Again, It's already been proven that it's a prequel. In Halo: Reach, the blockbuster prequel to the Halo trilogy, experience the events that transpired on the planet Reach. Created by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach will be available in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360. As a bonus for Halo fans, Halo 3: ODST will be the key to entry for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta coming to Xbox LIVE.

"From the Beginning, you know the end" kinda tells us that it's a prequal

See i've thought about this. I believe that it means this:

Halo CE you start at Reach. Go off on your adventures, and ultimately finish at the end of Halo 3 drifiting in space. From the beggining (Reach) you know the end (back to Reach).

I think Reach is the start and the end.
Give it up.

Reach is not the planet in the Halo 3 Legendary ending.

dude in the video they are bombing the hell out of it and the UNSC is already there that and you see a spartan floating through the debris (not the chief he went into that sleep thing) also remember how they say spartans. also the chief was still near the ark which was unknown to the humans so its impossible.

Think about it. Halo 1 is the "end" of reach.
We played Halo 1 (first game aka the "beginning")

Halo Wars. Massive hype, terrible outcome. Bungie and no doubt Microsoft would have learnt from this that doing a prequel where you know the outcome (to a certain extent) wouldn't work.

At the end of Halo 3 and The Halo Reach trailer, there are 2 planets. Can you see a difference?

So now you say, well it's not the same planet.

But think about this ladies and gents, why would Bungie create 2 almost indentical planets? Surely they knew that would cause wild speculation and set themsel;ves up for an inevetible downfall?

i don't know maybe they felt lazy one day, maybe to cause the wild speculation

http://sturob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/earth-light .jpg

also look at this pic i put up, note the planet "Symbols" thats the city lights that are turned on. now most humans like to live near food, shelter and each other, note most of the lights in the reach pic are near water. also note water is missing in the Halo 3 ending planet pic.

Those two planet(oids) are not "almost identical". They are spherical with horizon lighting. By that logic, every planet in our solar system is the very same planet so long as we never see them more than one at a time.

Xbox.com confirms that Halo: Reach is a prequel.

Halo Wars was ran by a completely different studio, was an entirely different genre, had plot inconsistencies, and relied heavily on cinematics to tell its story. It was not an immersive experience like the other Halo games have been and will continue to be.

It is unlikely that Bungie will even base the game on The Fall of Reach, as Reach does not even "fall" in TFoR. If we follow the story of the novel(s), it will likely focus on First Strike, and even then, it is likely that we will be introduced to new content and storyline that was not present within either novel, considering how "Sierra-259" and "Sierra-320" have never before been introduced to us.

Lastly, as one of the more involved fans with the Halo universe, I loved TFoR and First Strike and would absolutely love to see either one made into a Halo title, even if it is word for word. They are incredible stories, and would do the franchise a world of good if done correctly, as the majority of halo players don't even know what the hell Reach is, or that there ever were other Spartans. Introducing some more backstory to the general fanbase is an incredibly awesome idea, and knowing Bungie... they'll likely tie a few details from the game into what is to come somehow, as they always do.

In closing, shut up. I'm getting tired of people whining about a game from which the only media we have is a teaser trailer and a banner image of silhouettes. Whether you like it or not, this game is a prequel, not a sequel, and whether you think it makes logical sense or not (and... you're one of the minority there), that is not going to change.

In English

"When you played Halo 1 "

"You learn the end of reach"

It's not all about the end. Look at Romeo and Juliet.
And also, who's to say it's actually following reach and not just during the timeline?

Well, I sincerely doubt they would name the game "Reach" if it didn't focus on it in some way.

No.

Not only is there absolutely nothing about Reach to learn of in Halo: Combat Evolved, but the main events that occur on Reach actually happen after the events of Halo: CE anyway.

...Then again, that would technically erase the prequel status, so maybe we won't be focusing on First Strike.

  • 06.23.2009 12:50 PM PDT

So what if it isn't a prequel, my guess is it will be a prequel/co timeline type thing, where it starts before the first game but will follow the events of other Spartans up to the end of Halo 3, the game will end with them stuck on Onyx. On the way you will play in missions along side the chief, but not as him.

