Subject: Trust Bungie to do well

I think that it's best if people all stop making posts saying what they think Halo:REACH should have in it gameplay-wise. All the other Halo games have been epic already, why shouldn't this one be. I don't see any need to change the gameplay. I'm already getting sick of people asking for COD-like perks and controls. If you want COD gameplay, play COD. But stop posting requests for them, if I have to put up with a year of that I'll go insane.
I've got nothing against people posting stuff about what weapons or vehicles will be in it, or what the campaign will be like, cause thats what this forum's about.

Why should they trust bungie to do well?

if they don't demand for things now, they'll have nothing to launch their Anti-Bungie campaign on when the game comes out and it isn't the second coming of jesus christ.

Can't you see I'm Busy!?

I think it makes for good discussion (as long as there is no flaming). There is nothing wrong with people giving their opinions and constructive ideas.

Yes there are A LOT of threads on the matter, but you don't have to read all of them :)

1. a game is supposed to be to the liking of its fan base, not the company specifically.

2. bungie has such an unskilled noobirific fanbase that halo 3 became a noob friendly game.

HALO REACH NEEDS TO TAKE SKILL, with each new halo game, the game took less skill. and anyone who says its the opposite is stupid.

and this is why Bungie is constantly criticised? For following their fanbases every whim?

no, they're criticised for trying to appeal to a fanbase they dont have.

Halo 2 and 3 are good examples of this. They appealed to the casual gamers by adding aim assistance, a lunge to the melee, and slower overall gameplay. Even though their fan base for halo 1 was mainly nerds who love fps's, they appealed to a different group to try and lure in a bigger halo crowd.

well now the fan base is easily around ten million people, and since most of them know how to play the game now, bungie needs to make it extremey fast paced, make it so it takes even more skill than the first halo.

Or, they can continue to make it Balanced and perfect, like it is in Halo 3.

Screw the guys who think they're hot -blam!-. skill is relative.

  • 06.21.2009 1:57 PM PDT

Halo is great because it appeals to a wide skill range. For people who are very good, they offer MLG and hardcore playlists. For people like me, who aren't so good, they include things like aim assist and lunging, to make the game run smoother and be easier to get into. Making a game overly hard is pointless, no new people will be able to get it, and whats the point in that? if no new people ever played games, the entire industry would die out.

it might be balanced, but its still slow paced and lacking skill. halo 3 is definitley not close to perfect, it just appeals to casual gamers.

Good thing Halo 3 allows the option to customize it in such a way that the supposed "lack of skill" can be removed.

But that isn't good enough is it?

you want to alienate several million casual players so you can have some supposed skill, which was ALWAYS there.

show me one situation that lacks skill.

All those things like aim assist and lunging and slower pace of gameplay wouldnt matter if you were playing with people with a similar skill(bad ranking system). and there really is no point in making another game which appeals to even more casual gamers. bungie has gained a huge fan base over the years, it doesnt need to appeal to even more people.

[i]a little patience,yeah yeah yeah

I have a life, and friends.
If you don't like Halo 3, don't play it
Do you have a life and friends?

but thats it, you cant get red of melee lunge and aim assist, and bungie really doesnt need to. it just needs to reduce it a lot. you make it sound as if im the only person who wants halo to be faster paced. I guarantee 70% of the people who were constant halo CE players agree with me. im not saying make the game overly difficult, im just saying simple gameplay tweaks and matchmaking changes would improve the game so much.

who says they are appealing to even more people? they are simply trying to keep their fanbase.

Also, the lunge and Aim Assist are not noob friendly and skill less. I actually have not noticed a single time in Halo 3 where the Lunge seemed too far, or the Aim Assist was too good. Hell, I can't even count the times I've wished the lunge was longer, or the Aim Assist was better.

In fact, The Aim Assist makes the game Harder for me. I lock in on a target, and then get pulled away by a closer target, or get pulled out of my position by a lock on to someone I didn't want to look towards.

Oh, and the ranking system is PERFECT. Better than any other game i've come acrossk, particularily since most of the games people tell halo to be like use the same system.

so basically, you think that if bungie amped up the skill a bit, with an improved ranking system (so that youre actually paired with people of similar skill), they would lose millions of fans.

again, what skill. Skill is relative to your opinion.
and yes, they would, if they wen't to the extent you are considering.

In order to make this game HARDCORE, they would have to do a lot more than TWEAK the gameplay.

No, i think that making the game harder by removing things would make the game less Halo.
I've got nothing against improved skill system, but I haven't found a game with one that works to date, and there isn't anything overly wrong with Halo's. But then again, I play mainly social, so I wouldn't know too much about that.

you just proved all my points without realizing it(except for the ranking). And this argument is pointless because im a hardcore gamer, and you're not.

the ranking system is bad, ill give many examples.

-team wins, me and almost everyone on team +k/ds, but my rank goes down

-win one game, no rank change, lose second game, rank goes down

-team a has 4 ranks 45s
team b has 3 45s and a 49

team a wins, and all the 45s on team had negative k/d except the 49
the 49 will go down 1 or 2 ranks.

that's life.

I also noticed how you avoided telling me HOW i proved your points.

really, if you are too stupid to realise how it works, consdiering it has been explained several times by multiple sources, Player, Bungie and MICROSOFT, it's creator, and is VERY rational, there is nothing I can do to explain it to you.

if you lose to a lower rank, you go down. The higher your rank and the more games you have played, the more likely you are to go down than up. The lower the rank you lose against, the more you go down. the higher the rank you win against, the more you go up.

but the games becoming "less halo" with every game. halo 1 took skill, but still had some tweaks, halo 2 took a little less skill and still needed some tweeks, halo 3 took less skill than 2, and needs some tweaks.

The series has been pointing to the casual with each game. Im saying that with such a large fanbase that knows the game now, its time to start moving in the other direction.

EDIT: p.s. i explained it to you in every single comment, but like i said. YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN UNTIL YOU GET BETTER AT THE GAME, thats what i implied when i said "im a hardcore gamer and you're not"
