Subject: ODST Gloves

What is it with all the ODST showing there little fingers thru their gloves? The ODST's in Halo 2 and 3 never showed their fingers what gives? It just bothers me

  • 06.20.2009 7:44 PM PDT

Y'want some speculation?

I think that the team making the game wanted everyone to know, at all times, they are not a spartan. The easiest way is to have identifiers on your screen. Yes, the HUD is different -- even a different colour --, but that isn't as key as seeing human flesh on your character. Since Chief wore full-body armour, he seemed like an android. ODSTs with fingerless gloves? They look human.

its for looks and yes it bothers me a little to... just a little

Oops. I think I just lost your mind.

Easier to grip and manipulate things-- try to type with thick gloves. It's awkward.
the cheif could do things with gloves because he's a spartan-- massively improved dexterity and reflexes.

The ODST Body Suit (ODST Armor) has partial gloves, but they do not cover the whole hand.

What? I don't see what's so bad about that. I'd rather be a human ODST who has worked all his life to become a great soldier than a Spartan who was lucky to get picked and augmented >.>

This. Just showing that the ODSTs aren't fully encased in their armor like the Spartans puts much more humanity and personality into them.

Meepzoid

Because it matters so much that it was meant to have threads dedicated to something so non-sequitur to gameplay.

Give a man fire he's warm for a day light a man on fire he's warm for his life.

The reason that you can see his fingers is because it's easier to grip the trigger all spec.forces and snipers work

Yeah they look cool it show his humanity and it helps put enphasis that we're not the cheif anymore. Th ODSTs in the other games didn't have that, they also took a lot more damage than other troops, and they had a helmet so it seemed that they pretty much were spartans

  • 06.20.2009 9:34 PM PDT

Possibly, it makes it easier to flex their fingers, making reactions a teeny bit better.

Or simple aesthetics.

what do you think spartans did in between the time they got picked and their augmentations? they've been put through a ultra harsh training regimen since age six, long before any augmentations.they could take on ODSTs and win by the time they were 13 (as a unit, not alone).

  • 06.21.2009 8:23 AM PDT

i dont think that the odst's in halo 3 and 2 are even odst because compair there gear the ones in halo 2 and 3 have much lighter gear then the odst's they dont look like they r prepaired for being shot of corse and being able to survive .

what?, you think that they were instantly given the augmentations and then they were suddenly the best soldiers in the univers???
no, they had to train for like 8 years before they were given augmentations.

I agree with Halo 2 Rookie, but I also speculate that the gloves are for realism as well. Fingerless gloves are useful for physical activity (such as combat), as they provide superior grip and dexterity over normal gloves.

John or mc which ever you prefer fought 3 odsts at age 14 by himself and he killed one and hospitalised another

Closer to 20 years or up, but yes.