This would mean a lot of cool cut scenes to cover time jumps, and also Spartan IIIs. This would also set up for a super sweet sequel to Halo 3

Not true! Because Reach Falls and Pillar of A. escape entering Halo: CE.
That quote could be talking about how reach "ends"
Go back and check the first Halo:CE cut scene. They talk about the escape from reach.
Also in Halo 2 first cut scene we also see the Arbiter, talk about how they escape from reach.
So Halo:CE is the Start on how reach ended!

Isn't Marathon set after Halo? I don't really know, I just thought it was.

No. Marathon is set in an alternate universe with a character with different cyborg armor called Mark IV. It starts out with the player floating in space in a small pod that looks like something from the 20th century space missions. Master Chief is in completely different armor, and is in half of a ship; not a pod.

“To say more would spoil be it’s overall its a game that needs to be played.” - Aristotle

Your case is subjective and doesn't stand up to the facts.

Halo Wars was an RTS done by Ensemble, not an FPS done by Bungie. The entire gameplay style was different, and it was created by a completely different company. The so-called "failure" of Halo Wars (which actually didn't crash that horribly) is not a point of discussion in this case, it's not a Bungie game. It can't stand as evidence that a prequel is doomed.

Going further away from that, Halo Wars illustrated only a slight portion of things that were already known; for the most part, it went off on its own tangent and told a completely different story. Reach appears to be a game about the battle of Reach itself, which would be the advent of several things that users have been clamoring for for a long, long while: more Spartans, a massive space battle before Humanity was fully crippled (after Reach they essentially became crippled, which is why the Battle of Earth and Second Battle of Earth went so poorly even though we were facing small enemy numbers at the beginning of both engagements), and missions involving several Spartan allies.

So Halo Wars is completely out of the picture and Halo: Reach seems to be what the fans have been clamoring for for a long, long while, no? Let's finish this:

The planet at the end has two different-colored stars. Hypothesis destroyed.

I rest my case.

No, it doesn't. Reach does not "fall" until the events of First Strike, which is quite notable by an entire arc involving even Master Chief, who has returned from destroying Alpha Halo, and embarks with his other Spartan comrades (and if I'm not mistaken, Dr. Halsey as well) to retrieve/investigate a Forerunner artifact's anomalies.

Halo: CE provides no information aside from the fact that they escape from it in the Pillar of Autumn, and Reach most certainly does not fall in that time. A large portion of it is glassed, but not enough to destroy its atmosphere or completely eradicate the surface of life, as is made clear by the novels, which, again, is not information provided by CE in the slightest.

Also in Halo 2 first cut scene we also see the Arbiter, talk about how they escape from reach.
So Halo:CE is the Start on how reach ended!

Again, showing that someone escaped from a planet does not provide significant information. You should really read "First Strike". It will give you a clearer perspective on what happened to Reach.

Only because the gameplay was so simple by RTS standards, plus there were only a few strategies that worked.

You're undercutting the sincere hate most us RTS players disliked it. I snapped my copy in half.

What's wrong with seeing how Reach fell? It's okay to read about something, but to actually witness it, takes more than words to describe.

Using imaginations is much better than seeing. It doesn't matter. You still can't make a game out of Fall of Reach. It would either be one of the most boring games or it would be a Tactical stealth based-game. Something that most the Halo Community would be unable to play.

Posted by: AK 47625714
Okay, what little of a case you had.

Yours had no case either. Go read the books and use some imagination this time.

Posted by: Samari Zach
What if.........the planets from the reach trailer and the end of halo 3 ARE Planet Reach, but halo: reach is still a prequal, and MC just happens to be floating towards that planet at the end of halo 3, when the battle of reach has already happened.
I haven't read the books, though, so I don't know what happens to the planet, because it could have exploded or something, making my idea look fairly stupid.

I forgot that glassing a planet changes the heat output and color of a nearby star. You MUST be right.

So you're saying that most of the Halo Community will be unable to play ODST? It seems that most of the Halo Community disagrees with you on that one. Also, not everyone agrees with you about imagination being better than seeing, one of them being me. I loved the novels, and like anyone else, I have my own view of how things happened visually, but I'm not the kind of person who needs my interpretation to be correct, either. I want to know how it actually plays out, and I want to play through it. I'm not alone on this, either. Prequel talk has been around this forum for a very long time, and this is a huge treat for more involved fans, and a huge wealth of knowledge for people who have never bothered to read the novels.
