Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.
The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.
I like the idea, mainly cause Ive always thought that sitting in a vehicle is way to static. Its like, now you're in, now you're out. Being able to exit much faster and in context sensitive ways, for instance, if I hold back whilst exiting a Mongoos or a Ghost the Spartan will make a backflip, perfect if someone is trying to assassinate you, would be much more interesting. And being able to throw yourself out of a Warthog if a rocket is heading towards it. More responsive controles in other words. So if one were able to jump out faster, one could board another vehicle on the roll, and if luck one wouldnt even need to touch the ground.
On a side note:
Ive always felt that Bungie has been struggling to balance vehicles vs going on foot, either they've thrown is something that is way to powerfull or its the opposite. First out was the improved rocket launcher in Halo 2, which could lock onto vehicles, but that was removed (WHY?!). Then they gave us the splazer, missile pod and the trip mine, And none of them really works. Well, they're too good. The Splazer is undetectable since you dont have to expose the beam while charging and cause it isnt only used on vehicles. The missile pod is far to unreliable and feels completely unnecessary since the lock on function just as well could be on the rocket launcer, Although I guess that the Missile pod was introduced since the rocket launcer had a too big area of effect, it would ruin the gameplay on levels like Valhala (cave dwellers). And the trip mine has a far to big sensitivity area.
So this is how I think vehicles should work. When you're in it you should have an advantage. However, instead of being directly killed, one should be able to jump out, whilst on foot you are sett against your opponent on equal terms. If you're shields arent depleated. The anti vehicle weapons should be more about eliminating the vehicle then killing everyone inside it, cause thats just a cheap kill/triple kill. So if the Splazer beam doesnt hit any of its passengers, it doesnt kill any of them. It does however destroy all parts that are in the beams way, so if you hit the engine it explodes, but if you just hit a wheel... It'll still be able to drive, just not as good.
Make vehicles something that slowly withers away rather then something thats exposable a respawns constantly. The loss of a Worthog should be a quite a sad experience :´(
All vehicles should have a couple of parts, that when hit make the vehicle react according to what part it is. Another example: it you manage to plant a plasma granade on a Banshees tailfin, stearing it should become much harder.
It sounds a bit complicated, but as long as all systems Ive mentioned are consistent, Id think it'll work pretty well. Being able to point out targets to the passengers would be quite usefull to, mostly in singleplayer.
