A Gauss rifle would be a point and click weapon. As soon as you hit the trigger you get a one shot kill. You can get a multiple multi kills with a Gauss, not so with the laser due to its charge time. A laser can easily be taken out by a good banshee pilot and infantry seeing as most people use the scope, blocking radar and allowing for easy flanks. People will usually get 2-3 frags with it on a regular map at most and its really not that high up there on anyone's TOD. I think I'm with the majority of Halo players when I say don't remove the laser. The only thing i would change about it is the laser [bullet?] radius, make it a little smaller. I have no problem with it being a hit scan weapon, charging up is just as difficult as leading your target, because it leaves you vulnerable to being descoped.Maybe they could add a charge time to it (since it's fired by a magnetic coil, and the Super MAC's had a charge and cool-down time) once its removed from its power source. I just can't stand that the laser is a hit-scan weapon that can kill any vehicle in one hit, instantly, without leading your shot...
I for one do not want a removal of duel wielding. The ability of constant fire and enhanced power balances perfectly with the inability to throw grenades and decreased accuracy. Its fun and gives guns more versatility, like dual smgs vs banshees and ghosts. I think they nerfed duals a little too much in H3.It's not just the accuracy that is degraded, though, it's the overall weapon effectiveness (compare the PR from H1 to the PR from H2 or H3. In H2 and H3, its only good for taking down shields or shot-beatdown... but in H1, you could actually kill with it. Same with the PP.)
Instead of using two SMGs against a Banshee, why not just use a single AR (it could have the same bonus against banshees as the SMG did in H2)? IMO dual wielding is just a gimmick which serves no purpose other than to weaken weapons.
Sure, you get more "variety" in that you can pair a few weapons together, but look at all the variety you lose with dual wielding. You can use the single-wield weapons much more often, at many different ranges, but you can only use dual wieldable weapons (effectively) up close.
I would love to see a return of night vision and an addition of thermal. A simple motion tracker animation on the hud would be sweet, too. I haven't read the books but it just seems like something that would be built into the hud, really. This would also open up lighting effects on levels allowing sweet shadows like they have in Halo CE.Definitely, I agree. I have heard that the MJOLNIR had both a NV and a low-light (black-and-white, I guess) vision mode from the novels, maybe we could switch between vision types with the Dpad if we don't get basic squad commands in this game.
