The sheer amount of bull-blam!- that happens every game of halo 3 is mind boggling, and you know what would stop 80% of it? Dedicated servers.

Or...they can keep it the way it is and still make loads of money. More than they would with the dedicated servers.

maybe it happens 5% of my games.... but not all the time.... it's fine the way it is...

I know, happens to me SO often, get dedicated servers for goodness sake, me and my brother were talking about this yesterday after we had a 4 game streak of AWFUL connections.

My internet speed is above both the UK and US average, I have an open nat etc but none of that matters if the host has an awful connection. Only once at the end of a game was it fine when I became host, and lone behold someone on my team said "no lag".

Either get dedicated servers or have a better system for picking good hosts.

Not to mention the HUGE advantages a host has, flag tossing says it all.

Dedicated servers are only capable of supporting a certain amount of people.
Servers cost money to run, and require locations to put them. This means servers would be needed in every country that the game is played, which is expensive and difficult to say the least.

Also servers also will eventually need to be shut down, so say goodbye to playing retro games for fun.

Also, dedicated servers may well mean the end of custom games and forge, as there are P2P applications.

Finally, dedicated servers won't help if your connection sucks anyway, just look at EA games. They run on servers mostly.

If you want to know the best tips for playing halo Reach.
Look no further than Winter Contingency

In ireland the stuff that happens is stupid I remember hearing that there is no european servers only american ones and because of this I lose 50% of my beatdowns or randomly die even though I've Definetly hit them first.

Same story in England, I think its because Americans generally get host priority. There are no servers being used in Halo 3, except maybe servers to run the matchmaking process, but not the game itself.

Vancouver BC, Canada.

if lag was somehow (yes, somehow) avoidable, every Halo match would be so much better.

servers are too expensive to operate and install. And if you were too far away from the server (Actual distance), you might get worse lag than you do now. So they'd have to instal a massive amount of servers, pay for them all, pay for maintenance, and keep them running potentially as long as people are playing the game (years, decades maybe)

I think if they ran a method not dissimilar to CounterStrike's one.
Except;
Have the normal Halo 3 matchmaking,
Then for a certain price allow dedicated servers too.
Obviously custom games would not be included in dedicated servers, they would remain free and whatever.
