I understand that you have problems with some of the gameplay on Halo and remember one thing, Halo shipped rushed and unfinished. Halo was originally being built for Mac's and then Microsoft approached Bungie and said they wanted an awesome game to be ready for the xbox when it was realeased, so Bungie rushed as fast as they could to reach their deadline and a lot of elements they wanted in the game never made it. Don't worry Halo 2 will be far beyond any of our wildest dreams.

Why do they Covenant have unlimited ammo? They surely have to try and conserve it in Halo 2, and then change their weapon if they run out.
In the game manuals it said that we currently do not know how to reload the Covenant weapons. I'm in the understanding that the Covenant do in fact know how to reload the covenant weapons. This is my explanation for why they have unlimited ammo. Because they know how to reload their own weapons.

My Stats

Well from a designer's POV i think that a lot of the posts here are rather trivial.

The only point i can think of that would actually relate is the linear aspect of the game. First, lets define linear a bit more clearly. Simplified, linear means "in a straight, unbroken line" and the level selection aspect of Halo CE is non-linear however to progress through the game you must complete the levels in linear fashion (i've never played Metroid Prime for the cube but personally I like having the ability to go back and select -favorite-levels). From a designer's perspective playing the whole 10 levels of Halo (and Halo was rushed for completion unlike Halo-2 which will have much...much larger levels) with only check-and-load points could possibly be too much for the system to handle (this is in reference to loading memory and making use of the internal Xbox hard-drive). I like selecting a level and then playing it through seamlessly...

And a minor technical note about walking "around" Halo... the actual dimensions of the Halo ring instalation is so large that it would take months (if not years) to "walk" all the way around it.

I also find it humorous how GameJunkieJim proffesses to have killed an Elite with less then one clip of AR on Legendary. What are you trying to do dude, impress us? We all own the game (or atleast know and love it that's why we're on B.net!) and the only difference that firing short bursts makes is in accuracy... not lethalness. I encourage all to run up to a Legendary Elite with a full clip of AR ammo and -at point blank range- unload upon him. See for yourselves that you'll be left blinking at a still standing and rather pissed-off alien while you reload your weapon. The AR is effective but it's not the most powerful... nor should it be. It's your average bread-and-butter gun that you start off with and you always need room for improvement in you arsenal that's what makes the game fun.

I like the thought of Covenant reloading there plasma weapons (earlier on this site I mentioned that they should do it by attaching their gun to their suit and using it's energy to recharge the battery... this would still give them unlimited charge but give you a chance while their offense is down). Water vehics would be suhweet and i think we can count on a marked improvement for the AI of both Covenant and Marines. The Ghost is a good vehicle, but again, what do you want? a flawless vehicle that unbalances the game?

Halo CE was and still is after 3 years a great game (due to it's storyline and gameplay). We can only dream of what Bungie will do with it after having had the time to polish it and improve upon it in almost every way.

It's almost 31,400 kilometers long - not to mention the width

I really don't have a need to impress anyone - I was simply pointing out that it's possible, and all it take is practice.

We all own the game (or atleast know and love it that's why we're on B.net!) and the only difference that firing short bursts makes is in accuracy... not lethalness.

Do you have any idea what a fool that makes you sound like? Accuracy IS lethality. If I shoot you in the knee, and shoot someone else in the head, with the same weapon, who is going to die first? If you can cluster all of your shots into the same 5" (relative) area, the AR is and always will be a most effective weapon.

I encourage all to run up to a Legendary Elite with a full clip of AR ammo and -at point blank range- unload upon him. It is NOT the most powerful gun, but then again nobody said it was. And you might want to work on your own aim....Instead of trying to start fights on issues you seem to know little about.

Well it seems you aren't completely hopeless...

Tru7h.

