You heard me right. Get rid of it. But not its purpose.

Split its two functions (long-range supression, and midrange accuracy) between two weapons; variants of weapons which have appeared in most of the Halo games... The Assault Rifle, and the Pistol For a scale of distance in Halo; Blood Gulch/Coagulation was about 500 meters long from canyon wall-to-canyon wall (you can measure distance with the sniper scope in Halo 1 and Halo 3).


MA5K Assault Rifle: The MA5K Assault Rifle would replace the MA5B from Halo, and the MA5C from Halo 3. It is a weapon depicted in the novels, and also in Halo: Custom Edition. It would be a weapon much more about accuracy compared to the AR in Halo 1/3, and it would also be a more versatile weapon, finally working at midrange (in the right hands, of course). This is the version in Halo: Custom Edition.

45 rounds/magazine
10 rounds/second ROF
30 bodyshots/10 headshots to kill
max. effective range: 60 meters (single shot), 35 meters (pulsed), 10 meters (automatic)
max. range: 250 meters (bullet disappears)
2x scope


M6D Pistol: The M6D Pistol is a scaled up version of the standard sidearms, modified especially to be used by Spartans (so was the M6C/SOCOM in Halo 3: ODST). So that the Pistol isn't reduced to some useless weapon (and so that a new Rifle doesn't need to be made up), it should be non-dual weidlable, and have a power boost. It would be an effective weapon in the rights hands, and it would be versatile like the AR. It would be comparable to the Pistol in Halo 3: ODST and Halo 1.

10 bodyshots/5 headshots to kill
max. effective range: 80 meters (single shot), 40 meters (automatic)
max. range: 120 meters (bullet disappears)

I dunno i like the battle rifle in halo 2, i think the halo 3 battle rifle feels weird, hard to control and too strong.

It shouldnt be the starting weapon, also the whole point in halo 2 of the BR was that the AR was split in two, to get the SMG & the BR.

So in Reach there can only really be 2 out of the 3 - SMG or BR or AR.

Or we get a halo 3 game where the smg is useless because you have an AR. SMG game start should come back, as starting with a BR or AR is crazy because then you dont need to pick up any weapons you spawn and your set.

The weapons need to be watered down again like halo 1, where each weapon excels in a certain region.

[BR & SMG Or AR]

Plasma pistol
Plasma Rifle
Energy Sword
Carbine
Beam Rifle

Instead of now wheres its like "holy Crap theres like 5 different guns that do the same job"

Everyone was going on about how good it was and so, it is slowly becoming less popular. Mainly MLG's fault, what with all the emphasis on it.

Perhaps hype wasn't the best word.

I actually like the BR for its powerful headshot capabilities. And, you forget, The BR was still an experimental weapon, not available to the front lines. Chances are it wont be in Reach.

Well your idea makes sense...
Eventhough I like the BR, it would make more sense replacing it with the MA5K AR and pistol
And I'd love to see the pistol return to it's former power because I hate the pistol in Halo 3..(I've made some lal kills with it tho :D)
So I think this is a great idea and something that is a possibility
The weapons stats look awesome so I would love to see these in Halo Reach instead of the BR,AR and the current pistol.

Lal read Contact Harvest...Johnson had a BR back then and Contact Harvest was... when? 5524-5525 so the BR was around WAAAAY before Reach

It was actually never confirmed to be the BR, just a Rifle that they hadn't seen yet.

I like everything the way it is, but i'd love to give an MA5K a try. Maybe have both to balance AR vs BR fights, but keep the AR at a closer range than the BR.

If they could add both, but balance them out, it would be incredible. People would stop calling the AR useless and others would stop calling the BR overpowered. If it wasn't balanced though, an MA5K could be very deadly in my opinion.

Well there were only Battle Rifle prototypes on Reach, anyway. Methinks that, if it goes like you and I think and we play from the Battle of Reach all the way to Unyielding Heirophant, you might get the opportunity to pick up one for perhaps a single level and that'd be that.

I think splitting it down the middle helps canon and helps gameplay. I'm game.

I definitely agree. Splitting the battle rifle into two weapons would finally bring the end to the "One weapon to rule them all" situation. I'm assuming these would be the default weapon spawns am i correct ? The only thing i disagree with is having the MA5K. Perhaps they could include one of the cutdown versions of the MA5B like in the novels. I'm pretty sure one of them had improved accuracy or something similar.

Are you telling me it takes 10 rounds out of the 45 to kill someone? That's less than a one second battle. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Are you telling me it takes 10 rounds out of the 45 to kill someone? That's less than a one second battle. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If they're all headshots, which is a tough thing to do up close (lower auto aim) and from afar (need to pulse the trigger to fire single-shot to maintain range). And if it's firing in automatic, it's as inaccurate as the MA5B, so you won't get all headshots, even up close.

I changed it from 15 (MA5B/C) to 10 rounds/second though, so you could get a kill in a second if you have the skill.

I think this is a fantastic idea.

The MA5K has been a popular weapon of the HCE mapping/modding community. If Bungie has any sense at all, they will model their implementation of the MA5K off of what other fans have done, specifically the awesome model made by CMT.

I found the MA5K to be a great starting weapon on HCE maps when I played with it; moderately accurate, with enough power to kill at close/medium range and plenty of ammo. Didn't have a scope, though.
