Subject: Sierra 320 and 259 may not be Spartans

Sorry for the wall of text but please read the whole thing before posting.

I do not think that Sierra 259 (S-259) and Sierra 320 (S-320) are necessarily Spartans.

For starters the first class of Spartan-IIs are numbered 001 to 150, though only 75 of them were chosen for the project and only 33 survived the augmentation process. It is possible that they are from the second class of Spartans, which would start at 151 and go up; however, Ghosts of Onyx states that Dr. Halsey indefinitely canceled the second class. Even if the second class did end up being conscripted there is no mention of them anywhere during the Battle of Reach (until now of course). It is also not possible for them to be Spartan-IIIs for numerous reasons that I don't feel like explaining.

Throughout the books and games Spartans always identify themselves as Spartan-XYZ never Sierra XYZ. For example, John always identified himself as "Spartan-117" and the same goes for any other Spartans. It is also worth noting that in Halo 3 John never says "Sierra 117." If the Spartans were working as a team they would identify themselves as "Spartan Blue Team" or whatever team it happened to be. It is possible that in Halo 3 the UNSC decided to use Sierra 117 (S-117) as a code name for John in an attempt to fool the Covenant.

This means that S-259 and S-320 are code names and could be almost anything, including Spartans or a group of Spartans.

"This is Sierra 320. Prepped for combat insertion."

I think that S-320 could be a Pelican. In Halo:CE, Foehammer is flying Echo 419 (E-419) and in Halo 3, Hocus is flying Kilo 023 (K-023).

"This is Sierra 259. You have Spartans of the ground sir. We're not going anywhere"

S-259 certainly seems like it could be an individual or group of Spartans, especially class 2 Spartans, but there is no way to know for sure. It could also be a Pelican providing support for the Spartans, or pretty much anything in a supporting role for the Spartans. I personally think it is most likely a class 2 Spartan which would open up a new possibility for the characters that we will play in the game.

In the end it is important to remember that there is no possible way of knowing for sure who or what S-259 ans S-320 are until Bungie releases for information, which may not even happen until the game is released.

Thanks for reading.

"A man without fear is a deadman."

Sierra is a code thing like alpha, bravo and delta so instaed of s-xyz sierra was military lingo kind of thing and i think in one of the books it talks about a member of the unsc carrying on the spartan project without dr hasley's knowledge that could explain the new numbers.

I still think it is more simple just to figure their spartans, we have no reason to believe not, in Halo 3 the master cheif is refereed to as seira 117 so why not just assumes its the same.

Not to belittle your post, quite the thought you put into it and great idea just I think wrong.

Right. However, that still does not mean they they are defiantly Spartans as I explained. But as I said I do think that Sierra 259 is a Spartan. The one I am not so sure about is Sierra 320. The point of the post is to say that there are other possibilities besides Spartans, not that there is no way they are Spartans.

The only thing I will say for sure is that they are not Class 1 Spartan-IIs, ie: S-259 is not Malcon like some people were saying.

If you think otherwise then why would a Spartan be refferred to the same as someone else? Why would he be called Sierra-259 and then a woman, not being a Spartan, be refferred to as Sierra-320? Also Spartans can be refferred to as "Sierra-XYZ" because in the WETA live action video, towards the end when the ODST has locked onto MC the tag for MC says "Sierra-117" and over the COM it says something like "Tracking Sierra-117"...

Oh yeah, i do agree with what you said about them not being class one Spartan IIs.

Play mission two of the Halo 3 campaign and watch the cinematic scene before the level. When the marines spot the pelican containing Master Chief asking for permission to land, the command center recognizes him as SIERRA 117. Turn on the subtitles if you can't hear it clearly enough.

I know that, I was pointing out that the Chief himself never refers to himself as Sierra 117, only other people. Again I am not saying they are not Spartans I am trying to say that there are other possibilities and we need to avoid jumping to conclusions so quickly, especially with Bungie.

Yeah, but that would be them trying to hide from the Covenant. At this point the UNSC probably wouldn't be too worried about hiding the presence of the Spartans.
And to the quote "Spartans are on the ground sir, we're not going anywhere'
Maybe that's just another Marine? Another way of saying that line would be 'We got Spartans down here sir! There's no way we can lose!'
Just a suggestion...

This. I also doubt that they're Spartans. It would be dumb if they were anyway, it would just ruin the whole Spartan Project. They were only numbered from 0-150.

Sierra 259 declares himself a Spartan in the trailer, pay attention when he says: " This is Sierra 259, You got Spartans on the ground Sir. We're not going anywhere."

He is informing Spartan units are in Reach ground and he is including himself "we're not going anywhere" as a Spartan. So it is easy to say he is refering himself as a Spartan.

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

Since class II was never produced (Halsey dropped the project so Ackerson created the Spartan IIIs)I would guess that it could simply be a Pelican. Does anyone remember the name of the Pelican that dropped the Spartans? (Though it didn't technically make it to the ground with a live pilot.)

the spartans dont identify themselves as sierra but everyone else calls the sierra, ie. in halo movie short, 1st level of halo 3, keyes calls john sierra 117 a few times in H3 campaign
