As we are all aware, ODST is an open ended game while playing as the rookie. This is a very good thing, as it adds a lot of replay value to the game. But one thing not yet explained is the idea of ammo.

Covie ammo should be easy enough to find, but what about UNSC weapons and ammo? In previous games, weapon caches were the primary source. While I'm not saying those aren't possible, it would be odd for Bungie to put a neccessity such as ammo, left to a player's willingness to explore.

My conclusion is the idea that we will get a "safehouse" of sorts where we can go to access ammo, and possibly other things as well. Something to back this up is this picture, which clearly shows a room filled with UNSC weapons, and empty.

Thoughts?

That looks to be the ops room from where the team drop into New Mombassa. But I imagine they'll be plenty of nooks and crannies around the city where you'll find more than just weapons and ammo.

Maybe not a safe house but as we go along we will find ammo crates. That pic looks like the opening scene to ODST.

Snakie Purple.

"Hamdog, Hamdog, Hamdog, Hamdog"-Hamdog.

Twatter

Well, it will pretty much be necessary to have. I like the idea of using Bunkers and such as safe houses from the Covenant, where you can stock up on ammo.

The UNSC will likely drop ammo and guns like in Halo 3.

Now that you mention it, it does sort of look like that. But, I just think that in a wide open city environment, Bungie won't have to make you hunt for ammo.

Or you will find corpses and take the ammo from them...just a thought.

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

i'm still for a lot of drop pods being filled with guns.

When fighting waves of enemies, you are gonna need some ammo. Why not have that ammo in a safe place?

Maybe some of the markers on the map marked by the superintendant are ammo supply areas :o

Or you could read why I think that won't happen at least often.

This is likely, like in the E3 demo it showed the New Mombassa Police Headquarters as a beacon site. Perhaps weapons would be found there as well?

I would assume this also. I mean, we're did they get those mongeese and scorpians anyways? Probably scattered at abandoned depos.

Or those were part of a mission and have a specific reason.

Four shots, four kills, reload, repeat. This is the work of a sniper.

I loved when they dropped weapons in drop pods like Halo 2.

I figured the S.I. would be periodically resupplying us somehow.

you never said it wouldn't happen often.

I say Bungie will make you hunt for ammo. You would already have to do that for health packs. Plus it would add more of a challenge to its gameplay. I can't see safe houses in the game. I believe there will be weapon caches and dead bodies where you will find ammo.

Yes, that is always cool, but it wouldn't make sense, I mean couldn't they just evac the Rookie to a larger UNSC force? Or directly to the beacons?

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

Yeah more closed in areas with plenty of ammo and even save terminals would be good. Remember Outskirts in Halo 2? Or Turf? Being in the closed in areas of those levels could function as safehouses.

A challenge is one thing, but I like to have a steady flow of ammo. Not having to replenish by searching after a few patrols.

True. It got annoying in Halo 1 when you had 1 bar left and you needed another health pack, and you'd often needed to search the whole level to find one(Two Betrayals, gah!)

Exactly, plus it kind of hurt the flow and feel of the environments. (I.E Marines making it all the way to the base of the control room in AotCR).

Right, but that was linear and good weapons were few and far between.

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

I can see there being plenty of ammo laying around due to all the UNSC corpses that no doubt litter the ground after the battle. And I bet there will be some factories or armories where weapons are available.
