Definition of a Viral Campaign

Will Bungie start a Viral Campaign for Reach, or is it just not on the same scale as the Trilogy? For example, Halo 2 had I love Bees, whilst Halo 3 had Iris, which was even bigger than I love Bees.

Heck, even ODST had a small Viral Campaign with Superintendant.

So will Reach have the same sort of thing? If so, one should pop up soon; Reach is only a year away.

-blam!- GTFO OF MY SIGNATURE

I seriously hope so. I was around during the Iris campaign, which was freaking epic, and I've heard alot about ilovebees. The Cortana letters were cool too.

I was around for none of them, not even the Super Intendant one, so I really want to experience one in Reach.

Nobody knows, but if they're going to follow the tradition of all other Halo games, then yes, there probably will be.

What about TheWayTheirWorldEnded? I don't think we know what that is about yet.

Look at the last line that says "STAY TUNED. AFTER ALL, THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE END." Now think back to the trailer, it said "From the beggining, We knew the end."

This site could be the ilovebees and Iris of Halo Reach.

Also if you go to some of the links at the bottom of the page it talks about the Halo Universe.

When was this site found? I'll look around for some info on it.

The original Lemon Head.

I certainly hope there will be more hype for Halo: Reach, seeing as Halo 3: ODST lacked the hype of Bungie's previous games.

TheWayTheirWorldEnded has both a Twitter and a Youtube account. It doesn't go fully active for a few more days though.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Something important to keep in mind!

Every single viral campaign done for an MGS game, including Halo, has never been born on a website other than one ran by either Microsoft or by Bungie.

The "TheWayTheirWorldEnds" website is NOT registered to a Microsoft IP, nor a Bungie IP, or any other game studio IP for that matter. It was registered via proxy registration, which MS does not do.

It is not a real ARG site and that is that. They wouldn't start an ARG site with such little exposure. It doesn't work that way... and on top of that, they wouldn't have it available until they intended for the ARG to start. So you can erase that URL from your bookmark if you're expecting it to be true Halo content.

Anyway... don't forget the Cortana Letters. They were a series of mysterious e-mails that were actually sent out, so that in and of itself was somewhat of an ARG as well.

It's interesting. It could be a hoax, but who knows?

People who use 'whois' sites know. ARG websites, not just for the Halo franchise, but for any MGS game, have never been registered under anything but the name of the Microsoft Corporation. This website is not, and is therefor not run by Microsoft or its affiliates.

It's a hoax.

Really? Well, maybe Bungie wanted to keep you from knowing for certain it was an ARG until it went live; they could be using an employees IP.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, to be honest. If they wanted to keep people from knowing if it was an ARG until it went live, it wouldn't even be visible. IRIS was completed but wasn't visible until after IRIS began on Bungie.net with Adjutant Reflex.

Also, the link to I Love Bees also originated here on Bungie.net.

This website came out of nowhere and has already been active for quite some time. Also, it isn't an employee's IP, it's a registration via proxy, which means that they went through a domain registration company who registers it for them to prevent people from getting their personal information.

It wouldn't make sense for Microsoft to not follow their usual registration protocols now, and not follow suit for their others.

MS isn't in the business of promoting the confusion about truth vs hoax when it comes to this ARG stuff. If an ARG were to start, we'd know it, because it would show up here first, which this has not.

It is very obviously a hoax.

  • 06.21.2009 1:18 PM PDT

Being a noob since 2007.

If it's a hoax someone has taken a long time over it, especially with the Youtube videos posted on the site.

  • 06.21.2009 1:24 PM PDT

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

That site has been around for a while, Bungie said it has nothing to do with them.

Have you seen the story audiobook? Yes, someone is very invested in the site, and I'll admit that I've loosely followed it. It's not a bad piece of fiction... but people need to realize that it is run by a fan. As long as you go into it knowing that, you might enjoy it. It's on-going, but even for as long as its been around, its still incredibly cryptic, which is why I'm guessing that it was intended to be a hoax, rather than to tell an original fanfictional story.
