Hello all, Geegs here with a nice, interesting thread (says I) and I need some feedback and opinion. Please read the entire post carefully before voting, and be sure to reply :)

Since the release of Halo 3, many members have been clamoring for the Recon armor variant. Most of them did it wrong by asking for it directly, or recommending screenshots and the like. Others tried to stand out in some way and be rewarded for their certain achievements or community involvement and some succeeded. Through all the good and bad that this armor variant has brought to the Halo community, I still think that it's pros outweigh the cons.
I got to thinking then, will there be something like Recon Armor included in Halo: Reach? Will there be some special attainable item that Bungie can give away to extraordinary players?

Now, there's more. This item could be in the shape or form of many different things. If Bungie does implement this, the unlockable could be like in Halo 3, a special armor. Or it could be an emblem, and different rank insignia, the list goes on.

Please, vote and then reply to this thread with your reasoning, along with what you think this special item should be.

Cheers,
Geegs

Brainstormed List of Unlockables:
Visor Color
Black Color Unlocked
Full Mark IV Armor
Previously Restricted Tags "N64, I17" etc.
Emblems
The ability to name future weapons/vehicles
More specific gifts, for example people that have the most warthog splatters get a special bumper for their ride, most ranked BR kills gets a golden BR etc.

Though it caused a lot of pain to Bungie employees with the spamming, I do want something like Recon to be in Reach. Perhaps not just as an armour variant; for example it could be a special emblem or visor colour. Maybe you could do the techno chicken dance instead of teabagging.

e it could be a special emblem or visor colour.

i think it should be a visor colour so its not as good as a whole set of armour but then people would ask how you got it not say OMG YOU HAZ R3CONZ and spam you

Visor color is a very cool idea. I hope that visor color is a customizable option in Reach though, so maybe just a special color?

OMG YES!!!! Definitely a customizable option!
Come one everyone! We gotta let Bungie see this!! I would be awesome to have a normal ODST visor color on my ODST helmet ;P

They should have three special armors:
1) Given to people who do extraordinary things
2) Bungie Employees
3) Something for people who buy all map packs

I was just thinking, it would be funny if the Mark 5 became the new recon armor. When everyone starts going crazy about wanting Mark 5, it will prove that people only want what they don't have; although it was default in Halo 3.

No I don't. All it causes is useless spamming and a massive influx of kids asking "can i haz <insert item here>?"

  • 06.22.2009 9:54 PM PDT

well at least bungie has the chance to get rid of any "hard coded problems" with reach and be able to add new armor to the game and multilpayer since it wont use halo 3's.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Hayabusa was supposed to be "the special attainable item" in Halo 3 originally, until modders spoiled the means to attain it for everyone. Recon began to be given out as gifts to players who had done something notable, but via correlation, the immaturity and selfish nature of portions of this community had caused some seriously disruptive behavior that won't stop even after ODST makes the permutation public.

The forums were a mess when the traffic cone kill arrived and received the first Raiment, and only got worse as time went on. Now it's not as bad, but it is still prevalent, and it's even worse in-game with all of the XBL spammers and scammers.

I think it's great for members of this community (and other communities) to have both something to look up to as well as work toward, but to be completely honest, I'm not sure it's worth the headache. It's cool to be recognized by Bungie employees for the cool thing one creates or the good deeds one performs, but the recognition alone is something that should be appreciated. It's a very erratic system, and it makes sense to be... but the sense of entitlement that gamers seem to privilege themselves with just ruins a lot of experiences for both people with and without the permutation, and I'd rather we all have something we can equally work toward.

Maybe if the "Giveaway" contests or challenges continue, in an effort to provide the opportunity to a larger pool of gamers who may or may not have the time to share themselves and their passions with others, then I'd feel more comfortable about it.

Did you miss the point of my post? I'm opting for it to be more easily attainable so people like you and everyone else who may not have had the chance can have just as well a chance as anyone else. That has nothing to do with whether I have it or not.

EDIT: And whether you like it or not, my post has just as much merit as anyone else's.

I think there was a misunderstanding. See what I get from your post is that you don't want there to be special attainable armor. My mistake.

I got a better solution. What if we just ban little kids instead? xD
