Yes, price rise. When Halo 3:Recon was announced Bungie stated that they saw the game as an expansion and would release it for less then the standard $60US but then after Bungie unveiled more features it went up to $60US in pricing.

I would rather they sold a stripped version without the 2nd disk for less money for those of us who already own Halo 3 multiplayer. I already own that stuff, and really don't want to buy again. And I could wait for the maps to be released on marketplace.

Another way to look at it though, is I bought Left 4 Dead (which I think is kind of a similar scenario - shortish campaign with added "survival" modes and what not, but the fun is in replaying it over and over again with friends) for full game price, and I feel that was pretty much worth it. But I think I will enjoy ODST even more. So I'm still on the fence with it but ultimately will probably get it...

How does that not make perfect sense seriously?

Expansion was not going to cost a lot.
Yet it wasn't an expansion anymore so why would they charge that low price for something that isn't an expansion.

I think the problem is a lot of folks feel like the "bonuses" are kind of bogus. It is like they are selling you a new smaller thing, bundled with a bigger thing you already own, and then telling you they are doing you a favor by raising the price, when all you want is the smaller thing for a fair price. Most of Bungie customers don't need another -blam!- disk with multiplayer on it.

Unless of course the situation is that disk was added after MS forced a price change, as a way to try to make the hit softer on their fans. If that is the case, then good on Bungie for trying.

Make it $120 so that the whiny poor people can't get it

The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

Then you're left with a dead game my friend. $120 dollars, I guarantee you tumble weeds will be rolling come launch day.

The fair thing would be release two versions, even though I know they won't. Sadly this is going to hurt bungie, since they wont be able to peak their sales with a good chunk of the community now hesitant to buy come launch day. (obviously not on this forum) but when you think about it, only a portion of the current community post here as well.

doesn't really matter if the price is raised slightly, its still better value than other games that are out, its only £30 in Game in the UK at the moment so I might preorder it now that the Sgt. Johnson bonus has been confirmed by game.

Don't have a problem with it really. They are giving the three maps, the entire multiplayer feature for Halo 3 and all the ODST stuff. Fair enough but I could do without them re adding the entire Halo 3 multiplayer.

A simple life.

I'd gladly pay 60 bucks for a game with what looks to be lots of replay value.

"It is impossible to prepare for and prevent a war at the same time"
-Albert Einstein

A bit hefty when you think about halo 3.

The outline that people have made for the pricing (american dollars) is often the following:
40- campaign
10-new maps
10-firefight.

Well i'd like to debate about the price of the campaign. If you lay out a similar structure for halo 3 that only talks about new features (just like the one above for ODST) we might have the following.

30 - (9 maps or so at 10 dollars for 3 maps, our general pricing for map packs)
10- forge (new ideas open up and definitely worth as much firefight)
5- Saved films (great way of file sharing and new ways to create machinima)

That totals to 45 dollars, leaving us 15 dollars for the campaign.

if halo 3's campaign is only worth 15 dollars (based off the general pricing structures for ODST and filling in the rest to H3's retail price), then i think that ODST's campaign is way overpriced.

So yea, I think that its a bit hefty when you think about halo 3

my opinion is that people need to shut up about the price

  • 06.21.2009 12:31 PM PDT

We were told about smal campaign to begin with. Now we have firefight and all the other maps. I think a fifteen dollar increase is ok...

A few more bucks for more awesome Halo stuff. Sounds fair to me.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Price is fine, people just like to -blam!-.

Think of ODST this way, pricewise:

Campaign - 20$
Firefight: 20$
maps = 10$
Reach beta invitation - 10%

I'd consider firefight 20$ because it look like it'll have a ton of replay value, plus there will be at least several different maps to play it on.

Sense when does it cost money to get into a beta?

I have this odd feeling that one day it will be released without the 2nd disk for cheaper. Just like Lucas did with the original star wars trilogy on dvd.

"You can only get the special updated/raped ones. The originals will never be released."

"damn... I guess I have to settle with that"

People buy the dvd set.

Later:
"Hey, the original is out now too."

"-blam!- you"
