You probably couldn't hold a single one and aim well, though. And that's the point. Even the dual smgs cause massive recoil in the chief's hands.

Ahhh! can't believe they took it out of the dictionary ....and NO I'm not coming out of my shell untill you get that THING off my avatar

they are not strong enough ;)

and yet you can pick up one of those mounted machine guns and run around with them like a spartan? but yet you can't dual wield? it don't make sense.

  • 06.22.2009 2:31 PM PDT

My troll sense is tingling.

the thing is is that for something as un-awesome as an ODST, they're difficult to balance. It's not so much physically as mentally impossible.

It has nothing to do with strength. If the MJOLNIR Mark V can't recognize more than one weapon, neither can a Body Suit.

Oops, I logged into my old profile by mistake. My bad, we're both the same guy.

Keyes is a bad-ass gamer chick, of course she can dual wield.

or she could be a hacker :)

Life's a -blam!-, always testing you. All you got to do is get up from your desk, kick it in the balls and walk out of the class. Then you come back later, and pass the test.

how the hell can Miranda do it?

She dual-weilded a shotgun and a pistol. She Didn't actually SHOOT them, otherwise she would have been blown a few feet back.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I don't understand, Miranda Keyes's, a navy officer can dual wield, but a heavy armored and combat trained ODST can't?

Cinematic flair.

It's all balancing issues. The new SMG and Auto Mag are way too powerful, and dual wielding plasma pistols, spikers and plasma rifles isn't really a big deal. Also, on the whole "Miranda was dual wielding thing": In Halo 2 she was pretty much point blank in the Arbiters chest plate. If she braced her arms, she could fire 'em. In Halo 3, if she fired the shotgun or the Mag, she would have gotten her arm broken (Shotgun) or dislocated (Mag). Also, not everyone is ambidextrous, so firing with both hands could be hard for some people. On the canonical thing: Well, FireFight is the only place we've seen ODSTs use turrets, have the option to board Wraiths and pick up Gravity Hammers. It's not canonical because Johnson can be there, while he's on Delta Halo.
Hope that helped any lingering confused/surprised faces over the whole dual wielding thin. Peace.

Cause she's a ninja ni ninja ninja ni ninja

  • 06.22.2009 3:26 PM PDT

I want my steaks Luke...

Story wise...
Spartans have better targeting equipment and ai's to help them aim two weapons at once, while ODSTs do not...

  • 06.22.2009 4:09 PM PDT

holding two weapons at once is easy, shotting might be a little difficult
Miranda never shot either of the two at once

  • 06.22.2009 4:11 PM PDT

I think it would be good for firefight since we see a ODST rip off a turret, use a gravity hammer, and can beatdown a brute. Why not dual wield then?

Isn't it obvious? She outranks them. You're not allowed to dual-wield in the military until you've achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.

Excellent. Nod grows stronger by your victories.

One thing i never understood about dual wielding: How does Chief reload with only one hand?

He uses his 3rd leg.

It's the HUD - the MJOLNIR Mark V couldn't recognize two weapons. The body suit is not as good as the Mark V, so why should it?

If the player didn't have a HUD (don't say Blind Skull, because that's not what I mean), it would be possible but difficult.

its the fact that cheif can auto aim, miranda misses every shot if im not mistaken. Its not that they cannot dual wield its the fact that they would be inaccurate.

okay, thank you that was the best answer I heard all day.

Because its Over Ownage.

Dual weilding two smg's that can scope.

Dual weilding two Auto mags that can scope.

Dual weilding an SMG and an Auto mag that can scope.

Its all balance friend.

ya your right, but it dosen't really matter since their is no matchmaking with ODST

good point OP.

The ability to dual wield is a function of both strength and dexterity. In addition, even if you were the most dexterous person in the galaxy and you were strong enough to manage the aim of both weapons while firing, a special forces unit like a ODST would most likely stick with his primary weapon to ensure the greatest possible accuracy over raw firepower.

very true, thank you for your great answer, I really needed to hear that.
