If you don't like reading and thinking on a thread, leave now.

You are all aware that Bungie is adding firefight into Halo 3 ODST and that there is a firefight level named Crater[Night]. So as many people know, this hints that there will most likely be a day version of fire fight... This is basically been what I've seen discussed in many topics regarding anything having to do with firefight. But has anyone gone in depth further into such topics and actually thought about this?

As many of you are aware, firefight is most likely to contribute to a players achievements/ gamerscore and will have each map have its own individual achievements. So what I theorize is that Bungie wouldn't set up their game to have multiple achievements on the same map just because the difference is night and day, because in all honesty, that is just -blam-.

So here is what I'm pointing at.
Bungie would probably have their options set up so that the different varieties of the same map have everything count toward the same basic map, the original. Now plan out how they would set up the map search around this. What I believe will happen is that Bungie takes the firefight maps and sets it up like the Halo 3 Map menu, where all the varieties of the same map are categorized under the same basic map and are then listed below.

What I am asking is of the possibilities with that system. If Bungie has it set up so the enviromental factors and skybox are the only changes between day and night, then what other variants could be made all for the same map due to environment changes through such a system? What possibilites could be made due to the memory absence of forge, matchmaking, and the 100 custom content limit? Is it possible that Bungie, perhaps has many more variants of Crater? Maybe Security Zone? Or every other Firefight map?

Oh, and for anyone that disagrees with me, just vote that I belong in the asylum. I forgot the no answer and can't edit anyway...

Seems feasible, but what other scenic modifications could you really make?

Simply put, just about anything crosses my mind...
Keep in mind I'm not talking about anything that changes the actual layout of the map, but what I'm suggesting is that there may be changes for the weather and skins over the layout of the map that just change the environment.
What comes to mind is what some modders of halo 2 did to basically make the map more interesting.

What really is stuck in my head as of now is possibly a tundra version of Crater, the layout stays the same, but its night, snow is falling, and the skin of the map just is snow white in areas it wouldn't normally be in. Just that sort of stuff that attracts the gamer back to the same basic map without it being the same pain to the eyes.

Well weather effects are cool and all, but why is it snowing in Africa? Rain would be interesting depending on how well its done.
