As we face each other in battle, locked in combat, we shine even brighter

Ok I love halo but I never read the books, so I go look up some info for halo reach (because I know -Blam- about it) so I read a short description of it and it said somethong about it being the central planet were the Spartan program was going on and where most of the weapons were placed. so my question is How the hell did they lose it to the covenant.

plz respond becuase I'd like to know

There were 314 Covenant warships that attacked Reach at once, against 152 UNSC ships and a bunch of orbital defense stations.

Covenant technology is superior, and in the case of Reach their numbers were superior too. I didn't bode well, and the Humans got majorly owned.

Because on the ground... the spartans were superior... but reach wasn't lost on the ground. The covenant had such a superior space fleet. That's how they lost

Damn they hit them hard. did they know that the biggest threat to them was on reach so thats why they attack it with every thing they had.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I just bought Halo: Rising, Halo: The Fall of Reach, First Strike, and The Flood.

They lost because of Space combat.

Basically, the Covie B*stards slipped a ton of landing craft passed the oribatal defenses, by jumping a pair of frigates into the space between planet and defense, those ships got blown to bits, but they launched the hundreds of thousands of landing craft. those landing craft knocked out the ground based power for the Super MAC's in space, the hoes blasted them to slag and burned up Reach.

The Covenant has ALWAYS had a superior space fleet.

If you consider Heroic to be the most realistic Halo difficulty, then Spartans aren't that powerful orresistant anyway.

Actually im pretty sure that the most important point in the battle for Reach was that the covenant screwed up the generators that powered the Orbital MAC guns. So, it was lost on the ground which led to the battle being lost on space.

What he said. To the OP, my short answer would be "read The Fall of Reach already". Though a bit tedious and even boring at times, it details the origin of the Spartan IIs as well as the siege and fall of Reach. I do think though that having the actual MAC power generators on the ground -- so we had huge amounts of power transmitted...wirelessly? -- instead of in a more sensible location like, I dunno, deep inside each station was a rather weak plot device that all but ensured the planet's fall. Remember Halo 2? The Covies had to board the Earth MAC stations in order to disable them. If Reach had something like a prototype or rudimentary planetary energy shield to prevent space bombardment (like the one in the sixth Halo Wars mission; the UNSC could actually have developed one from years of studying that one plus all other Covenant shield technology) then the Covie desperate gambit to get ground troops in would've made the planetside defense plot more logical. Too bad Nylund didn't think of that one, eh? ;)

They didn't realize that Humans lived on Earth. They knew there was the ark on it, so they sent a small fleet to dig it up, didn't expect to encounter the enemy homeworld.

I love Mute!

Plus Spartan always win on the ground
In space not so well.....

  • 06.23.2009 12:07 PM PDT

i wont tell you why the earth fleet was so much smaller cause i dont want to ruin it for anyone reading halo first strike but basicaly the covenant were strong but not invincible and thanks to a couple of brave soldiers the covenent were alot weaker than at reach but still perfectly able to crush the UNSC unless they were dammed unlucky