Please don't start fights though, it looks bad on you - I already apologised for my undue behavior towards DeathScythe, and explained to him my point of view. And it's done. Don't get mad at me because I am better at one weapon than others seem to be. My friend Carozis can own me with the needler, because I didn't practice that one as much.

well, about the whole covenant have unlimited ammo thing..
do covenant really have unlimited ammo? i mean, when i pick up an elites plasma rifle, if i fought him for a short ammount of time it still has most of the battery left...but when i fight him for a longer time, such as in legendary, it always seems to have a really LOW battery...maybe it just never takes you long enough to kill them! and the hunters..well, if they didnt have unlimited fuel rods..theyd suck.

covenant should work more as a unit. jackals in the front line, protecting with their shields (like we saw on e3 2003). grunts are funny thought, when they run away. the best part about grunts isnt about the ongoing hard-as-heck battle with them, its more about their actual personality. "Little people first!!".

I like Doom Sticks idea about the ammo...

As for new AI -- I think we are going to get that in droves...

I'm ending my posts here, so I'll have my piece and leave.

The Covenant do have unlimited ammo. On Legendary, generally a Plasma Rifle has 75 charge left in it. This is so you always have a gun to pick up. Yes, this may mean that my theory of them not having unlimited ammo is now toast, but I'd like to see how it works non the less at least for AI terms. As for reloading the Plasma weapons, they use a power core as it says it the manual, which I'm gathering is a form of battery. If the Covenant did carry spare batteries on them, then Mater Chief or Cortana would have found one and implemented it some how, after all they understand how the control panels on Halo work. It's just easier game play wise, and more practical in real terms to pick up a new weapon. It's probably easier to change batteries then it is to change a game in your N-Gage mind... the possibility of the Elites using their shield to charge their weapon is a good theory though... however I think that even the Covenant don't know how to reload their own Plasma weapons, for they use Forerunner technology. Remember they are imative, not innovative. Oh and The Covenant DO reload in battle, but only with the Needler. It's not hard how to work out how to put a clip in something.

It would be great to navigate around Halo, you're just not as adventerious as I am. You wouldn't have to do everything on your own, you could catch a ride on a Pelican for example. And down forget that Halo is round, you wouldn't have to go all of the way round to get to where you were going if you had a Banshee, you could just fly upside down. Having levels gives Halo more of an Arcade "pick up and play" feel, but thats not to say my suggested version couldn't mave major chackpoints that you could start from any time you wanted.

The Xbox controller does have enough buttons to have Visors for the Chief, like he has in the books. There is a D-pad you know, and infact the Xbox controller has 16 buttons compared to the Gamecubes 12.

Agreed, the game was rushed, I wasn't disputing that, all I was saying was that if Bungie was given the time we would have had Halo 2's gameplay years ago. Remember this is what they would have been discussing after Halo was completed. Having a mix of opinions if good, even better so if they contrast because then you can be objective.

I shall leave the forums forever now, never to post again. I simply don't have the time to get into in-depth debates these days.. sigh... oh for my youth and days spent with free time...

Farewell

Mat

It is quite unfortunate that you have come to that decision.

You did put up a topic that got a few people interested in a debate of sorts, and all worked out well in the end, no matter how tense it may have been.

You brought up many valid points, and you are not a vile spamming type that simply put it up for arguments sake. You are a valuable member of this forum, which is better than I can say for many of the posters here. (Present company excepted, although it got a little tense between DeathScythe and myself)

I know I may be terse, and come off as a jerk to some people, but I don't want anyone to take it to heart. Trust me, I'm sure there are many people that will bust me down a peg or two when Halo 2 is the game to play on XBL...

Just remember that all things can be talked out without resorting to the "Yo Mamma Mindset"

I want to say Thanks to MatMat for the post, and the chance to get out our opinions...

-JIM

QUIT YOUR BITC.HING. Bungie is making the game, not you, so shut the hel.l up and wait for the game because if you liked halo, then you will like halo 2, no matter what stupid -blam!- they put in it.

P.S. They had a lot of crap in Halo 1 and stuff everyone wanted to change, but you know what? It is still my favorite game and probably always will be. It will be the same way in Halo 2. I think everyone needs to just shut the f.uck up about the bad stuff that might be in the game until they actually play it.

Someone always has to come along and prove me wrong... I was just talking about a mature discussion and then some moron comes in here and flames, on a subject that we finished yesterday.

gCypher - Did you bother reading the posts or were they too much for you?
