Subject: Weapons I'd like to see in Halo REACH

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

Some of the weapons seem like upgraded versions of Halo 3 weapons. If Halo:Reach is before Halo CE, it wouldnt make any sense to have the weapons downgraded as the story goes further...

Some good ideas. Others would ruin the game for any casual player.

Over this thread has a lot of ups and downs. But the downs drag it down to much.

Casual players have no rights and I mean that. They are a disease. Back in Halo 2 I was was terrible for almost the entire time I played it. But that was fair, I sucked and I didn't deserve to do good. The Halo 3 skill gap is much smaller and that is ridiculous. Good players should absolutely dominate, no exceptions.

You'll notice that when you hit your limit as an individual, the next best place to improve is as a team. Its why I get steamrolled in Social Big Team Battle whenever I play, I'm a micless random, and they are a team of 8.

I play for the funzies. I salute anybody who goes by the BUNGLE code. I believe in Sasquatch, Buddha, Santa, & the fact that marijuana cures racism. I AM CANADIAN. I am...The Skookumchuk

Wieldable Traffic Cones, Portable Fusion Coils, & a very heavy stick FTW!

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

I loved it all, except of course the Spiker. I do however think that every weapon should be able to gain headshots, even an MA5B/C. Maybe not plasma weapons, but still.

A Gauss rifle would be a point and click weapon. As soon as you hit the trigger you get a one shot kill. You can get a multiple multi kills with a Gauss, not so with the laser due to its charge time. A laser can easily be taken out by a good banshee pilot and infantry seeing as most people use the scope, blocking radar and allowing for easy flanks. People will usually get 2-3 frags with it on a regular map at most and its really not that high up there on anyone's TOD. I think I'm with the majority of Halo players when I say don't remove the laser. The only thing i would change about it is the laser [bullet?] radius, make it a little smaller. I have no problem with it being a hit scan weapon, charging up is just as difficult as leading your target, because it leaves you vulnerable to being descoped.
Maybe they could add a charge time to it (since it's fired by a magnetic coil, and the Super MAC's had a charge and cool-down time) once its removed from its power source. I just can't stand that the laser is a hit-scan weapon that can kill any vehicle in one hit, instantly, without leading your shot...

I for one do not want a removal of duel wielding. The ability of constant fire and enhanced power balances perfectly with the inability to throw grenades and decreased accuracy. Its fun and gives guns more versatility, like dual smgs vs banshees and ghosts. I think they nerfed duals a little too much in H3.It's not just the accuracy that is degraded, though, it's the overall weapon effectiveness (compare the PR from H1 to the PR from H2 or H3. In H2 and H3, its only good for taking down shields or shot-beatdown... but in H1, you could actually kill with it. Same with the PP.)

Instead of using two SMGs against a Banshee, why not just use a single AR (it could have the same bonus against banshees as the SMG did in H2)? IMO dual wielding is just a gimmick which serves no purpose other than to weaken weapons.

Sure, you get more "variety" in that you can pair a few weapons together, but look at all the variety you lose with dual wielding. You can use the single-wield weapons much more often, at many different ranges, but you can only use dual wieldable weapons (effectively) up close.

I would love to see a return of night vision and an addition of thermal. A simple motion tracker animation on the hud would be sweet, too. I haven't read the books but it just seems like something that would be built into the hud, really. This would also open up lighting effects on levels allowing sweet shadows like they have in Halo CE.Definitely, I agree. I have heard that the MJOLNIR had both a NV and a low-light (black-and-white, I guess) vision mode from the novels, maybe we could switch between vision types with the Dpad if we don't get basic squad commands in this game.

Halo 1 had weapons that were greatly downgraded in 2 (Needler, PR, PP, Shotgun)... it's not so much about gameplay for weapon strengths, its gameplay.

IM A LEGIT 16

Good ideas, but I think the FLAK gun is unneccessary.

Also, I'd imagine "WER IZ MAI BR I R MLG PRO" threads would be everywhere.
(I'm not making fun of MLG, just those that pretend to be "pro" when they don't know what it means)

It also doesn't make sense that UNSC decided to make the BR weaker and that they won't deploy awesome pistols to the Master Chief.

Imho, the spiker would be ridiculously overpowered if you could shoot it as fast as you pull the trigger and it killed in 3 headshots.

I meant 3 unshielded headshots... I will specify that now.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

You basically want to over power all the weapons?

I'd like to see many Campaign/Forge specific weapons.

Things like:
-BR55/MA5B w/ grenade launcher
-A new plasma rifle, Grunt or Jackal plasma rifle. Used by high ranking jackals. High rate of fire, similar overheat to regular plasma rifle and weaker.
-Hunter assault cannon
-A smaller gravity hammer used by high ranking non-chieftain Brutes

Not at all. Running/strafing speed would be upped, melee would be made to take skill (so you couldn't just rush in for a no-effort lunge), aim assist would be lower, etc. I highly doubt you've ever played Halo 1, so I'm not sure if you'd know what those things are like.

So you want to make the game more difficult to play? Take more 'skill' to play?

And why would you want a grenade launcher on a single handed weapon? What would be the difference between the launcher and just throwing nades?

Sure. It's more fun that way. With a ranking system, the bad people will be playing bad people, so those who can't aim won't have much trouble shooting someone who can't strafe.

No, I think he wants to make the game require more skill to be good at. It would still be fun to play if you're not good.

Like he said, the bad people will play the bad people if trueskill works how it should.

And how about the problems with restarter accounts going in and fighting noobs? Or level de-ranking to fight the weaker opponents?

What about social playlists? Where everyone can play? Where skill isn't tracked? Where a team of 50's can face off against a team of 20's and some guests? These casual players need some grasp for what they are doing, and if the weapons are more hard to handle, and things are more difficult, Bungie will lose a big portion of their audience.

More hardcore gameplay = less casual players

I say keep it a simple, easy to pick up and play game, whilst still having competitive hardcore playlists.

The grenade launcher would have direct impact detonation giving them a unique function. And its campaign only.

If it's campaign only, I'm all for it.

I could see how it'd be really overpowered in MP, though.

That will always be there. The better player will always win in the match, but with my system, the game would be over much quicker, thus lowering the amount of time the noobs spent getting stomped.

I think Bungie should remove Social matchmaking and replace it with a custom game list. Then casual players can simply jump in and out of customs having lot's of fun with no competitiveness, auto-aim should be able to be raised for customs. Maybe their could be a ranking system for custom games to make the casual players feel important. Then the hardcore players have ranked matchmaking.

You don't seem to get what I am saying. Harder difficulty of playing, results in less casual players.

You know what, I am done arguing "Halo: Reach shouldn't be this way", because it isn't up to me! It certaintly isn't up to you either!

You may think, oh 'canonically it should be like Halo: CE'
But logically, it will be more like Halo 3. Why? Halo 3 has done the best out of all of the Halo's.
