It seems like such a waste and loss of technology when ODST's drop in their drop pods, only to have them stuck in the ground or wherever they land. How can the UNSC afford such actions? Do they ever recover the drop pods?

J-H

You'll probably find bits of them are salvaged but they are probably too badly damaged in the drop to recover the entire pod (e.g. when they hit the ground the base of them is most probably destroyed). I mean i read somewhere that HEVs (or Drop Pods) can be used as a life support system and shelter for an ODST; they have stocks of rations etc. and i think are heated/cooled etc.

They probably recover it if they get a chance or keep a surplus of them.

...seriously? lol

There's not a recovery team for the pods. It's a one-time-use thing, nothing all that wasteful.

Maybe if the UNSC had a large ODST-to-Marine ratio, but most of their infantry is Marines. Not that big of a waste because ODST's aren't a trooper being deployed in large scale.

I sort of agree. How does the UNSC have the money to make all of the weapons and HEV's and Carriers and other stuff when most of the planets are being glassed? Some of those planets bring in supplies.

Money is no problem for the UNSC.

Do you really think the UNSC is lacking in money ? They are funded by Microsoft . . .

See what i did there . . . ?

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

Well, they're not being used excessively, only when necessary. I think they could do without the videocoms, but other than that, it's not a huge waste, because they use them sparingly. Remember being dropped off with ODSTs?

And really, you'd be surprised how much certain things in the really military cost. My uncle returned about a year ago, and he was in charge of putting the supply orders through, so he had the whole catalog of prices for everything. Some of them are ridiculous

It's the future, they don't use money.

I agree. military stuff costs alot. in Cod 4, when you die it has little facts or quotes, and it said the cost of a stinger missile is somewhere in the thousands.

Yes, as of 2008, they were $38,000.

That's nothing compared to the Tomahawk Cruise Missle, which costs around $550,000. (Call of Duty lists it as $900,000)

Of course, they're not too expensive, when you consider their function. It's not like they're wasted.

I got his sarcasm...one person has to implement sarcasm and then you get a pile of terrorist chipmunks crashing your party, not fun at all..

Also note that Tomahawks are used very liberally in training and in operations. You could argue that thats a bigger waste than not recovering ODST pods. Then again theres heaps of stuff the military use that can be seen as "wastes" just about every bomb and missile has been used more time in training than in operation. Thats not a bad thing, thats just how it is - military uses a lot of money get over it.

"Take my advice. Rookie. You ever fall for a woman?

...Make sure she's got balls."

Whats the fun in a GAME if it doesn't seem plausable for the setting?
