar Island is the second island south of Mombasa.)

(Yes, these actually are real places.)

ummm no.

what hes saying is if humans found the artefact and decided to leave it without investigating because a million people called the ground above the artefact their home.
Then when the aliens attacked for the core everyone at ONI was dead and buried and plus ONI take most of their secrets to the grave. (It's like sector 7 from Transformers)

They didn't tell them what was there because either:

-they were dead

OR

-they are still trying to keep quiet

ONI Bastards

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

He also dug in a lake, since the huge hole is near the docks.

The roadsigns tell that Voi is 100km away from the center of New Mombasa, where the ONI building is located.

  • 06.20.2009 5:26 PM PDT

I conquer to your theroy. It is well supported, and especially the part about where is cannot be located in Voi, since New Mombasa is massive, ans Voi in Halo 3 was merely a city that Chief had traveled through, on Tasavo Highway. The fact that is on the large body of water is also reassuring, and the point that ONI Alpha Base is obviously an interest to the Covenant Invasion forces.

YES in the storm you were near the docks

Truths ship and the the start of your side of the the artefact was OVER 9000 miles away (thats a long way)

And perhaps the ONI building was located on the outer edge of the portal. The structure (Portal) is very large, and could easily encompass quite a few kilometers.

don't forget about the Halo 2 Conversations from the universe booklet about the ONI Secret thing.
"...We have been joined by a UNSC science team, and what I believe are ONI agents. They're actually quite helpful, if secretive, and have supplied us with excellent tech. However, they're most definitly NOT archaeologists and have very different ideas of how long a dig should take...

"Anyone can give up it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's the true strength."

During the Crow's Nest cutscene Keyes talks about them digging near New Mombassa. So this can be believable.

As a great man has said before "..." That is where the truth lies my friends

The only thing I have against your theroy is that The Portal to the Ark would not be the first Forerunner artifact, the Space Crystal that Dr. Hasely found would be the first. But that's not a thing to Ruin it, it just means that it would be the Second Artifact, Nice job.
